A cross-disciplinary approach is offered to consider the challenge of emerging technologies designed to enhance human bodies and minds. Perspectives from philosophy, ethics, law, and policy are applied to a wide variety of enhancements, including integration of technology within human bodies, as well as genetic, biological, and pharmacological modifications. Humans may be permanently or temporarily enhanced with artificial parts by manipulating (or reprogramming) human DNA and through other enhancement techniques (and combinations thereof). We are on the cusp of significantly modifying (and perhaps improving) the human ecosystem. This evolution necessitates a continuing effort to re-evaluate current laws and, if appropriate, to modify such laws or develop new laws that address enhancement technology. A legal, ethical, and policy response to current and future human enhancements should strive to protect the rights of all involved and to recognize the responsibilities of humans to other conscious and living beings, regardless of what they look like or what abilities they have (or lack). A potential ethical approach is outlined in which rights and responsibilities should be respected even if enhanced humans are perceived by non-enhanced (or less-enhanced) humans as “no longer human” at all.

Better Humans written by Paul Miller and has been published by Demos Medical Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Business & Economics categories.

We all share a desire for self-improvement.Whether through education, work, parenthood or adhering to religious or ethical codes, each of us seeks to become a 'better human' in a variety of ways. And for some people, more consumerist pursuits hold the key to self-improvement: working out in the gym, wearing makeup, buying new clothes, or indulging in a spot of cosmetic surgery. But now a new set of possibilities is opening up. Advances in biotechnology, neuroscience, computing and nanotechnology mean that we are in the early stages of a period of huge technological potential. Within the next 30 years, it may become commonplace to alter the genetic make-up of our children, to insert artificial implants into our bodies, or to radically extend life expectancy. This collection of essays by leading scientists and commentators explores the implications of human enhancement technologies and asks how citizens and policy-makers should respond.

The Merge written by Wenitte Apiou and has been published by Wenitte Apiou this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-12-28 with Philosophy categories.

"The Merge," written by Wenitte Apiou, is a thought-provoking book that argues that the convergence of humans and machines is inevitable and that we must embrace this future in order to thrive and prosper. Drawing upon science, history, legends, and philosophy, Apiou presents a compelling case for the merging of humans and machines. He begins by exploring the history of humans and their relationship with technology, highlighting the many ways in which we have used technology to enhance and augment our capabilities. From the earliest stone tools to the development of artificial intelligence, Apiou shows how humans have always sought to harness the power of technology to improve their lives. Apiou then turns to the present day, where we are seeing the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and machine learning. These technologies have the potential to transform the way we live and work, enabling us to perform tasks faster and more efficiently than ever before. However, Apiou also acknowledges the potential risks and downsides of these technologies, and argues that we must approach the convergence of humans and machines with caution and consideration for the potential consequences. In the second half of the book, Apiou delves into the philosophical and ethical implications of the convergence of humans and machines. He argues that by merging with machines, we can achieve unprecedented levels of efficiency and productivity, and access vast amounts of information and perform complex tasks at unimaginable speeds. However, they also recognize the potential loss of privacy and individual autonomy that may come with these advancements, and argue that it is important to put safeguards in place to protect against these risks. Overall, "The Merge" is a thought-provoking book that presents a compelling case for the convergence of humans and machines. It offers a nuanced and balanced perspective on the potential benefits and risks of these technologies, and provides a thought-provoking exploration of the ethical and philosophical implications of the merging of doing so.

Human Enhancement written by Julian Savulescu and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-01-22 with Philosophy categories.

To what extent should we use technology to try to make better human beings? Because of the remarkable advances in biomedical science, we must now find an answer to this question. Human enhancement aims to increase human capacities above normal levels. Many forms of human enhancement are already in use. Many students and academics take cognition enhancing drugs to get a competitive edge. Some top athletes boost their performance with legal and illegal substances. Many an office worker begins each day with a dose of caffeine. This is only the beginning. As science and technology advance further, it will become increasingly possible to enhance basic human capacities to increase or modulate cognition, mood, personality, and physical performance, and to control the biological processes underlying normal aging. Some have suggested that such advances would take us beyond the bounds of human nature. These trends, and these dramatic prospects, raise profound ethical questions. They have generated intense public debate and have become a central topic of discussion within practical ethics. Should we side with bioconservatives, and forgo the use of any biomedical interventions aimed at enhancing human capacities? Should we side with transhumanists and embrace the new opportunities? Or should we perhaps plot some middle course? Human Enhancement presents the latest moves in this crucial debate: original contributions from many of the world's leading ethicists and moral thinkers, representing a wide range of perspectives, advocates and sceptics, enthusiasts and moderates. These are the arguments that will determine how humanity develops in the near future.
