Integrating analytics in the workforce development field is becoming a mandate, and the human resource (HR) analytics approach is a promising technique that allows forming evidence-based decisions and reduce risk associated with investments decisions. Although scholars and practitioners are continuously mandating analytics as a must have capabilities for HR professionals, the workforce development related literature is significantly falling behind in guiding HR professionals to advance their capabilities in using analytics. Most of the related studies focused on promoting analytics and there has been no reports of efforts about the process of putting analytics into practice. This study focuses on putting HR analytics into practice by connecting the HR analytics approach to machine learning, as one of the most advanced analytical approaches, to solve a real business problem. This study focuses on providing a demonstration to the process of developing a machine learning project to solve a real business problem. Specifically, the study uses the CRISP-DM (Cross Industry Standard Process for Data Mining) model to guide the process of building various machine learning models to predict employee absenteeism. Using the CRISP model, the process is organized in six steps: business understanding, data understanding, data preparation, modeling, evaluation, and deployment. The study provides a demonstration to all the steps in order to build a machine learning project that focuses on understanding the business problem, form the appropriate machine learning problem, collect data that is related to the machine learning objectives, prepare the data for the analysis, build and evaluate the predictive model, and finally explain the machine learning model's predictions in order to build trust with the model's results.

For the HR analyst, a section is included to discuss the realistic challenges you will face in collecting and analyzing HR data. Introducing Hr Analytics With Machine Learning written by Christopher M. Rosett and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-06-14 with Psychology categories.

This book directly addresses the explosion of literature about leveraging analytics with employee data and how organizational psychologists and practitioners can harness new information to help guide positive change in the workplace. In order for today’s organizational psychologists to successfully work with their partners they must go beyond behavioral science into the realms of computing and business acumen. Similarly, today’s data scientists must appreciate the unique aspects of behavioral data and the special circumstances which surround HR data and HR systems. Finally, traditional HR professionals must become familiar with research methods, statistics, and data systems in order to collaborate with these new specialized partners and teams. Despite the increasing importance of this diversity of skill, many organizations are still unprepared to build teams with the comprehensive skills necessary to have high performing HR Analytics functions. And importantly, all these considerations are magnified by the introduction and acceleration of machine learning in HR. This book will serve as an introduction to these areas and provide guidance on building the connectivity across domains required to establish well-rounded skills for individuals and best practices for organizations when beginning to apply advanced analytics to workforce data. It will also introduce machine learning and where it fits within the larger HR Analytics framework by explaining many of its basic tenets and methodologies. By the end of the book, readers will understand the skills required to do advanced HR analytics well, as well as how to begin designing and applying machine learning within a larger human capital strategy.
