God S Enduring Love In The Book Of Hosea written by Joy Philip Kakkanattu and has been published by Mohr Siebeck this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Family & Relationships categories.

Joy Philip Kakkanattu provides an exegetical and theological analysis of an important and difficult text of the Old Testament through a synchronic and diachronic reading. Detailed critical notes, which discuss the textual difficulties, accompany the translation of the text from Hebrew. In the detailed exegesis, special attention is given to study of the key terms theologically significant in Hos 11:1-11 against the context of the whole book. The exegesis shows that in Hos 11:8-9 it is not the repentance of Yahweh that causes the withholding of His anger against Israel, but Yahweh's constancy in His election of Israel as His son. More than a change of heart, the decision not to execute the deserved judgement witnesses Yahweh's divine nature. Special attention is dedicated to the parent metaphor employed in Hos 11:1-11. It is concluded that more than expressing the Yahweh-Israel relationship as a father-son relationship, the text speaks of it in terms of parent-child relationship. In the diachronic analysis, the author deals with the origin and formation of Hos 11:1-11.

As spokesman for God and because of his role in the history of Israel's religion, Hosea is a crucial figure in the Old Testament. He stands near the source of a current of faith and tradition that flows to Jeremiah and Deuteronomy. None surpasses him in the passion and creativeness of his prophecy. He spoke out of a feeling of identification with his God that carries a convincing authenticity. He was a man of tremendous emotional range, able at least to reflect in his own feelings the gamut of divine wrath and compassion. Through his sayings and person Yahweh, the God of Israel, wages his final battle against Baal for the soul of Israel. - Introduction.

Centering on the "knowledge of God" and the ultimate painful, paradoxical triumph of God's grace, the book of Hosea is one of ambivalence and redemption. The redemptive message of Hosea is underscored by H. D. Beeby's canonical and Christological interpretation. Beeby stresses that the true context of the book is much wider than the eighth century B.C.; Hosea must continually be heard against the background of and in response to the reader's own time. This commentary makes Hosea's message available today to all who struggle with questions of gospel and culture, contextualization, idolatry, church and state, and interfaith dialogue.

The Significance Of Jesus S Use Of Hosea 6 6 In The Gospel Of Matthew written by Daniel Ahn author and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020 with Bible categories.

Jesus cites Hos 6:6, “I desire mercy not sacrifice”, in his response to the Pharisees’ question in 9:10-13 and their objection in 12:1-8. The parallel accounts in the Gospel of Mark (2:13-17 and 2:23-28) and Luke (5:27-32 and 6:1-5) omit this use of Hos 6:6. Jesus’s use of Hos 6:6 in Matt 9:13 would have been part of Jesus’s teaching that Matthew first heard as a disciple of Jesus. Not only is it plausible that Matthew would have remembered and included this citation in his Gospel, Jesus’s use of Hos 6:6 may have been significant in the shaping of Matthew’s Gospel and his use of Scripture. A grammatical-historical and literary-critical approach that pays careful attention to the placement of Matt 9:9-13 and 12:1-8 in the flow of Matthew’s narrative, the logic of Jesus’s argument in these pericopes, and the context of Hos 6:6 in the book of Hosea and salvation history will help explain the meaning and significance of Jesus’s use of Hos 6:6. This approach will demonstrate that Jesus uses Hos 6:6 typologically in Matt 9:13 and salvation-historically in Matt 12:7. The significance of this use of Hos 6:6 may be evident in some of the unique aspects of Matthew’s Gospel—Matthew’s exception for divorce in the case of adultery, the structure of the narrative account of Jesus’s miracles in Matt 8-9, and the focus on Israel in the ministry of Jesus and his disciples. Jesus’s use of Hos 6:6 may have also served as a model for Matthew’s own use of Hos 11:1 in Matt 2:15.

The book of Hosea is a story of the amazing love of God for us. It is also a salvation story. Hosea was asked by God to marry a woman who would prove to be unfaithful to him later. He was to use his marriage as an object lesson for Israel because they were deep into sin and far, far away from God. Hosea was to play the part of God. His wife, Gomer would play the part of God's people. We see this covenant love of God played out in Hosea's marriage. Despite Gomer's unfaithfulness, Hosea continued to care and provide for her to the extent that he went to buy her back from the slave market (Hose 3:1-2). The gospel of Hosea is this: No matter what we do, no matter how sinful we are, God pursues us, romances us, stalks us, and stakes us out in a radical grace based in himself. When we run away from him, God still pursues us. God pursues us because he does not want "anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9). As we look back on our lives and how we came to salvation, many of us would have sensed the feeling that God pursued us. And just as God pursues us, we are compelled to pursue others too.

Hosea written by David Allan Hubbard and has been published by Apollos this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989 with Bible categories.

A wanton and adulterous woman repeatedly spurns the love of her youth. Her betrayed and grieving husband offers forgiveness and seeks to restore the intimacy of their first love. Bold imagery indeed for telling the story of God and his people. Bolder still when God calls a prophet to enflesh this divine suffering and redeeming forgiveness in his own marriage. Yet this remarkable story sets the stage for Hosea's message of God's enduring love, his righteous judgement and his persistent offer of reconciliation. This commentary explores the historical, cultural, literary and theological dimensions of the book of Hosea. Distilled from a career of biblical scholarship, theological reflection and masterful teaching, David Hubbard has been studying, teaching and thinking about Hosea for a long time. He frankly admits he can't imagine himself "as a human being, let alone as a believing person, without the deposit of Hosea's political, moral and spiritual insights." Find out why. The original, unrevised text of this volume has been completely retyped and printed in a larger, more attractive format with the new cover design for the series.
