Newspaper came to Iran some how late; the first Newspaper published in Germany in 1615, "Frankfurter Journal" and 1st journal in France was "Gazette de France" that was published in 1631. The first newspaper in Iran was published in 1183/1804 in Bushir; "Mozafari", Bimonthly, run by Mirza Abdoul Hamid Matin ul-Saltaneh; The 2nd was "Badr", published in Tehran, in 1203/1824; weekly, run by H. [Hossein?] Sabok Peyam. The 3rd was "Tehran Mosavar", published in Tehran, in 1208/1829, weekly, run by A. Nemat. The 4th was published in Delhi, in 1213/1834, "Akhbar Irani", Daily. In 1225/1836, there were published 5 Persian newspapers in subcontinent: "Chabok", Weekly, Bombay; Jame Jamshid, Weekly, Bombay; "Sekindar", Weekly, Calcutta; "Sultan ul-Akhbar", Weekly, Calcutta; "Lodineh Akhbar", Weekly, Calcutta. In 1226/1837, Jam Jahn Nama, Weekly, was published in Calcutta. Therefore early newspapers in Farsi/Persian, were published in remote area from the capital of the country due to the struggle for power after the fall of Zandieh dynasty, though the early published newspapers in Iran, in substance, were not so important since they were not representing the policy of the state and the government as they were running by purely unofficial and totally private ventures. The first official newspaper that was established in order to reflect the official policy of the government of Iran was "Rouznameh Vaghayeh Etefaghieh", that published in 1230/1851, by the order of Mirza Taqi Khan Amirkabir, and was run by Mirza Jabbar Tazker-i chi. In the same year, In Urumieh the first non-Persian newspaper, "Zararit Bahra /Shoa-i Roshanaei", in Kaldani language, was published. In this Book, we have studied 1160newspapers and magazines that were published from 1183/1804 up to Shahrivar of 1320/ September 1941.

This first full-length study of the history of Iranian anthropology charts the formation and development of anthropology in Iran in the twentieth century. The text examines how and why anthropology and culture became part of wider socio-political discourses in Iran, and how they were appropriated, and rejected, by the pre- and post-revolutionary regimes. The author highlights the three main phases of Iranian anthropology, corresponding broadly to three periods in the social and political development of Iran: *the period of nationalism: lasting approximately from the constitutional revolution (1906-11) and the end of the Qajar dynasty until the end of Reza Shah’s reign (1941) *the period of Nativism: from the 1950s until the Islamic revolution (1979) *the post-revolutionary period. In addition, the book places Iranian anthropology in an international context by demonstrating how Western anthropological concepts, theories and methodologies affected epistemological and political discourses on Iranian anthropology.

Why did Yugoslavia fall apart? Was its violent demise inevitable? Did its population simply fall victim to the lure of nationalism? How did this multinational state survive for so long, and where do we situate the short life of Yugoslavia in the long history of Europe in the twentieth century? A History of Yugoslavia provides a concise, accessible, comprehensive synthesis of the political, cultural, social, and economic life of Yugoslavia—from its nineteenth-century South Slavic origins to the bloody demise of the multinational state of Yugoslavia in the 1990s. Calic takes a fresh and innovative look at the colorful, multifaceted, and complex history of Yugoslavia, emphasizing major social, economic, and intellectual changes from the turn of the twentieth century and the transition to modern industrialized mass society. She traces the origins of ethnic, religious, and cultural divisions, applying the latest social science approaches, and drawing on the breadth of recent state-of-the-art literature, to present a balanced interpretation of events that takes into account the differing perceptions and interests of the actors involved. Uniquely, Calic frames the history of Yugoslavia for readers as an essentially open-ended process, undertaken from a variety of different regional perspectives with varied composite agenda. She shuns traditional, deterministic explanations that notorious Balkan hatreds or any other kind of exceptionalism are to blame for Yugoslavia’s demise, and along the way she highlights the agency of twentieth-century modern mass society in the politicization of differences. While analyzing nuanced political and social-economic processes, Calic describes the experiences and emotions of ordinary people in a vivid way. As a result, her groundbreaking work provides scholars and learned readers alike with an accessible, trenchant, and authoritative introduction to Yugoslavia's complex history.

Schultz, Parthenon Marbles and many more) and analyses legal issues (bona fide, relevant UNESCO and UNIDROIT Conventions, Supreme Court Decisions, procedure for requests etc.). This early work on Persian history is both expensive and hard to find in its first edition. It contains a personal narrative of the late Treasurer General of Persia and his firsthand account of America’s involvement in the shaping of modern day Iran. This is a fascinating work and thoroughly recommended for anyone interested in Iranian history. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.
