This book is about humanizing business. In contrast to the mainstream modern management and leadership literature, this book provides distinctly humane perspectives on business. The volume travels outside the world of business to explore what Humanities – such as Philosophy, History, Literature, Creative Arts, and Cultural Studies – can offer to business. Renowned scholars from different Humanities disciplines, as well as management researchers exploring the heritage of Humanities, convey what it actually means to make business more humane. The book strives to humanize business. It aims to show that it is not people who have to suppress their human feelings, aspirations, and beliefs when they are at their workplaces, but it is business itself that needs to be redefined by the human norms of human beings. Companies should care about their employees and other stakeholders letting them be themselves, i.e. be human, at work and beyond. The book will be of interest to management scholars across various business disciplines. It can also be used as teaching material in the classroom with MBA students, especially in Business Ethics, Business and Society, Sustainability, Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management and other management courses. The volume will also be of interest to scholars that work in different Humanities fields and whose interests span organizations, management, and business. Finally, many practitioners in the business world, especially those in managerial and leadership positions, will find the book both thought-provoking and useful for them as well. Humanizing Distance Learning written by Paul Emerich France and has been published by Corwin Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-13 with Education categories.

"In some ways, shouldn′t we always be teaching from a distance?" Paul France asks this not as pitch for distance learning. But because part of the reason distance learning has been so challenging, Paul asserts, is that we’re replicating long-standing practices that promote dependent learning in our students. Why not use this unique moment of time to reconnect with the true purpose of teaching: to help our students become liberated learners and free thinkers? The next logical step in teachers’ months-long distance learning "journey," Humanizing Distance Learning describes how to center humanity and equity in our process of reimagining learning. Even while teaching and learning miles apart through screens, you’ll discover how to Build independence within your students so they’re better equipped to tackle challenges with persistence and learn how to learn Make collaboration and human connection essential components of your pedagogy, offering students the chance to socialize and learn from one another Center and unpack students’ identities, helping them develop a conscious knowledge of themselves, all the while using their self-identified strengths to overcome any obstacles Plan, prepare, and implement humanized instruction while teaching for student liberation—both digitally and in person. Investigate technology integration, including the Digital Divide, as well as ways to minimize EdTech integration so that our collective sense of humanity can continue to be front and center "The future," Paul writes, "may be unclear, the road may be rocky, and the story may continue to be long and winding as we push forward through this global crisis. But the answer will always be simple: We must teach and learn in pursuit of a deeper sense of collective humanity—and for no other reason." "This book is equal parts visionary and practical, courageous and invitational. It addresses foundational needs and wrenching challenges teachers faced during the recent time when U.S. teachers abruptly found themselves teaching remotely. . . . It is a deeply humanizing book." ~Carol Ann Tomlinson, William Clay Parrish, Jr. Professor Emeritus, University of Virginia "Humanizing Distance Learning is a book for our times not only because it addresses how to build a culture of thinking and teach for understanding at a distance, but also because it challenges the status quo of education by offering a more liberated and humane vision." ~Ron Ritchhart, Senior Research Associate, Harvard Graduate School of Education "Paul France has produced a timely and necessary book that will help educators humanize distance learning. Recognizing incredible dimensions of complexity, this book will surely help educators traverse times of uncertainty in distance learning." ~H. Richard Milner IV, Cornelius Vanderbilt Chair of Education, Vanderbilt University

The Digital Challenge written by Oskar Gruenwald and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-12 with categories.

This 32nd JIS thematic volume on "The Digital Challenge" explores the promises and pitfalls of digital technologies and their impact on individuals, society, and culture. We live in an era of computerization of everyday life. Automation pervades all aspects of work and leisure, from the shop floor to education and dating services, with limitless possibilities for instant communication via smartphones, the Internet, social media. Is humanity becoming overly dependent on machines? Book's thesis: Future of humanity may well depend on scientists and humanists' willingness and ability to bridge C. P. Snow's famous The Two Cultures conceptual divide in order to humanize technology and promote individual fulfillment and social felicity in the global village. In 2020, U.S. higher education is grappling with novel challenges due to the coronavirus pandemic. Michael Meagher chronicles an educator's journey from classroom to online instruction, while Corine Sutherland describes the ethical challenges of online-learning which include positives for college students obtaining an education long-distance, and negatives such as novel opportunities for cheating. Sutherland draws on Isaac Asimov's rules for robots, adapting them as ethical codes for students. Indeed, the ethical dimension looms large in humanizing digital technologies. Martin Yina examines the continuing digital divide between developed and developing countries like Nigeria. This inter- and intra-societal digital divide was noted already in 2002 by the Pontifical Council for Social Communications' Ethics in Internet. Bruce Lundberg's "The Virtues of Leonhard Euler," a famous eighteenth-century mathematician, concludes that: "As ethics enable and embody an ethos, so technologies are means and manifestations of a telos. Thus, thought and action for thriving through the digital needs to contemplate and conciliate the ends of humans and of the digital." Daniel Topf's Judeo-Christian anchoring of the self in the intrinsic worth and dignity of human beings contrasts with Yuval Noah Harare's claim that automation and robotics--machines-could replace humans. Milo? Dokulil probes Kurt Gödel's religious worldview, with a Response by Daniel Hollis. Special Section: George Seaver's study of Harvard University, 1969-2019, examines costs and benefits of "diversity" and "social justice." Book stresses Judeo-Christian moral and spiritual values for rethinking the digital challenge.

Mental illness stigma is rooted in a perceived lack of agency, but stigma itself undermines agency. While most philosophical accounts of the matter are concerned with the question of how much agency a person with mental illness has, this book asks how we can enhance the agency of people with mental illness. Humanizing Mental Illness explains and explores these connections, arguing that all of us can and should adjust our social practices to enhance the agency of people with mental illness. This agency is complicated and nuanced, as it is often directly constrained due to a person's symptoms and indirectly constrained due to stigma. Abigail Gosselin, both a scholar in the field of social philosophy and a person with a psychiatric disability, illustrates the importance of social interaction for developing and exercising agency. By overcoming mental illness stigma and by adopting certain epistemic and moral virtues, we can interact with people who have mental illness in ways that help enhance their agency and enable them to flourish. Humanizing Mental Illness demonstrates that we need to challenge our explicit and implicit biases and learn to interact with mental illness in more intentional, supportive, and inclusive ways.
