Pope John Paul II's apostolic letter, Ordinatio Sacerdotalis, confirmed that conferring Holy Orders on men only is a matter pertaining to divine revelation that has consistently been taught by the universal and ordinary Magisterium of the Church, and hence is to be definitively held by all the faithful. Thus, the Church's practice is not a concession to the customs of an age, but is founded upon a theology of the sexes, which is based on the relationship of man and woman originating in creation itself. This relationship is sanctified to the utmost in the Sacrament of Matrimony, as the concrete symbol of God's love for mankind. God's own self-communication is inscribed in this marital consecration when Christ, being the representative of the Father, presents himself as the Bridegroom of the Church, his Bride. Furthermore, this spousal relationship between Christ and the Church is reflected in the Sacrament of Holy Orders and the male recipient's relation to the Church, which stands in relation to him as a feminine reality. This book thoughtfully explores the Church's understanding of the ministerial priesthood and the diaconate. Archbishop Gerhard Ludwig Muller, formerly the Bishop of Regensburg, is now Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. He has written and edited much on this topic as a member of the International Theological Commission. His writings on this subject have been combined in this present volume into a systematic presentation, expanded and updated. "Muller offers us an irrefutable case, based on theological sources, for the Church's teaching and practice since the time of the Apostles of conferring the sacrament of Holy Orders on baptized males only." -Fr. Kenneth Baker, S.J., Editor, Homiletic & Pastoral Review

She looked at him and smiled sadly. You've lived too long among the dead, Quirke, she said. He nodded. Yes, I suppose I have. She was not the first one to have told him that, and she would not be the last. 1950s Dublin. When a body is found in the canal, pathologist Quirke and his detective friend Inspector Hackett must find the truth behind this brutal murder. But in a world where the police are not trusted and secrets often remain buried there is perhaps little hope of bringing the perpetrator to justice. As spring storms descend on Dublin, Quirke and Hackett's investigation will lead them into the dark heart of the organisation that really runs this troubled city: the church. Meanwhile Quirke's daughter Phoebe realises she is being followed; and when Quirke's terrible childhood in a priest-run orphanage returns to haunt him, he will face his greatest trial yet...

When the body of a theology student is found on a desolate stretch of coast in East Anglia, his wealthy father demands that Scotland Yard should re-examine the verdict of accidental death. Commander Adam Dalgliesh agrees to pay a visit to the young man's theological college, St Anselm's, a place he knew as a boy, expecting no more than a nostalgic return to old haunts and a straightforward examination of the evidence. Instead he finds himself embroiled in intrigue, secrets and mystery as the college is torn apart by a sacrilegious and horrifying murder . . . Award-winning P.D. James (author of Death Comes to Pemberley and Children of Men) masterfully explores an isolated and beleaguered community coping with the evil and disruption of murder. In 2003, this novel was adapted for BBC television and starred Martin Shaw, Hugh Fraser and Robert Hardy. Set on the wild coast of East Anglia, this number one bestseller is the fourteenth Adam Dalgliesh novel and a thrilling work of crime fiction possessing all of the qualities which distinguish P. D. James as a novelist.

Holy Orders And Completeness Of The Church written by H. J. M. Turner and has been published by Melrose Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Church categories.

In Holy Orders and Completeness of The Church the author seeks to describe the pattern of Holy Orders. He also uses sound ecclesiology to ask how bishops, priests and deacons ought to be related to one another and to the order of 'unordained' Christians. Sources from diverse backgrounds are used throughout, often accompanied by translations from their original languages. In Holy Orders and Completeness of The Church the author does not examine in detail texts from the New Testament. Instead he concentrates on texts written roughly between the end of the first century and the end of the fourth - the formative period of development for early Christianity. In this excellently researched work, the author's expert opinion is presented in a well-constructed and extremely clear manner, making the text accessible to both academics of theology and those with less knowledge in the subject. The author closes the book by summing up his arguments and providing some views on the way ahead for the Church. He also presents his views on areas beyond the Local Church, with particular emphasis on Rome and the papacy.Fully indexed and with a comprehensive Select Bibliography, this book will prove to be of great value to the interested reader and researcher alike.
