‘I tore through the pages. A book I’ll read over and over again’ CANDICE CARTY-WILLIAMS, author of Queenie ____________________________________________ We've all had our share of dodgy landlords, mould and awkward house shares. But journalist Kieran Yates has had more than most: by the age of twenty-five she'd lived in twenty different houses across the country, from council estates in London to car showrooms in rural Wales. In prose that sparkles with humour and warmth, Yates charts the heartbreaks and joys of a life spent navigating the chaos of the housing system. Drawing on interviews with marginalised tenants across the country and the stories behind our interiors, she explores the unexpected ways we can fight back – finding beauty in the wreckage of a broken system, friendships in cramped housing conditions, and home even in the most fragile circumstances. All the Houses I’ve Ever Lived In is at once a rallying cry for change, a gorgeous coming-of-age story and a love letter to home in all its forms. ____________________________________________ ‘Illuminating, thoughtfully written, damning’ OBSERVER ‘I read this in two sittings . . . so incisive it's hard to put down’ PANDORA SYKES ‘A beautiful exposition of home and what it means. Stunning’ BOLU BABALOLA, author of Honey & Spice ‘So relatable . . . injects a glorious dose of love and joy and hope' BIG ISSUE ‘Yates manages the unthinkable: she makes the housing crisis funny’ i

In order to tackle the problem of the shortage of affordable housing, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) has been set a Public Service Agreement (PSA) target to achieve a better balance between housing availability and demand in all English regions whilst ensuring sustainable development which recognises environmental concerns. This joint study by the Audit Commission and National Audit Office focuses on one strand of the PSA target, relating to improving the availability of affordable housing in high demand areas. The report also identifies ten areas where efficiencies are likely to be achieved in the social housing funding system, and it makes a number of recommendations for national, regional and local bodies to improve both efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery chain, highlighting the need to increase the speed of delivery and to reduce the unit cost of housing.

This edited volume is the sixth publication of the series "Rural areas: Issues of local and regional development". It aims at intensifying scholarly exchange on topical questions of social, political, economic and landscape-related transformations of rural areas in Germany and Europe. Europe is a meaningful frame and research topic for rural geography. This edited volume assembles 14 contributions from various countries that shed light on the variety, as well as the differences and commonalities of rural regions in Europe. The volume aims at initiating general reflections about common development mechanisms and structures in the European context in contrast with specific national conditions and path dependencies. By assembling both regional and country case studies as well as cross-national comparisons, the anthology provides a sound basis for future European research in rural geography. It pleads for more cross-national and comparative approaches.

Whose Land Is Our Land written by Peter Hetherington and has been published by Policy Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-08-26 with Architecture categories.

In recent decades, rising land prices and ever-increasing demand for housing have made it incredibly difficult for farms to sustain themselves in Britain--with dangerous consequences for food supplies. Government attention to the issue has been limited at best, which has led to speculation and the loss of more and more farmland. With Whose Land Is Our Land? Peter Hetherington mounts a powerful argument for a more active, forward-thinking policy, one that acknowledges the importance of farming, rural society, and food security and takes stronger action to curb speculation and rampant overbuilding.
