Over the past decade, knowledge assets and intellectual capital have been attracting an increasing amount of attention, not only from academics and CEOs, but also from national policy makers. To date, most studies of intellectual capital have focused at the organizational level, with an emphasis on explaining the role of “intangible assets” as a differentiator between accounting value and market value as a possible source of corporate competitive advantage. More recently, pioneers in the field, including the authors of this book, have begun to apply these methodologies to a broader scope, with the objective of comparing the intellectual capital indices at the national or regional level. As a result, an increasing number of world organizations and researchers are commissioned to investigate this future-oriented crucial national issue. Yet, the linkage between the value of intangible assets and how to quantify or benchmark it is still tenuous, not to mention easily misunderstood by a layman for guiding better decision making. With the belief that numbers talk and statistics hide valuable information, this book serves to present the authors’ research findings, covering 14 years (1995-2008) of intellectual capital information, comprised of human capital, market capital, process capital, renewal capital, and financial capital for 40 countries. The last three chapters go beyond analysis of current intellectual capital factors, and present practical tools for launching initiatives at the national level. The book will serve as an essential resource for researchers, policy makers, and business leaders concerned with issues of economic growth and competitiveness, innovation, and business creation.

For organizations to maintain their competitive advantage, their people need to be performing to the best of their abilities. But in a world of increasing stress and pressure, rapid technological change and digital overload, supporting and developing employees has never been more difficult. Employee Experience is a practical guide to achieving this. To develop top-performing employees, HR professionals need to move beyond ad hoc engagement initiatives and instead to design and embed employee experience throughout an organization's processes and culture - from the moment an employee sees a job advert to the moment they leave the company. Employee Experience is full of tools, tips and advice to help HR professionals and business leaders motivate, support and develop their staff to achieve exceptional individual and organizational performance. It includes guidance on how to build experience capabilities in an HR team and on communicating, sustaining and evolving the employee experience, as well as on using networks, nudges and technology. Containing a foreword by Global Industry Analyst Josh Bersin and case studies from companies including Airbnb, Starbucks and Sky, the book shows how focusing on the employee experience improves performance, productivity and profits and how organizations of any size can achieve this success.

Organizing Identity written by Paul du Gay and has been published by SAGE this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-02-15 with Social Science categories.

"This book overturns the conventional thinking about organization and identity and puts in its place a wholly new theoretical synthesis. It is not just an extraordinarily incisive commentary on modern life but it is also a key to thinking about identity in new ways which will prove an indispensable guide as we move beyond social constructionism. Remarkable." - Nigel Thrift, Vice-Chancellor, The University of Warwick "I have to say that as usual I find very refreshing Paul du Gay′s courageous and unconventional approach, a clarity of vision that I find very appealing." - Professor Marilyn Strathern, University Of Cambridge Like many other popular academic terms, ‘identity’ has been asked to do so much work that it has often ended up doing none at all and, as a consequence, there has been a recent turn away from identity work. In this book, Paul du Gay moves identity theory in a new direction, offering a distinctive approach to studying how persons - human and non human - are put together or assembled: how their ‘identities’ are formed. He does through an engagement with a range of work in the social sciences, humanities and in organization studies which privileges the business of description over metaphysical speculation and epochalist assertion. At the heart of the book is an approach to the material-cultural making up of ‘persons’ that involves a shift away from general social and cultural accounts concerning the formation of ‘subjectivity’ and ‘identity’ towards an understanding of the specific forms of personhood that individuals acquire through their immersion in and subjection to particular normative and technical regimes of conduct. The book is written for postgraduate students and researchers interested in debates about identity, subjectivity and personhood in a range of disciplines – especially those in sociology, social anthropology, geography, and organization and management studies.

Churchill written by Sebastian Haffner and has been published by Plunkett Lake Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-08-10 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Written in the tradition of Stefan Zweig’s biographical studies, Haffner’s Churchill is a concise, effective, warts-and-all analysis of one of the giants of the twentieth century. Beginning with a brief history of the Churchill family, Haffner examines the future Prime Minister’s childhood; his early failures in school and in politics; his indomitable energy and drive; how he managed to become an inspirational figure to anti-Nazis all over the world; and how he managed to seize success from the jaws of defeat over and over again. Compact, elegant and incisive, this is the one book about Churchill that is a must-read. “One of the most brilliant things of any length written about Churchill.” — The Times Literary Supplement “Fast-moving and perceptive.” — The (London) Times “A wonderful portrait of Churchill.” — Die Zeit “A ravishing biography.” — Der Spiegel “[A] fascinating psychological study of Britain’s greatest war leader... a pleasure to put on your bookshelf” — Tribune “His Meaning of Hitler published in 1978 remains a masterpiece of historiography. His Churchill biography gives the first indication of his great talent for brief, wonderfully graphic insights.” — Süddeutsche Zeitung “Of all [Haffner’s] books, this is the one that stays in my memory.” — Marcel Reich-Ranicki “[Haffner] was an ‘admirer of great men’ and among all the biographies of Winston Churchill his brief sketch of the man who ‘risked Britain in order to defeat Hitler’ is a model of historically empathetic veneration.” — Joachim Fest “Astute, short, analytical, like all Haffner’s work. Cuts away anything that is not bare essential, what remains stays with you for a lifetime.” — J. AB Sennef, Quora “What distinguishes this brilliant biography is its partisanship. It does not list facts in order and evaluate them. Every sentence is witness to the fact that the biographer loves this man with all his failings.” — Wolfgang Franssen, Belletristik Couch “A jewel. Haffner lived through the decisive years in Britain and gives a convincing description the fragile atmosphere in which Churchill fought his battles.” — Tarzan von Aquin “[Haffner was] one of the great historians and journalists of the last century.” —Andrew Roberts

Vista Nieve is the story of two American families whose dreams led them to the lofty Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains in northern Colombia at the turn of the twentieth century. Professor Melbourne R. Carriker tells the story of his maternal grandparents, Orlando & Eva Flye, who after many failed attempts became successful coffee plantation owners. Carriker also recounts the significant contributions of his father -- ornithologist-entomologist-naturalist of tropical America - Melborne A. Carriker, Jr. -- to the collections of the Carnegie Museum & the Smithsonian Institution. Fondly remembered is his mother, Carmela Flye Carriker, whose tireless spirit benefited these collecting efforts as well as the establishment of their own coffee plantation, Vista Nieve. Vista Nieve is a heartwarming account of the adventures, mishaps & romances of courageous, real people who faced undeterminable odds to see their dreams to fruition. Readers will marvel at the often incredible, sometimes humorous adventures of a tropical bird scientist & his family. The characters will remain etched in the hearts & minds of readers & be remembered with great fondness, respect & admiration well beyond the last page. See www.bluemantle.net.
