Antonio Ferrer del R�o (Madrid, 1814-El Molar, 22 de agosto de 1872) fue un historiador, periodista y escritor espa�ol, perteneciente al Romanticismo. Fue disc�pulo de Alberto Lista y amigo de Manuel Jos� Quintana, vivi� de joven en Cuba y colabor� en la prensa de La Habana. Miembro de la Real Academia, dirigi� La Am�rica y fue redactor de El Laberinto, Revista Espa�ola de Ambos Mundos y El Heraldo. Us� a veces el pseud�nimo de El Madrile�o. Compuso dramas hist�ricos como La senda de espinas (1859) o Francisco Pizarro (1861), en torno a las circunstancias de la muerte de �ste. Tradujo la Historia universal (1847-1850) de C�sar Cant�. Escribi� varias obras hist�ricas, entre las que destaca su Historia del reinado de Carlos III (1856). Historia del reinado de Carlos III consiste en un meticuloso trabajo de documentaci�n que repasa la trayectoria pol�tica y personal del monarca ilustrado que recibi� el apelativo de rey alcalde. En este cuarto y �ltimo volumen encontramos una descripci�n anal�tica de la parte m�s personal del rey, as� como del legado pol�tico, social, cient�fico y art�stico del mejor exponente de monarqu�a ilustrada que ha tenido Espa�a.
