The Strategic Planning and Deployment Excellence System (SPADES) provides a path to long-term success in the environment of rapidly changing technology and business systems. It combines the best of Hoshin Kanri, Quality Function Deployment (QFD), and other proven management and leadership tools and techniques. This book presents a set of tools and techniques for developing and deploying a long-term plan for achieving sustained success. These concepts ensure graphically tracing the strategic planning process from the foundation of organizational principles to the enterprise vision and to the organization’s long-term goals. The Scientific Method is the foundation upon which the tools and techniques of SPADES are applied. The Scientific Method begins with an observation of a phenomenon which leads to development of a hypothesis to explain the phenomenon. The hypothesis is then tested and, based on the analysis of the results, then accepted or adjusted as necessary. The testing may then be repeated to verify conclusions. The Deming-Shewhart Cycle of plan-do-check-act (PDCA) is the application of the Scientific Method for control and continual improvement of processes and products. SPADES is the integrated evolution of the PDCA Cycle and QFD to answer the challenges of how to stay competitive, year after year, in a dynamic environment of rapidly changing customer requirements and technology.

As changing customer demands and shifting world markets continue to put a strain on businesses in all sectors, your business needs every advantage to stay competitive. Many people may think of Lean processes as suitable only for the manufacturing floor, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Safety Performance in a Lean Environment: A Guide to Building Safety into a Process demonstrates how Lean tools can eliminate waste in your safety program, making it an important piece not only in keeping your organization safe but also in keeping it globally competitive. Written by safety pro Paul F. English, this book explores tools such as Lean manufacturing, DMAIC processes, and Kepner-Trego problem solving and how to use them to increase efficiency and eliminate waste in safety programs. He goes on to discuss value-based management, a technique identified as a leading business model for any organization wanting to catch "The Toyota Way." These processes help you build, incorporate, and sustain a safety program and understand how to get and maintain a foothold for the safety program in times of change. Here’s what you get: Real safety solutions for a Lean environment Methods for setting up standard work for EHS professionals How-tos for JSA and pre-task analysis to help develop standardized work Tips and tricks that everyone can use to jump start a stalled safety program No book currently on the market discusses Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma processes and links them to the occupational safety or environmental science. Yet these are the areas where the need for Lean processes is becoming acute. English demonstrates how to anticipate paradigm shifts in management models and how environmental health and safety fits into the model. He defines what adds value to the safety and manufacturing process as well as to the customer. These changes may include a change in daily, weekly or monthly metrics that can help or harm a safety program. Defining what adds value to the safety and manufacturing process and the customer helps you understand how to build safety into a process, creating a strong safety program.

Construction Process Improvement written by Brian Atkin and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-04-15 with Technology & Engineering categories.
The construction process has come under intense scrutiny in recent times and this is set to continue as building owners and users demand better value for money from a more sustainable built environment. The construction sector’s actors are responding to the challenges implicit in this drive for greater competitiveness and social responsibility. New forms of procurement, innovation programmes, knowledge management, CAD-supported processes, predictive and diagnostic tools, and many more initiatives are helping to transform the sector. Construction Process Improvement showcases 21 examples of how directed efforts are being taken to raise productivity and quality, reduce waste and costs, and provide more certain and durable products for the sector’s customers. Each example is the subject of a closely coupled collaborative project in which answers are being sought on matters of strategic importance to companies. The chapters that describe and discuss these projects balance state-of-the-art reviews with details of the work being undertaken and, in many cases, the results that are being implemented within the companies. Construction Process Improvement deals with issues that matter to best practice companies and researchers in industry and universities. It covers, amongst other topics, modularisation for manufactured housing, life cycle methods in housing, commercial buildings and services installations, tools and techniques for performance prediction and diagnostics, coordination of design and production processes, novel use of traditional materials, new forms of procurement and the role of innovation, public private partnerships, partnering structures, learning organisations, management of major refurbishment, management information systems, TQM and continuous improvement, CAAD methodology, tools and 4-D CAD, and facilities management. This book analyses the way forward for improving the construction process, in particular the links between research and development and industrial competitiveness. The implementation of new methods and thinking in companies is examined and important advice for senior managers and researchers is offered.
