The science of energy is at the root of many of the biggest challenges facing the future of our planet. Essential Energy will give you all the information you need to make sense of this vital subject. This revised and updated edition uses everyday examples and the latest facts and figures to show how we use different energy resources, and explains how energy transfers from one use to another. The series also looks at the environmental impact of different energy resources. Energy Transfer will give you the answers to these and many other questions: What is kinetic energy? How does the Sun generate heat and light energy? How is energy passed from one living thing to another? Book jacket.

FRET – Förster Resonance Energy Transfer Meeting the need for an up-to-date and detailed primer on all aspects of the topic, this ready reference reflects the incredible expansion in the application of FRET and its derivative techniques over the past decade, especially in the biological sciences. This wide diversity is equally mirrored in the range of expert contributors. The book itself is clearly subdivided into four major sections. The first provides some background, theory, and key concepts, while the second section focuses on some common FRET techniques and applications, such as in vitro sensing and diagnostics, the determination of protein, peptide and other biological structures, as well as cellular biosensing with genetically encoded fluorescent indicators. The third section looks at recent developments, beginning with the use of fluorescent proteins, followed by a review of FRET usage with semiconductor quantum dots, along with an overview of multistep FRET. The text concludes with a detailed and greatly updated series of supporting tables on FRET pairs and Förster distances, together with some outlook and perspectives on FRET. Written for both the FRET novice and for the seasoned user, this is a must-have resource for office and laboratory shelves.

Bakalian and has been published by The VLS Research Foundation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-01-01 with Science categories.

A new theoretical framework is presented to explain the evolution of the universe based on the time-varying properties of the fundamental constants. A static universe with time-varying constants can explain the origin of the cosmic microwave background radiation, CMB anisotropies, the CMB cold spot, the observed redshift-distance modulus data, the origin and composition of dark matter in the universe, galaxy cluster mass estimates, Milky Way galaxy luminosity estimates, population II stellar properties, vacuum-photon interactions, energy cycling between matter, radiation and vacuum field components, time-varying Higgs mechanism and particle mass, and the observed matter-antimatter dichotomy. This is a complete theoretical framework that explains the observable universe and resolves many of the issues with modern-day cosmology.

Nonlinear Targeted Energy Transfer In Mechanical And Structural Systems written by Alexander F. Vakakis and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-12-24 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This monograph evolved over a period of nine years from a series of papers and presentations addressing the subject of passive vibration control of mechanical s- tems subjected to broadband, transient inputs. The unifying theme is Targeted - ergy Transfer – TET, which represents a new and unique approach to the passive control problem, in which a strongly nonlinear, fully passive, local attachment, the Nonlinear Energy Sink – NES, is employed to drastically alter the dynamics of the primary system to which it is attached. The intrinsic capacity of the properly - signed NES to promote rapid localization of externally applied (narrowband) - bration or (broadband) shock energy to itself, where it can be captured and dis- pated, provides a powerful strategy for vibration control and the opens the pos- bility for a wide range of applications of TET, such as, vibration and shock i- lation, passive energy harvesting, aeroelastic instability (?utter) suppression, se- mic mitigation, vortex shedding control, enhanced reliability designs (for ex- ple in power grids) and others. The monograph is intended to provide a thorough explanation of the analytical, computational and experimental methods needed to formulate and study TET in mechanical and structural systems. Several prac- cal engineering applications are examined in detail, and experimental veri?cation and validation of the theoretical predictions are provided as well. The authors also suggest a number of possible future applications where application of TET seems promising. The authors are indebted to a number of sponsoring agencies.

Radiative Energy Transfer presents the proceedings of the symposium on interdisciplinary aspects of radiative energy transfer held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 24-26, 1966. The book includes topics on the two main classical directions of radiative transfer: diagnostic techniques and energy exchanges. The text also covers topics on molecular band models, inversion techniques, scattering problems, and shock-wave structure. Topics on high-speed shocks, stellar atmospheres, and meteorology are also encompassed.
