La mayoría de los psicólogos científicos y de los psicoterapeutas tienen como punto de partida convicciones filosóficas sin ser conscientes de ellas, ni de sus fundamentos. Durante veinticinco siglos, desde los tiempos de Platón y Aristóteles, fueron siempre filósofos los que investigaron las cuestiones y los problemas psicológicos. En 1879 Wilhelm Wundt y William James, tras años de dedicación a la Antropología y Psicología Filosófica, inauguraron la investigación científica en Psicología. Ambos integraban sus convicciones filosóficas y su quehacer de laboratorio. Pero posteriormente, la generalidad de los psicólogos que se dedicaron a la investigación científica obviaron plantearse la metateoría implicada en ella. El autor propone la conveniencia de que estos investigadores en Psicología sean conscientes de sus convicciones filosóficas inconscientes y que se pregunten por qué las consideran verdaderas. Como creador –junto con Ana Gimeno-Bayón- del modelo de la Psicoterapia Integradora Humanista, ofrece aquí una primera serie de presupuestos filosóficos implicados en dicho modelo. Sobre ellos ha podido identificar antecedentes en los filósofos ARISTÓTELES, DILTHEY, BERDIAEV, JASPERS, LANGER, CASSIRER, ZUBIRI, ORTEGA Y GASSET, CENCILLO, PÁNIKKAR, von BERTALANFFY, BUNGE, LAÍN ENTRALGO y TRESMONTANT. En otro volumen espera referirse a Bachelard, Bergson, Ferrater Mora, Husserl, W.James, Maréchal, Merleau-Ponty, Popper, Scheler, Solomon, Tomás de Aquino y Whitehead, Este libro espera aportar: a quienes practiquen el modelo, conciencia de la concepción del ser humano que implica; y a quienes son ajenos al mismo, preguntas sobre el trasfondo filosófico de su propio quehacer terapéutico.

This book studies the political role of the Chilean military during the years 1808-1826. Beginning with the fall of the Spanish monarchy to Napoleon in 1808 and ending immediately after the last royalist contingents were expelled from the island of Chiloé, it does not seek to give a full picture of the participation of military men on the battlefield but rather to interpret their involvement in local politics. In so doing, this book aims to make a contribution to the understanding of Chile's revolution of independence, as well as to discuss some of the most recent historiographical contributions on the role of the military in the creation of the Chilean republic. Although the focus is placed on the career and participation of Chilean revolutionary officers, this book also provides an overview of both the role of royalist armies and the influence of international events in Chile.

The critical issues concerning the development of a substantial and enduring democracy in Chile are those of strengthening civil society, democratizing the permanent institutions of the state, and building an economy geared to effectively satisfy human needs. In this book, the authors offer a critique of the Chilean transition and of the Aylwin electoral regime, analyzing the linkage between political compromises made prior to the civilians’ assumption of power and the choice of socioeconomic policy in the post-electoral period. They argue that the decisive factor underlying the Chilean transition is the contrast between the legal-political changes and socioeconomic and institutional continuities, a contrast that perpetuates the vast inequalities of wealth and power generated under Pinochet’s sixteen-year-old military dictatorship. They also challenge the myth of the “Chilean miracle ̳the purported success of neoliberal policies in promoting sustained growth and social justice—and therefore in laying the basis for long-term social harmony and enduring political stability.
