El Modelo Educativo Tamaulipas 2016-2022 propone impartir una educación para la paz, restituir el tejido social y ofrecer una educación con pertinencia social. Dicho documento plantea conocer la historia que nos une y da identidad y pertenencia a un territorio, apreciar la cultura y el arte (MET, 2016, p. 42). Además plantea fortalecer el orgullo tamaulipeco para contribuir a la restitución del tejido social fortaleciendo a los educandos, promover el conocimiento de su comunidad, la identidad, el sentido de pertenencia y el arraigo (MET, p. 74). Es por ello que, siguiendo estos lineamientos, El Colegio de Tamaulipas, ubicado en este espacio urbano y que ocupa uno de los edificios históricos de la ex hacienda de Tamatán, asume el compromiso y responsabilidad con la sociedad al impulsar mecanismos de vinculación con la comunidad y con ello promover el desarrollo cultural de esta zona. La ex hacienda de Tamatán forma parte de la memoria colectiva de los tamaulipecos, particularmente de los victorences. Lo anterior es así debido a que la historia de la hacienda implica reconocer que su organización productiva permitió el florecimiento económico de la región. Investigar a Tamatán como hacienda mostrará el origen y evolución de la propiedad en un recorrido por el pasado que nos ancla a la avanzada novohispana, pasando por el porfiriato, la revolución para después entrar en una fase de uso del inmueble para fines de corte educativo. La trascendencia de esta investigación radica en dos hechos importantes: el primero señala el vacío existente en el estudio de casos de las haciendas agrícolas porfirianas del centro del estado de Tamaulipas y el segundo se refiere a la importancia de la finca elegida. Nuestro propósito es responder a las siguientes cuestiones: ¿Dónde se ubica el origen de Tamatán? ¿Cómo evolucionó a través del siglo XIX? ¿Cuáles eran las características de sus tierras? ¿Cómo era administrada? ¿Cuáles fueron las dificultades que sufrió a raíz de la revolución? ¿En qué consistió el proceso por el que se transformó de hacienda en escuela de agricultura? La estructuración de esta obra se divide en dos partes. La primera trata de la historia de la hacienda de Tamatán, mientras que la segunda aborda la historia de la escuela y la comunidad. Los archivos consultados para la primera parte del trabajo fueron los siguientes: 1) Archivo General e Histórico del Estado de Tamaulipas; 2) Archivo Histórico del Congreso del Estado de Tamaulipas; 3) Archivo Manuel González de la Universidad Iberoamericana; y 4) Archivo Manuel González, hijo, de la Universidad Iberoamericana.
