This is the first volume concerned with the phonological typology of syllable and word languages, based on the model of a complex, multi-layered and hierarchically structured phonological system. The main typological claim is that the phonetic and phonological make-up of a language depends on the relevance of the prosodic categories. In previous research, the syllable and the phonological word have already proved to be typologically important. The contributions in this volume discuss theoretical questions and address issues such as the variable structure of the phonological word, the interplay between phonetics and phonology as well as the effect of a language’s phonological make-up on its morphology or lexicon. The volume provides detailed synchronic and diachronic analyses of (Non-)Indo-European languages which will serve as a basis for further typological research.

Recent research has shown that proper names morphosyntactically differ from common nouns in many ways. However, little is known about the morphological and syntactic/distributional differences between proper names and common nouns in less known (Non)-Indo-European languages. This volume brings together contributions which explore morphosyntactic phenomena such as case marking, gender assignment rules, definiteness marking, and possessive constructions from a synchronic, diachronic, and typological perspective. The languages surveyed include Austronesian languages, Basque, English, German, Hebrew, and Romance languages. The volume contributes to a better understanding not only of the contrasts between proper names and common nouns, but also of formal contrasts between different proper name classes such as personal names, place names, and others.

El llibre fon en un sol volum dos lliuraments parcials publicats a «ATCA», 28 (2009), 455-612, i «ATCA», 29 (2010), 9-880. Els resultats d’aquells dos lliuraments han estat revisats. Si el 2010 es tenia notícia fidedigna de 217 manuscrits de l’obra d’Eiximenis (13?- 1409), el volum en presenta ara 219. Un segon volum d’índexs completarà i farà manejable el catàleg. Publicat cent anys després del catàleg de Massó i Torrents, el volum posa a disposició de l’estudiós d’Eiximenis una panoràmica del tots els manuscrits de les seves obres originals en català i en llatí, de dues refoses d’obres originals, de les traduccions d’alguna de les seves obres catalanes (Llibre dels àngels, Llibre de les dones, Vida de Jesucrist) al llatí, al francès, al castellà, àdhuc la d’una seva obra llatina (Psalterium laudatorium) al català, i les obres atribuïdes. També ha estat aplegada la bibliografia sobre els textos manuscrits d’Eiximenis que els autors han conegut i que han considerat pertinent per a l’estudi crític de la transmissió del text i dels continguts de l’obra d’aquest prolífic i original escriptor medieval català.

Arnau de Vilanova, contemporani de Ramon Llull, va escriure el Regiment de sanitat per al rei dAragó, en llatí, entre els anys 1305 i 1308. La reina Blanca, esposa de Jaume II, va demanar al cirurgià major del rei, Berenguer Sarriera, que el traduís al català en un moment en què la cort reial era un important centre promotor de traduccions de textos mèdics a la llengua vernacla. Linterès daquesta obra rau en el fet que és una peça fonamental en el gènere dels regimina sanitatis uns manuals higienicopràctics destinats al manteniment de la salut individual o col·lectiva, un clàssic duna gran vigència pels consells que shi donen per portar una vida sana (dieta, exercici, hores de son, gestió de les emocions, etc.). A cura dAntònia Carré, aquesta edició revisada de la traducció de Sarriera també inclou les altres traduccions catalanes conservades dArnau de Vilanova, totes dues anònimes: la versió abreujada del Regiment de sanitat, que, com demostra leditora, prové dun original llatí, i la traducció dels Aforismes de la memòria, estudiada per primera vegada des duna perspectiva mèdica.
