Die evangelische Predigt rekurriert im Zuge ihrer bibeltextlichen Orientierung auf Inhalte, die wiederum selbst innerhalb verschiedener Kontexte und der Tradition zu lesen sind. Sich diesen Inhalten wissenschaftlich-theologisch und exegetisch fundiert allsonntäglich auf der Kanzel zu nähern, stellt eine zentrale Herausforderung des Predigtamtes dar. Dies gilt insbesondere für traditionsreiche Predigttexte, wie die Perikopen um Gal 2,16 und Röm 3,28. Die Autorin zeigt in einer breit angelegten Predigtanalyse Fallstricke und Potenziale des Zusammenspiels von Text, Tradition und Predigt auf und eröffnet Wege, wie diesen Herausforderungen begegnet werden kann. Ausgehend von einem ausführlichen exegetischen Kommentar, bildet der Gewinn exegetischer Sondierung, Aufklärung und Vertiefung im Kontext homiletischer Reflexion den Fluchtpunkt der Untersuchung. Die Arbeit bietet ferner eine Sensibilisierung und Ergänzung für die gegenwärtige Predigt über die Rechtfertigung und ist damit an der Schnittstelle zweier zentraler protestantischer Propria zu verorten: der Lehre von der Rechtfertigung und der biblisch fundierten Predigt. [Homiletics and Exegesis. Concepts of Justification in Contemporary Protestant Sermons] The Protestant sermon refers to biblical contents which can only be understood within their context and tradition. Ministry faces a major challenge in interpreting these contents weekly in a theologically and exegetically responsible way. This challenge applies particularly to biblical texts with a prominent position in Protestant tradition, such as the pericopes around Gal 2:16 and Rom 3:28. The author conducts a thorough analysis of 235 sermons, elaborating the pitfalls and benefits resulting from the interplay of text, tradition and sermon, and offers potential solutions to these challenges. Starting with an extensive exegetical commentary, this work explores and elucidates the biblical texts on justification from different exegetical and homiletical perspectives. Thus, it can be located between two crucial characteristics of Protestant religiosity: the doctrine of justification and the biblically-oriented sermon.

Die homiletische Landschaft hat in den zurückliegenden 15 Jahren einen tiefgreifenden Wandel erlebt: ein verstärktes Interesse an der Predigtsprache sowie der liturgischen Präsenz beim Predigen und an entsprechenden Angeboten zur Weiterbildung, neue Formate wie Preacherslams und vieles mehr. Die Entstehung einer Predigt wurde zunehmend mit der Entstehung eines Kunstwerks verglichen - Predigt im Atelier. Predigt im Atelier heißt Kreativität, Liebe zum Sprachdetail und intensiver kollegialer Austausch. Die Relevanz exegetischer Annäherungen an den Text wird im Zuge dieser neueren Entwicklungen keinesfalls abgelehnt, doch die methodische Einbindung dieses Themenfeldes nimmt bislang wenig Raum ein. Somit schreibt sich - unbewusst - die Trennung exegetischer und praktisch-theologischer bzw. praktisch-pragmatischer Diskurse fort. Exegetisches Vorgehen gilt häufig als unpraktikabel und realitätsfern für das Praxisfeld Gemeinde. Selbst in der homiletischen Diskussion und Ausbildung rangiert Exegese unter den "Vorarbeiten" bzw. hat lediglich eine Filterfunktion. Das Praxisbuch schlägt Brücken zwischen der derzeitigen homiletischen Weiterbildungspraxis und Exegese. Die Autorinnen sind überzeugt, dass exegetische Details und Aspekte der einzelnen klassischen Methoden nicht nur als Filter und Weichenstellungen innerhalb der Predigtvorbereitung dienen, sondern selbst Anregungen und wesentliche Pfeiler zur Predigtgestaltung liefern. Der Band wiederholt zunächst praxisbezogen die Methodenschritte alt- und neutestamentlicher Exegese auf dem aktuellen Debattenstand und erläutert dann die entsprechenden Entwicklungsmöglichkeiten für die Praxis in Verbindung mit gelungenen Predigtsequenzen Das Buch bietet konkrete Arbeitsanregungen und Schreibimpulse, wie sie teilweise bereits aus der homiletischen Weiterbildungsarbeit bekannt sind. Dadurch werden wechselseitige Wahrnehmungsperspektiven für Exegese und Homiletik ermöglicht. Beispiele und Anregungen werden stets an Texten der aktuellen Perikopenordnung erarbeitet und sind unmittelbar anwendbar. Die einzelnen Kapitel können punktuell rezipiert und unabhängig voneinander gelesen werden, um die Praxisfreundlichkeit zu erhöhen. Vorgeschaltet sind hermeneutische Grundsatzüberlegungen zum Verhältnis von Exegese, Homiletik und Kunst, sowie ein grundlegender Methodenkatalog zur Gestaltung von (exegetisch gewonnenen) Predigtideen. Das Praxisbuch macht Mut und regt an, die eigene Praxis weiterzuentwickeln.

This exploration of Genesis 38 in three interpretive writings shows how new meanings emerge through encounters between the biblical text and later Jewish communities. A literary reading within the canon suggests that the story of Judah and Tamar points to the morally ambiguous origins of David's lineage. Ancient Jewish exegesis, however, challenges this understanding. The Testament of Judah interprets Genesis 38 as the story of a warrior king's tragic downfall. Targum Neofiti develops it to illustrate the concept "sanctification of the (divine) Name". and Genesis Rabbah portrays it as a series of providential events issuing in the royal and messianic lineage. Esther Marie Menn pioneers a fresh approach to the study of biblical interpretation by analyzing the relation between interpretative genre, altered plot structure, and cultural values.
