How Majestic Is Your Name written by Walter Leslie McConnell and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-07 with Religion categories.

Christians give a broad spectrum of answers to the question, "What is worship?" These include ascribing worth to God, performing certain activities during worship services, singing a particular style of song, responding to God with our whole being, and more. That Christians have such a splintered understanding of something as important as worship is far from satisfactory. How Majestic is Your Name aims to broaden our understanding of worship by engaging the subject biblically and theologically as developed in both Testaments of Scripture. As we learn more of God's design, our daily, weekly, and seasonal practices of private and public worship will be renewed. Foundations are laid by identifying the Old and New Testament words for worship and demonstrating their importance. The object of worship is brought into focus as we encounter the God who is experienced as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The object identified, we consider the people who worship within space and time by engaging in a variety of activities. Not content with simply recounting biblical evidence about the worship of Israel and the early church, the book challenges modern worshipers to allow this biblical theological study to guide their thinking and shape their practice.

Catalogue Of Choral Music Arranged In Biblical Order written by James H. Laster and has been published by Scarecrow Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996-06-11 with Music categories.

This second edition of Laster's Catalog combines in one volume the listings from the first catalog with the voluminous material that has appeared since 1973, more than doubling the number of citations. It is designed as an aid for the church musician and/or pastor seeking to plan unified worship services. It will also be of use to those church musicians who follow the Liturgical Calendar and plan music appropriate to the appointed lessons, as well as a source for non-church choir directors who would like to locate choral settings based on a particular passage from Scripture. Entries are arranged from Genesis through Revelation. Each main entry citation provides the biblical reference (book, chapter, and verse), as well as a reference to additional passages from Scripture used in the anthem. The composer, arranger, or editor and the title are listed as they appear on the octavo. Information on voicing, solos, and instrumental accompaniment is noted; the name of the publisher, the most recent date of publication and the octavo number appear at the end of each citation, where information on instrumental parts, other versions of the same title, and collections where the work might appear are also listed. Composer and title indexes round off the work.

In this penultimate volume of his series on preaching Christ from the Old Testament, Sidney Greidanus offers expert guidance for busy pastors on preaching Christ from Psalms. Beginning with a general introduction on how pastors can interpret and preach from the biblical psalms — and why they should — Greidanus proceeds by discussing twenty-two psalms in the Revised Common Lectionary, Year A, supplying the building blocks necessary to preach from Psalms at Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, and other major days and seasons of the church year. In addition to laying out basic homiletical-theological approaches suitable for each selected psalm, these chapters also provide verse-by-verse exposition, bridges to Christ in the New Testament, and ideas for placing the psalmist’s words into contemporary context.

Hymns Psalms Worship written by Irving Risch and has been published by Irving Risch this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Religion categories.

As I thought about writing this book I had no idea where I was going to start. When you are overwhelmed by so much talent and love for the Lord, where do you start? My thoughts are of all the Hymn writers past present and future that love the Lord, and it shows in the writing of their hymns we have available to us today. I have always looked at music and in this case hymns, they are speaking to our souls. (True Soul Music.) Hymns have always been a big part of worship, they get our minds tuned and thoughts focused on the Lord and his great wonders. I find that they sometimes put praise on my lips and thanksgivings in my heart. I hope they do the same for you. Music moves the emotions. Some will make you cry while others will put joy in your heart. I took a ride this morning on my Trike, (my three wheel bike) and just enjoyed the lovely spring morning with all its newness. New leaves on the trees Tulips in full bloom. The air even smelled fresh, and I have the beauty of living alongside the Mississippi River in a small town in Southeast Minnesota. With this beauty, it put a song in my heart and makes me want to praise the Lord for his creation. You see, Worship can be done anywhere at any time, you don’t have to be in buildings with other Christians, but there is also a time for that as well. It is called corporate Worship where not just one voice goes up to the throne of grace, but many join as one. It was this beautiful ride that gave me the inspiration to write this book, and if you have decided to read it, my hope is that you enjoy it as much as I will in writing it. Since becoming a Christian about 38 years ago, I just love reading and writing about the Lord. The joy of every Christian should be getting to know Him in a more intimate way, and that is my hope of doing in this book. Think of it a devotional to help you do exactly that. There might be some instructions along the way as well. A good way to start this writing would be to quote the famous Protestant Reformer, Martin Luther. “ “I would allow no man to preach or teach God’s people without a proper knowledge of the use and power of sacred song.”

It will act as a guide for those who have a desire to pray more deeply into this ancient practice and invites readers into a spirituality that encompasses a way of being with God and the whole of life. Lectio Divina, grounded in Benedictine tradition, provides an accessible approach to praying with scripture as well as several concrete and creative ways of praying lectio with different "texts" such as poetry, icons, and movies. The book also explores ways of bringing lectio into scripture study and integrating lectio into busy lives. It concludes by offering the reader an exploration of the transformational value of lectio divina and a way of using lectio to pray with life experience. +
