Cortez is a living kidney donor and has attended the Transplant Games as part of Team Wisconsin. She also serves as the Donor Registry Liaison for Team Wisconsin. Brenda was truly in awe by the amazing experience at her first Transplant Games in 2016, so she wanted to bring that experience to life for others in this book with Howl and his friends.
