"Human Expressions of Spirituality" is a collection of essays by scholars in the fields of history, theology, and spirituality from the primal peoples to the world's great religious traditions. These scholars chart the foundations and development of these religions as well as explain the essence of their spirituality. In addition to the religious and spiritual themes, a study of humanity's relationship to ecology, compassion, social justice, food, art and music are explored. It is clear that the spiritual wisdom throughout the ages continues to inspire contemporary society and culture. "Human Expressions of Spirituality" provides: a plethora of information from a historical overview of primal and world religions of West and East including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism and their accompanying spiritualities, as well as secular spirituality; an exploration of social themes and how they impact the human spirit and the human community; a variety of scholars and specialists' contributions, helping the reader learn from many different views on the world's religions and gain a sense of the accompanying spiritualities; and an opportunity to discover your own spiritual tradition more deeply, and to appreciate and even assimilate the vast spiritual legacies of our world today. Margaret M. McKinnon, PhD, DMin., holds two doctorates from Graduate Theological Foundation, in Mishawaka, Indiana, and is an Adjunct Faculty Credit Instructor in the School of World Studies Religious/Catholic Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia. Science and technology can provide solutions to physical or external aspects of our lives. With the introduction of AI in the form of language and vast information, it may seem like we have all the answers. However, the esoteric nature of life and existence is so profound that the esoteric questions of human life cannot be solved by mere semantics and definitions. Aspects of life like mind, religion, ego, yoga, love and meditation cannot be understood through intellect alone. Paradoxes can also be found everywhere because of the apparent opposition between the masculine energy of meditation and the feminine energy of love. Yet, within this purposeless existence, a meaningful life can also be found. Even in the face of complete contradiction or discord, it encompasses ultimate harmony. All these aspects can only be experienced through inner vision, which can be achieved by entering a new dimension or higher level of consciousness. When a person is completely immersed in meditation or love, merging with the entire energy flow of existence, his consciousness becomes one with the eternal, timeless void of eternity. At that point, everything becomes mysterious rather than the opposite. This book can be useful for those who want to transcend the outer superficial world and reach a new dimension of inner consciousness. It is best suited for those whose inner longing for real life has matured, who truly thirst to touch the mysteries of life. Despite all the experiences in life, there is something inside that is always dissatisfied, as if something is stuck inside the consciousness. Those who are searching for the real purpose of life must read this book. The title of this book may seem surprising to many people. Its purpose is to convey a deeper dimension of existence beyond mind and words. The language of any human mind is incapable of expressing the secret and mysterious message of the soul of existence. Yet as a writer I have tried to convey the voice of the soul of existence to the readers through words. This book represents a song or message of survival! This is manifested in a mysterious way! So I find this title appropriate! Despite knowing that big sales are not possible in any business world without advertising or marketing, I have not used any type of marketing or run any advertising to sell my book. In today's e-commerce world, it becomes mandatory to have reviews and ratings for any of your products if you want to grow your business tremendously. Fake reviews and ratings are also sold here. I stay away from all these things so if anyone tries to judge this book on all those criteria then I have to say sorry this book is not for you! I don't want to force sell my book to anyone and certainly not to someone whose consciousness is not developed to standard level, who is still under the influence of childish things of the business world like marketing, reviews, ratings and advertising. I just want this book to reach only deserving people! That's why I have stayed away from all these marketing matters. Anyway, the consciousness of the inner world of spirituality or any true artist has no special concern with the marketing world of materialistic business! The book begins with an outline of the deepest questions of human life. Then, there is a discussion on how incapable the human mind is of grasping the language of words and the meaning of sentences, syllables, and the depth of life. Thereafter, this book sheds light on the correct understanding of religion. Next, it explores the nature of the mind and how the mechanical system of the mind works. Once the scientific understanding of the mind is established, the book discusses how to cooperate with the mind to enter the upper dimension of consciousness through positive use of the mind. The concept of ego is then explored. The book examines how the ego manipulates the mind throughout one's life. After providing detailed information about the ego, the book presents ways to transform the ego into a state of ultimate surrender. Following that, the book explains the real purpose of life, which is the various aspects of love. It presents love stories, love poems, and other real facts about love. Additionally, it includes fictional dialogues to illustrate the divine love of Radha-Krishna. After covering these topics, the book discusses the difference between married life and real love, highlighting nature's tremendous sexual energy and providing insights into the positive use of sexual energy. The author then provides a comprehensive understanding of the path of spiritual meditation in contrast to love. It addresses the misconceptions about meditation in the world and explores the dimension of real meditation, which transcends the mind and leads to a void state beyond or above the mind. The term "yoga" is also associated with meditation today, but there is considerable confusion due to the mixing of wrong perceptions over time. The book attempts to provide a correct explanation of yoga. The book explores the dimensions and patterns of opposite energies in meditation and love. Although they may appear completely opposite, one path represents male energy through meditation, while the other path represents female energy through love. The book explains why the opposite of yin-yang is not truly opposite. Towards the end of the book, the meaning of life is examined in relation to an unpredictable and purposeless approach. The book offers insights into this aspect. When one becomes completely immersed in meditation or love, merging with the flow of the entire energy of existence, the laws of eternity undergo radical changes. They start acting in opposite and mysterious ways. The book describes this phenomenon and provides an example of Kabir's 'Ultbansi' statements. Moreover, the book contains many unknown and mysterious contradictions. It acknowledges that it is impossible to summarize all of them briefly.

It has been suggested that 'spirituality' has become a word that 'can define an era'. Why? Because paradoxically, alongside a decline in traditional religious affiliations, the growing interest in spirituality and the use of the word in a variety of contexts is a striking aspect of contemporary western cultures. Indeed, spirituality is sometimes contrasted attractively with religion, although this is problematic and implies that religion is essentially dogma, moralism, institutions, buildings, and hierarchies. The notion of spirituality expresses the fact that many people are driven by goals that concern more than material satisfaction. Broadly, it refers to the deepest values and sense of meaning by which people seek to live. Sometimes these values are conventionally religious. Sometimes they are associated with what is understood as 'the sacred' in a broader sense - that is, of ultimate rather than merely instrumental importance. This Very Short Introduction, written by one of the most eminent scholars and writers on spirituality, explores the historical foundations of the thought and considers how it came to have the significance it is developing today. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. A cutting-edge examination of feelings, not thoughts, as the gateway to understanding consciousness • Contends that emotion is the greatest influence on personality development • Offers a new perspective on immunity, stress, and psychosomatic conditions • Explains how emotion is key to understanding out-of-body experience, apparitions, and other anomalous perceptions Contemporary science holds that the brain rules the body and generates all our feelings and perceptions. Michael Jawer and Dr. Marc Micozzi disagree. They contend that it is our feelings that underlie our conscious selves and determine what we think and how we conduct our lives. The less consciousness we have of our emotional being, the more physical disturbances we are likely to have--from ailments such as migraines, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and post-traumatic stress to anomalous perceptions such as apparitions and involuntary out-of-body experiences. Using the latest scientific research on immunity, sensation, stress, cognition, and emotional expression, the authors demonstrate that the way we process our feelings provides a key to who is most likely to experience these phenomena and why. They explain that emotion is a portal into the world of extraordinary perception, and they provide the studies that validate the science behind telepathic dreams, poltergeists, and ESP. The Spiritual Anatomy of Emotion challenges the prevailing belief that the brain must necessarily rule the body. Far from being by-products of neurochemistry, the authors show that emotions are the key vehicle by which we can understand ourselves and our interactions with the world around us as well as our most intriguing--and perennially baffling--experiences.

There is a value in seeing how spiritual awakening and being human meet in an ordinary Life, in relationship with our partners, kids, families and friends, with our busy lives, in illness, transitions, death, careers and in every area of our lives. This book is a call to awakening and embracing and transforming our humanity. It is a radical guide to spiritual awakening in the modern world. Not written from the monastery or ashram, but from someone who has lived in the pain of samsara, from someone who after years of seeking and meditation found surrender in the depths of pain, while life was falling apart around him.Craig Holliday is both a nondual teacher and a therapist. He teaches in a way that instructs us to not run from life, but to face life head on through embracing every moment as it is. Through this absolute embracing, we are given the gift of discovering that our Beauty-our innate Divinity is right here within us; that our very humanity is the doorway to our freedom. Craig has spent 20 years intensely seeking, meditating and studying with some of the world's greatest nondual teachers. Beyond his spiritual training, he has also bridged the gap between eastern spirituality and western psychotherapy. After years of trying to transcend his humanity through meditation and spirituality, his search brought him to the study of psychology and the emphasis on working with our humanity instead of simply trying to transcend it. Through this combined work of psychology and nondual spirituality, Craig offers a seamless transmission of nondual spirituality which fully acknowledges our humanity and our overwhelming Beauty and Divinity. His work is dedicated to the discovery of our innate Divinity in every aspect of our lives. He works in a way that addresses our everyday human suffering as a doorway to our inherent freedom. Craig offers Satsang, workshops, retreats and meets with individuals from around the world via Skype. For more information about Craig visit: craigholliday.comFrom the Author: If you want to learn from a Guru or master or saint go elsewhere; I am simply a normal ordinary human who has struggled with life, who has been pulled in every direction and who failed totally at life; and yet, this failure lead to a deep surrender to Reality.. From this place of surrender, I write about the ineffable. If you want to examine with me, what it means to be awake and how to work with a huge amount of karma and egoic conditioning-read on. If you want to know how to work with repetitive difficult emotions, with anxiety and pain, with a career, kids and relationships read on. If you want to examine what life before, during and after awakening is; what enlightenment is beyond ancient mythological or a dogmatic understandings read on. If you are compelled to examine with me, what it means to be human and Divine-not in some philosophical sense, but in the context of a down to earth awakened practicality. What follows are a collection of reflections, teachings, writings, and personal experiences written over the period of many years that weave together what this radical shift called Awakening is. Life is ever unfolding, ever changing and the divine expression of our humanity is never fully worked out. Yet, if we want to be fully free, we must be willing to love and embrace all of life, even our very own egoic nature, which paradoxically is the Divine as well. No aspect of Life is outside of Divinity. Many books are written from a perspective of impersonal Enlightenment. I wanted to share both the impersonal and personal, because that is what it is like to be human, whether we are a Buddha or someone lost in pain and suffering, we all have some degree of a personal egoic nature. It is important to include both our humanity and our Divinity; we have denied one or the other for ages, but both are God. This work is an effort to create a deep understanding of what it is like to be human and awake. Join me in this exploration...

Spirituality has an indispensable role to play in the expression of our humanity. However, spiritual practices can sometimes make us less, not more, authentically human. We may be good Christians, but we aren't good human beings. How can we ensure that our spiritual journey is conducted in a way that allows us to become fully alive and deeply human? David Benner has spent thirty-five years integrating psychology and spirituality. Here he presents an expansive, psychologically informed understanding of spirituality, probing the contrasts between soulful and soulless spirituality, deep and shallow religion, and healthy and unhealthy relationships with God to affirm the vital role of human development in the spiritual journey. Benner then suggests soulful practices for cultivating the Christian spiritual life. This book will appeal to readers seeking depth and substance in their quest for authentic spirituality. It will also be a helpful resource for mental health professionals and spiritual directors. Reflection questions and exercises for individual or group use are included at the end of each chapter.d

The spiritual life depends on self-recollection and detachment from the rush of life; it depends on facing frankly the thought of death; it is signalized, especially, by the identification of self with others, even of the guiltless with the guilty. Spirituality is sometimes spoken of as if it were a kind of moral luxury, a work of supererogation, a token of fastidiousness and over-refinement. It is nothing of the sort. Spirituality is simply morality carried to its farthest bounds; it is not an airy bauble of the fancy, it is of "the tough fibre of the human heart." Felix Adler (1884 - 1963) was an accomplished American screenwriter whose career spanned over 30 years. He is best known for his work with the Three Stooges.

"This book is overflowing with kindness, insight, depth and above all...love." - Katherine Woodward Thomas: New York Times Bestselling Author of Calling in "The One"If you are interested in deepening your emotional awareness and in developing your emotional intelligence in ways that enhance conscious co-creative living, then this book is for you. It is a drop of peace in the ocean of our busy lives. Do you understand the role that your emotions play in your capacity for free will and conscious living? Are you interested in the power of conscious choice?Do you feel as though you are in charge of the decisions that you make in your life, of navigating your own journey? Designed to be read in just 10-15 minutes a day for 7 days, this deeply philosophical and highly transformational book guides readers through a 7-day journey of emotional discovery and expanding spiritual relatedness. Each day, practical and pragmatic suggestions integrated with emotional insight deepen our understanding and awareness of the way in which empathy sits in relationship with spirituality and emotional intelligence, supporting us in enriching the quality of our personal well-being, our relationships and our everyday lives. Our emotions sit at the core of our ability to build successful, healthy relationships in all areas of our lives. They play a key role in our self-development and in our ability to navigate our lives through conscious choice and conscious intention. Empathy isn't simply a listening ear and something that we can offer others. In essence, true empathy is a state of being; a way of living that opens a pathway of spiritual relatedness with life itself. Spiritual empathy transforms our ability to relate with our full experience of life at a level of mindful and conscious awareness; awareness of ourselves, of others, and awareness of a greater, universal intelligence of which we are an integral and dynamic part. This is the first in a series of books about the intelligence of our emotions, each written to support and enable deepening layers of relational growth and understanding. Florence invites readers on a journey of self-discovery, beautifully combining conceptual knowledge of emotional intelligence with practical and pragmatic application. The format of the book is deliberate. Its bite-sized chapters make it accessible, easy to read and translatable into a kind of emotional toolkit that can pragmatically help to integrate emotional awareness into daily living in ways that will enhance all aspects of who we are and who we wish to become. Drawing on her extensive 25 year career as a therapist, Jenny Florence's books are a journey of self-awareness, connecting the intelligence and creative capacity of our mind with emotional knowledge and understanding. She has a unique ability to talk about the complexities of our mind and emotions in a language that is accessible and without jargon. "We cannot change our past but we can change our relationship to our past. In doing so, we create change within our present, which changes the shape of our future. If we work on the premise that we are the source of change, it becomes clear that we will need to listen to ourselves without fear or judgment." Our emotions are a powerful, human commodity. They can be our strongest, most supportive ally or they can disable us, leaving us feeling blocked, out of control and in pieces. Jenny believes it is our ability to listen and decide that will make the difference between a breakthrough or a break down.
