The Limits Of A Catholic Spirit written by Kelly Diehl Yates and has been published by Lutterworth Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-06-29 with History categories.

The Limits of a Catholic Spirit presents an extraordinary, in-depth study of John Wesley's relationship with Catholicism, examining the limits to which Wesley, as an evangelical Protestant, practiced his ideal of a Catholic spirit. Through the use of rare primary sources from the National Archives, Kelly Diehl Yates provides a refreshing investigation of Wesley's interaction and strained relationship with Catholicism, taking the path less trodden in studies of his theology. While revisionist scholars argue that Wesley proposed principles of religious tolerance in his sermon, Catholic Spirit, Yates argues that he did not expect unity between Protestants and Catholics, remaining wedded to anti-Catholic beliefs himself. By paying attention to this previously unfilled gap in Wesley studies, Yates' exemplary historical and critical study tackles questions which have beset Wesley scholars for decades, including Wesley's relationship with the Jesuits, Jacobitism, the anti-Catholic Gordon Riots of 1780, and his time in Ireland. Grounded in historical case studies, Yates explores these questions from a fresh perspective, providing answers to these questions, and more.

Conscience Equity And The Court Of Chancery In Early Modern England written by Dennis R. Klinck and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-05-23 with History categories.

Judicial equity developed in England during the medieval period, providing an alternative access to justice for cases that the rigid structures of the common law could not accommodate. Where the common law was constrained by precedent and strict procedural and substantive rules, equity relied on principles of natural justice - or 'conscience' - to decide cases and right wrongs. Overseen by the Lord Chancellor, equity became one of the twin pillars of the English legal system with the Court of Chancery playing an ever greater role in the legal life of the nation. Yet, whilst the Chancery was commonly - and still sometimes is - referred to as a 'court of conscience', there is remarkably little consensus about what this actually means, or indeed whose conscience is under discussion. This study tackles the difficult subject of the place of conscience in the development of English equity during a crucial period of legal history. Addressing the notion of conscience as a juristic principle in the Court of Chancery during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the book explores how the concept was understood and how it figured in legal judgment. Drawing upon both legal and broader cultural materials, it explains how that understanding differed from modern notions and how it might have been more consistent with criteria we commonly associate with objective legal judgement than the modern, more 'subjective', concept of conscience. The study culminates with an examination of the chancellorship of Lord Nottingham (1673-82), who, because of his efforts to transform equity from a jurisdiction associated with discretion into one based on rules, is conventionally regarded as the father of modern, 'systematic' equity. From a broader perspective, this study can be seen as a contribution to the enduring discussion of the relationship between 'formal' accounts of law, which see it as systems of rules, and less formal accounts, which try to make room for intuitive moral or prudential reasoning.

How important is conscience for the Christian moral life? In this book, Matthew Levering surveys twentieth-century Catholic moral theology to construct an argument against centering ethics on conscience. He instead argues that conscience must be formed by the revealed truths of Scripture as interpreted and applied in the church. Levering shows how conscience-centered ethics came to be—both prior to and following the Second Vatican Council—and how important voices from both the Catholic and Protestant communities criticized the primacy of conscience in favor of an approach that considers conscience within the broader framework of the Christian moral organism. Rather than engaging with current hot-button issues, Levering presents and deconstructs the work of twenty-six noteworthy theologians from the recent past in order to work through core matters. He begins by examining the place of conscience in Scripture and in the Catholic “moral manuals” of the twentieth century. He then explores the rebuttals to conscience-centered ethics offered by pre- and post-conciliar Thomists and the emergence of a new, even more problematic conscience-centered ethics in German thought. Amid this wide-ranging introduction to various strands of Catholic moral theology, Levering crafts an incisive intervention of his own against the abuse of conscience that besets the church today as it did in the last century.

Introduction A life of Healing, a life of Health, A life worth living is a life of Wealth. I have practiced over 25 years as a chiropractor and I have learned that most people come to me to treat their pain. I’m sure that most doctors and therapists have the same experience, people want to receive a treatment that will cure their illness. As I treat my patients I’m also analyzing how their problem was created. I’m looking at various factors like diet, lack of exercise, injurious repetitive movements or anything else that could provoke the problem. I’m trying to get the patient to take responsibility for their problem and help me with their treatment. It appears that I’m treating their physical illness but over the years I have come to a new realization, that a person’s emotional, mental and spiritual side can also affect their health. The reality of the situation is that we can’t separate an illness into a physical, emotional, mental or spiritual ailment, because everything works together. I now understand that attitudes play an essential role in our health and wellbeing. Attitudes have characteristics that are physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. In psychology attitudes are labeled as behavioral (physical), affective (emotional) and cognitive (mental). In this book attitudes have a spiritual side as well, attitudes will have a positive spiritual value or a negative spiritual value. Attitudes that bring people together and unite them has an energy with a positive spiritual value and attitudes that are divisive and cause separation has a negative value. If we have attitudes with a negative spiritual energy then they will cause illness; physical illness, mental illness and emotional illness. We need to adopt attitudes with a positive spiritual energy if we want to stay healthy and grow spiritually. Spiritual growth is there for all of us but we have to make the effort, no one can make us grow spiritually. Looking for someone to cure our ills is a short-term proposition, the long term cure is when we discover what is causing us harm and create a healthy lifestyle. The 7 Laws of Human Nature is a scientific philosophical study into the human consciousness, the 7 chakras and the human aura. We use theories to make sense about what we are observing in life, to explain ideas and interpret facts. The 1st chapter is the Theory of the Oneness of Universal Love, which will present 7 hypotheses. These hypotheses will present facts and suppositions of facts, which will be followed up by a theory. This is all happening on four energy levels; physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Life on Earth has to have a reason, our lives aren’t an accident and this book presents a logical theory on the how and why of life. This is a book on love and how love works in our lives. With Love and Devotion to All

Toward An Other Globalization From The Single Thought To Universal Conscience written by Milton Santos and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-05-11 with Political Science categories.

This book presents an alternative theory of globalization that derives not from the dominant perspective of the West, from which this process emerged, but from the critical vantage point of the Third World, which has borne the heaviest burdens of globalization. It offers a critical and uniquely first-hand perspective that is lacking not only from the apologists of Western hegemony, but from most scholars writing against this hegemony from within the globalizing world. Renowned throughout Latin America and parts of Europe, the author, Brazilian geographer Milton Santos, has long been for the most part inaccessible to the English-speaking world. Only one of his books, The Shared Space: The Two Circuits of the Urban Economy in Underdeveloped Countries, published in 1975, has been translated into English; nevertheless, the works of Santos's most important phase, from the 1980s until his death in 2001, have remained unavailable to English readers. With the translation of Toward an Other Globalization, one of the last works published in Santos’s lifetime, this situation has finally been rectified. In this book, Santos argues that we must consider globalization in three different senses: globalization as a fable (the world as globalizing agents make us believe), as perversity (the world as it is presently, in the throes of globalization), and as possibility (the world as it could be). What emerges from the analysis of these three senses is an alternative theory of globalization rooted in the perspective of the so-called Global South. Santos concludes his text with a message that is optimistic, but in no way naïve. What he offers instead is a revolutionary optimism and, indeed, an other globalization.
