HOOD STORIES Is a book about a teenager named Koran Davis who leaves South Central Los Angeles to escape drug dealing and violence, When he comes to Hot Springs, Arkansas, he encounters the same drug dealing and violence. He meets three people in High School. One is "3D", A natural born hustler who supply the crew with everything they need. Second is "Crazy Joe", An unpredictable psychopath who will do anything at anytime. Then there's "Stacy", The girl Koran falls in love with. When his family in Arkansas sees the attention he shows her, they get jealous and suddenly betrays him. When this happens, he has no choice but to turn his back on them. He depends on his family he left from California with, his Mom, Dad, and his Sister. A war is started between East and West Grand when Crazy Joe shoots and kills the brother of a gang leader. It's up to Koran to try to guide him and his friends out of the cycles of violence they're in. When his friends don't listen, It's up to him to listen to his conscious to survive. Black Male chose the title "HOOD STORIES" because every time somebody comes from out of town, they have stories to share about there neighborhood. They'll share stories about ours to them, plus I want to tell people my opinion on why teenagers become criminals. THE BEST URBAN BOOK OF 2010. These stories are not fables or fairy tales. They are severe chronicles of gangstas, written by men and women who have starved and bled and survived by the code of the streets. Essence magazine’s #1 bestselling author Nikki Turner has earned her rep as “the Princess of Hip-Hop” with gritty urban novels like A Hustler’s Wife and The Glamorous Life. Now she lends her considerable street cred to this anthology, the first of its kind–an explosive collection featuring edgy new writers Turner handpicked for their ability to evoke the street, and the people who live by its rules, in hot, hyperrealistic stories. Turner scoured the ghetto, the prisons, and every crack and crevice around the country to bring you these impressive new fresh-from-the-street voices. Never one to disappoint her fans, Turner even throws in a raw gangsta tale of her own. From a buppie who risks her entire well-groomed world when she’s suddenly turned on by a thug (“Gotta Have a Ruffneck”), to a lesbian pimp who gets what she deserves from the women she’s turning out (“Big Daddy”), these stories will shock, entertain, and make you fly through the pages.

The Isolation Booth written by Hugh Hood and has been published by The Porcupine's Quill this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991 with Fiction categories.

"The Isolation Booth" is the third volume in Hugh Hood's Collected Stories; it contains short fiction written between 1957 and 1966. While all of the stories have been previously published in various magazines, this is the first time they are available in book form. The title story was first published in "The Tamarack Review" in 1958; the paid to Hood for that story represents the first income he ever made from his writing. Since then, Hugh Hood has become one of Canada's most prolific short-story writers and novelists.' (William French, "The Globe & Mail") He has authored more than twenty books, including novels, short-story collections and essays. The Porcupine's Quill has previously published "Flying a Red Kite" and "A Short Walk in the Rain" as part of our continuing series of Hood's Collected Stories. The stories in this collection are varied in form and content, from The Isolation Booth', which Hood describes in his introduction as ... typical media folklore, the tale of a human sacrifice', to The Fable of the Ant and the Grasshopper' which is concerned with the moral: Never oppress the shiftless and the idle; they may have powerful friends.' These stories reflect the variety of Hood's experiments with the form, as well as his continuing concern with the human condition, which prompted William Blackburn to comment, Hood's thirty-year career demonstrates his profound and compassionate sensitivity to our human predicament.' ("Canadian Book Review Annual"). As Hood writes in the introduction to "The Isolation Booth," Surely the society that invents a space called the isolation booth'' isn't far removed from the subliminal motivations of the torturers in prisons and camps of one kind or another. I've always shuddered remembering the phrase, yet it was in common use among millions of weekly viewers of big-money TV quiz programmes like The $64,000 Question''.' These concerns are (unfortunately) as meaningful now as when The Isolation Booth' was written in 1958.
