"Hodgepodge: the Story of my Life" is a memoir of a teacher who retired and began a second career with PBS as an educational director, a consultant and a writer for a math-based cartoon show. Little snippets of the author's life detail stories of what happened along the way, much of which was unexpected. While each life-vignette is heavily doused with humor, the essence of each short story deals with relationships as the author learns to laugh through his circumstances and forms a personal philosophy of life. This collection of experiences details how the path of life is filled with road blocks and shadows that might be avoided, but which force a change of direction on the planned path to reaching life-goals. The author employs a vast array of strategies for solving problems and for recovery from each instance in which he "painted himself into a corner", but then resumes his strenuous leap forward in living life.Along the way he encounters 'life-changers', like the elementary-school kid who changes the author's career path. While you are in the midst of daily life, it is important to look about you and see the value added to your life from ordinary people who impact you in extraordinary ways. Everyone meets 'life changers' who influence one's path in significant ways."Hodgepodge" also investigates common sayings and makes you think about them from an uncommon point of view. There are crazy poems and traditional songs that are tantalizing and funny. These will bring chuckles, some hysterics and lasting smiles."Hodgepodge: the Story of my Life" transmits the message that it is important to be a dreamer, a catalyst for moving each person forward, a thinker and reflector who communicates ideas clearly, a coach and cheerleader who appreciates the contributions of each person, and who enjoys whole-hearted laughter."Hodgepodge" might help you to ponder your life as you view your own life-story!

Hodgepodge is a collection of thoughts and stories; seemingly unconnected at first sight, they all come back to one thing that is at the very foundation of our day-to-day lives: love. Sometimes unnoticed, oftentimes ignored, occasionally overrated. Love comes in different forms and shapes: parents, children, friends, lovers. Thrown apart in space and time, stories in this book don’t follow a straight timeline, creating a kaleidoscope of events that resembles the flow of life itself: colorful, dynamic, oftentimes misunderstood and confusing, but nonetheless beautiful at the end. “Hodgepodge” is inspired by people and challenges that occur within relationships; it follows the journey of a girl who struggles with her sexuality, alcohol and drug addiction, and desperate need for approval from men.

Death written by Herbert Fingarette and has been published by Open Court this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-12-14 with Social Science categories.

No one who reads this book will ever again think of his or her own death in the same way. The first part of the book consists of a thought-provoking essay, in which Fingarette examines the metaphors which mislead us: death as parting, death as sleep, immortality as the denial of death, and selflessness as a kind of consolation. He also thinks through some of the more illuminating metaphors: death as the end of the world for me, death as the conclusion of a story, life as ceremony, and life as a tourist visit to earth. The author offers no facile consolation, but he identifies the true root of fear of death, and explains how the meaning of death can be reconceived. The second part comprises writings on death by other philosophers including classic selections from the Bhagavad Gita, Arthur Schopenhauer, Sigmund Freud, Chuang Tzu, David Hume, Albert Camus, Blaise Pascal, Leo Tolstoy, Eugene Ionesco, Marcus Aurelius, Michel de Montaigne, and Bertrand Russell. "An excellent treatment that invites the reader in to share a warm meal of healthy contemplation." —Brian Bruya Philosophy Editor, amazon.com "This book's questions are at one and the same time philosophical and personal. . . . A diversity of philosophical insights are harvested during the reflective, critical work which makes up Fingarette's extended essay. . . the style is direct, what it expresses is expressed clearly and with simplicity, and what comes through it is the author's seriousness and humility." —Ilham Dilman University of Wales, Swansea

Bi Directionality In The Cognitive Sciences written by Marcus Callies and has been published by John Benjamins Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Psychology categories.

Cognitive science is the interdisciplinary study of the human mind. As far as the exact relationship between the cognitive sciences and other fields is concerned, however, it appears that interdisciplinary exchange often remains unrealized, possibly because of the uni-directional application of theories, concepts, and methods, which impedes the productive transfer of knowledge in both directions. In the course of the cognitive turn in the humanities and social sciences, many disciplines have selectively borrowed ideas from core cognitive sciences like psychology and artificial intelligence. The day-to-day practice of interdisciplinarity thus thrives on one-directional borrowings. Focusing on cognitive approaches in linguistics and literary studies, this volume explores "bi-directionality," a genuine transdisciplinary interchange in which both disciplines are borrowing and lending. The contributions take different perspectives on bi-directionality: some extend uni-directional borrowing practices and point to avenues and crossroads, while others critically discuss obstacles, challenges, and limitations to bi-directional transfer."
