God S Enduring Love In The Book Of Hosea written by Joy Philip Kakkanattu and has been published by Mohr Siebeck this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Family & Relationships categories.

Joy Philip Kakkanattu provides an exegetical and theological analysis of an important and difficult text of the Old Testament through a synchronic and diachronic reading. Detailed critical notes, which discuss the textual difficulties, accompany the translation of the text from Hebrew. In the detailed exegesis, special attention is given to study of the key terms theologically significant in Hos 11:1-11 against the context of the whole book. The exegesis shows that in Hos 11:8-9 it is not the repentance of Yahweh that causes the withholding of His anger against Israel, but Yahweh's constancy in His election of Israel as His son. More than a change of heart, the decision not to execute the deserved judgement witnesses Yahweh's divine nature. Special attention is dedicated to the parent metaphor employed in Hos 11:1-11. It is concluded that more than expressing the Yahweh-Israel relationship as a father-son relationship, the text speaks of it in terms of parent-child relationship. In the diachronic analysis, the author deals with the origin and formation of Hos 11:1-11.

The Book of Hosea is one of the prophetic books in the Old Testament of the Bible. It is attributed to the prophet Hosea, who lived in the eighth century BCE. The book primarily deals with themes of spiritual infidelity, divine judgment, and the redemptive love of God. Hosea uses his own personal experiences as a metaphor to convey God's relationship with the people of Israel. He is commanded by God to marry a woman named Gomer, who represents the unfaithfulness of the Israelites towards God. Gomer's unfaithfulness and promiscuity symbolize Israel's idolatry and turning away from God to worship other gods. Throughout the book, Hosea proclaims God's judgment upon Israel for their unfaithfulness. He warns of the consequences of their actions and the impending destruction that will befall them. However, the book also reveals God's enduring love and mercy. Despite Israel's betrayal, God promises to restore them and renew the covenant relationship with them. The book of Hosea emphasizes the need for repentance, calling on the people of Israel to turn back to God and seek His forgiveness. It highlights the consequences of sin and the ultimate restoration that comes through God's grace and love. In summary, the book of Hosea deals with the themes of spiritual infidelity, divine judgment, and the redemptive love of God. It uses the prophet's personal experiences and marriage metaphorically to convey God's relationship with the unfaithful Israelites and the hope of restoration.

Hosea written by Robin Routledge and has been published by InterVarsity Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-01-12 with Religion categories.

An adulterous woman repeatedly spurns the love of her youth, while her betrayed husband offers forgiveness and seeks to win her back. With this bold and uncomfortable imagery, Hosea tells the story of God and his people. God calls the prophet to embody this divine suffering and redeeming forgiveness in his own marriage, thereby setting the stage for his message of God's faithful and enduring love, his righteous judgment, and his continuing offer of reconciliation and restoration. This Tyndale commentary from Robin Routledge explores the historical, cultural, literary, and theological dimensions of the book of Hosea. The Tyndale Commentaries are designed to help the reader of the Bible understand what the text says and what it means. The Introduction to each book gives a concise but thorough treatment of its authorship, date, original setting, and purpose. Following a structural Analysis, the Commentary takes the book section by section, drawing out its main themes, and also comments on individual verses and problems of interpretation. Additional Notes provide fuller discussion of particular difficulties. In the new Old Testament volumes, the commentary on each section of the text is structured under three headings: Context, Comment, and Meaning. The goal is to explain the true meaning of the Bible and make its message plain.

A wanton and adulterous woman repeatedly spurns the love of her youth. Her betrayed and grieving husband offers forgiveness and seeks to restore the intimacy of their first love. Bold imagery indeed for telling the story of God and his people. Bolder still when God calls a prophet to enflesh this divine suffering and redeeming forgiveness in his own marriage. Yet this remarkable story sets the stage for Hosea's message of God's enduring love, his righteous judgement and his persistent offer of reconciliation. This commentary explores the historical, cultural, literary and theological dimensions of the book of Hosea. Distilled from a career of biblical scholarship, theological reflection and masterful teaching, David Hubbard has been studying, teaching and thinking about Hosea for a long time. He frankly admits he can't imagine himself "as a human being, let alone as a believing person, without the deposit of Hosea's political, moral and spiritual insights." Find out why. The original, unrevised text of this volume has been completely retyped and printed in a larger, more attractive format with the new cover design for the series.

Hosea S God written by Mason D. Lancaster and has been published by SBL Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-08-11 with Religion categories.

The book of Hosea is a labyrinth of juxtaposed images for God and God’s people, with such disparate metaphors as God the devouring lion and God the reviving dew. In Hosea’s God: A Metaphorical Theology, Mason D. Lancaster demonstrates that recent advances in metaphor theory help untangle these divergent portrayals of God. He analyzes fifteen metaphor clusters in Hosea 4–14 individually, then discerns patterns and reversals between the clusters. Finally, respecting the ancient value for emphasizing individual aspects of a depiction over a homogenized picture of the whole, the book identifies five characteristics of God prominent among the metaphors of Hosea. Based on this analysis, Lancaster asserts that Hosea’s metaphorical depiction of Yahweh ultimately derives from the primacy of Yahweh’s fidelity to Israel.

The Lure Of Transcendence And The Audacity Of Prayer written by Samuel E. Balentine and has been published by Mohr Siebeck this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-06-24 with Religion categories.

The discourse of prayer responds to the abiding lure of transcendence. From Gilgamesh to the primordial human beings in Eden to Odysseus, the quest for ultimate truths has summoned forth all manner of human effort - courageous, desperate, pious, impious, successful, failed, invited, forbidden - and like all such lures, one can never be certain whether the glimmer of transcendence is that of a bright and shining star that illuminates the shadows or only a shiny object that seduces one into an inescapable darkness (a fishing lure, for example). In this study, Samuel E. Balentine demonstrates how prayer's invocation of God transgresses the limits of human beings. The author shows how inviting, let alone commanding God to speak may be the "acme of bardic pretention," but in the ancient world such transgression characterizes the audacity of prayer.
