It's an eclectic journey that begins in Round One, and you'll travel through several surreal scenarios. Both contenders claim to be victims, so then, who is the oppressor? The opponents will go the distance, and nothing is conceded. Wait a minute! Hold on. Hold everything! The referee has entered the ring:"Ladies and Gentlemen, in the red corner we have The Feminist Movement; the champions of the first and second waves. They have scored knock-outs along the way, and they have also notched up in the third phase. In the blue corner, the contenders: MGTOW (Men Going Their Own Way). We're going to have a clean show tonight! Step into the middle of the ring. Everyone knows the rules: no comments below the belt, no punching, holding, tripping, pushing, biting, or spitting; dancing is allowed. Ring the bell for Round One!"Men's unspoken observations are graphically revealed, and their reactions to feminism are expressed openly. There are plenty of stereotypes and generalizations from both points of view. One side moves to incinerate the manuscript before the opening bell! The referee rules: Both sides must be heard; and militant feminist's ears burn. Anger flares as the gloves come off early, yet there are 12 rounds to go. There is no regard for political correctness whatsoever, and difficult questions are covered: What are likely changes in the future? Who stands to gain? What determines the direction? Are gender roles outdated? Will sex-bots be the solution? Can biased family laws change? Could feminism be four-plus millennia old? Are scriptures relevant? You are challenged to decide: Who is winning?

No Turning Back written by Estelle Freedman and has been published by Ballantine Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-12-18 with Social Science categories.

Repeatedly declared dead by the media, the women’s movement has never been as vibrant as it is today. Indeed as Stanford professor and award-winning author Estelle B. Freedman argues in her compelling new book, feminism has reached a critical momentum from which there is no turning back. A truly global movement, as vital and dynamic in the developing world as it is in the West, feminism has helped women achieve authority in politics, sports, and business, and has mobilized public concern for once-taboo issues like rape, domestic violence, and breast cancer. And yet much work remains before women attain real equality. In this fascinating book, Freedman examines the historical forces that have fueled the feminist movement over the past two hundred years–and explores how women today are looking to feminism for new approaches to issues of work, family, sexuality, and creativity. Freedman begins with an incisive analysis of what feminism means and why it took root in western Europe and the United States at the end of the eighteenth century. The rationalist, humanistic philosophy of the Enlightenment, which ignited the American Revolution, also sparked feminist politics, inspiring such pioneers as Mary Wollstonecraft and Susan B. Anthony. Race has always been as important as gender in defining feminism, and Freedman traces the intricate ties between women’s rights and abolitionism in the United States in the years before the Civil War and the long tradition of radical women of color, stretching back to the impassioned rhetoric of Sojourner Truth. As industrialism and democratic politics spread after World War II, feminist politics gained momentum and sophistication throughout the world. Their impact began to be felt in every aspect of society–from the workplace to the chambers of government to relations between the sexes. Because of feminism, Freedman points out, the line between the personal and the political has blurred, or disappeared, and issues once considered “merely” private–abortion, sexual violence, homosexuality, reproductive health, beauty and body image–have entered the public arena as subjects of fierce, ongoing debate. Freedman combines a scholar’s meticulous research with a social critic’s keen eye. Sweeping in scope, searching in its analysis, global in its perspective, No Turning Back will stand as a defining text in one of the most important social movements of all time.

The Field Guide to the North American Teenager meets Derry Girls in this hilarious and relatable young adult novel in diary entries about a British teen determined to be a good feminist and her charming, embarrassing, and inspiring journey to figuring out how. At fifteen, Kat Evans is still sorting it all out, and that includes being a good feminist (and, by extension, a good human). She promises herself that this school year, she’ll be making changes to her life that will make her less of a walking disaster, like: 1) keeping her diary every day as all the top journalists and writers do; 2) stop obsessing over her crush Hot Josh because she doesn’t need a man to complete her; 3) stop stalking said Hot Josh on Instagram and accidentally liking his pictures; 4) somehow managing to stop worrying about every single thing in her life; and, most importantly, 5) SMASHING THE PATRIARCHY—that is, after she figures out what it is and how one goes about dismantling it. And though Kat may lack the grace it requires to meet her goals, she makes up for that with plenty of good humor as she stumbles through high school with all its bullies, parties, and crippling moments of self-doubt. With the help of her best friends, her parents, and her diary, Kat may figure out how to be a cool, fun feminist yet.

An important new voice provides a riveting look at why video games need feminism and why all of us should make space for more play in our lives. "You play like a girl": it's meant to be an insult, accusing a player of subpar, un-fun playing. If you're a girl, and you grow up, do you "play like a woman"--whatever that means? In this provocative and enlightening book, Shira Chess urges us to play like feminists. Furthermore, she urges us to play video games like feminists. Playing like a feminist is empowering and disruptive; it exceeds the boundaries of gender yet still advocates for gender equality. Feminism need video games as much as video games need feminism.
