Provence, May 1889. The hospital of Saint-Paul-de Mausole is home to the mentally ill. An old monastery, it sits at the foot of Les Alpilles mountains amongst wheat fields, herbs and olive groves. For years, the fragile have come here and lived quietly, found rest behind the shutters and high, sun-baked walls. Tales of the new arrival - his savagery, his paintings, his copper-red hair - are quick to find the warden's wife. From her small white cottage, Jeanne Trabuc watches him - how he sets his easel amongst the trees, the irises and the fields of wheat, and paints in the heat of the day. Jeanne knows the rules; she knows not to approach the patients at Saint-Paul. But this man - paint-smelling, dirty, troubled and intense - is, she thinks, worth talking to. So ignoring her husband's wishes, the dangers and despite the word mad, Jeanne climbs over the hospital wall. She will find that the painter will change all their lives. Let Me Tell You About A Man I Knew is a beautiful novel about the repercussions of longing, of loneliness and of passion for life. But it's also about love - and how it alters over time.

Barbara Jordan spoke for many Texas women when she told a reporter, "I get from the soil and spirit of Texas the feeling that I, as an individual, can accomplish whatever I want to, and that there are no limits, that you can just keep going, just keep soaring. I like that spirit." Indeed, the sense of limitless possibilities has inspired countless Texas women—sometimes in the face of daunting obstacles—to build lives rich in work, family, friends, faith, and community involvement. In this collection of interviews conducted by PJ Pierce, twenty-five Texas women ranging in age from 53 to 93 share the wisdom they've acquired through living unconventional lives. Responding to the question "What have you found that really matters about life?" they offer keen insights into motherhood, career challenges, being a minority, marriage and widowhood, anger, assertiveness, managing change, persevering, power, speaking out, fashioning success from failure, writing your own job description, loving a younger man, and recognizing opportunities disguised as disaster—to name only a few of their topics. In her introduction, Pierce describes how she came to write the book and how she chose her subjects to represent a cross-section of career paths and ethnic groups and all geographic areas of Texas. A topical index makes it easy to compare several women's views on a given subject.

Let Me Tell You written by Shirley Jackson and has been published by Penguin UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-07-30 with Fiction categories.

From the peerless author of 'The Lottery' and 'We Have Always Lived in the Castle', this is a spectacular new volume of unpublished and uncollected stories, essays, lectures, letters and drawings. Let Me Tell You brings together the deliciously eerie short stories Jackson is best known for with frank and inspiring lectures on writing; comic essays she wrote about her large, rowdy family; and revelatory personal letters and drawings. Jackson's landscape here is most frequently domestic - dinner parties, children's games and neighbourly gossip - but one that is continually threatened and subverted in her unsettling, inimitable prose. This collection is the first opportunity to see Shirley Jackson's radically different modes of writing side by side, revealing her to be a magnificent storyteller, a sharp, sly humorist and a powerful feminist. Shirley Jackson was born in California in 1916. When her short storyThe Lottery was first published in The New Yorker in 1948, readers were so horrified they sent her hate mail; it has since become one of the most iconic American stories of all time. Her first novel, The Road Through the Wall, was published in the same year and was followed by five more: Hangsaman, The Bird's Nest, The Sundial, The Haunting of Hill House and We Have Always Lived in the Castle, widely seen as her masterpiece. In addition to her dark, brilliant novels, she wrote lightly fictionalized magazine pieces about family life with her four children and her husband, the critic Stanley Edgar Hyman. Shirley Jackson died in her sleep in 1965 at the age of 48. 'An amazing writer' Neil Gaiman 'The world of Shirley Jackson is eerie and unforgettable ... She is a true master' A. M. Homes 'Shirley Jackson's stories are among the most terrifying ever written' Donna Tartt

Change Your Clothes written by Terri Davis and has been published by Xlibris Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-05-13 with Religion categories.

I was inspired to write about several events that occurred through my transition of change. Changing hasnt always come easily; in fact, the more I think about it, I was not even considering changing my way of living until God stepped into my life and began ministering to me. My whole world turned in a different and unfamiliar direction. I was afraid and on many occasions paralyzed by the fear of moving from my familiar way of life. I was sometimes disobedient, for when God wanted me to go one way I would go the other. I had to repent! The moment I allowed change was the moment I began my journey to destiny. Change is very common in the world we live in. With technology, markets up and down, our children growing up (they are not infants anymore, and neither are we!), it is evident that we experience change but the question is will we accept it in our hearts. I can say that with God it will be a more pleasant transition. Change is going to come whether we are ready for it or not; so I encourage you to embrace change as it comes. It may not be easy but it is always good. It may be joyous for some, and so unexpected for others that many may change kicking and screaming. Whether you are the kicker or screamer, remember to repent. The key is to change. God told Jacob to gather his people and go up to Bethel to worship and to put away their idols (see Genesis 35:25). God is calling us to do the same. He wants us to experience everything that he created us for, which will only come with our changing. As you walk with me through these pages, I hope that you will not just laugh but think about how important it is for your future that you do change. Most of all, I pray that you will connect with this writing and use it as a tool to move forward. These testimonies are from my heart to yours in hope that you will see there are so many in this world going through similar changes and to assure you that you are not alone. Never did I think the day would come when I would be sharing a part of my life with an audience or be fortunate enough to share my testimonies with you. Well, this day has come, and it came because I became hungry for change. I hope that as you read, you will discover your potential to change and do so now. May our God richly bless you! Terri Davis
