Ao contrário do que afirma a tradição aristotélica acerca do risível, o humor se realiza sem o rebaixamento e, no lugar da zombaria, institui a dor. É o que se verá presente no transe em outros autores aqui estudados. Sendo o riso um instrumento de crítica, a reflexão promovida pelo humor diante da situação cômica conduziria ao conhecimento catastrófico das causas que levaram o ser ao ridículo. Justifica-se, assim, a melancolia que se projeta do humor, que congrega o cômico e o trágico em uma mesma realização de caráter híbrido, capaz de representar tensões de um universo degradado, em ruína. Sob esse aspecto, a ambivalência do humor pode ser representada pelo transe , como fica bastante evidente em Hilda Hilst no jogo humor/escracho/dor, em João Gilberto Noll, na extrema solidão ruinosa dos revolucionários, no pastiche/ironia fina em Sérgio Sant’Anna, no telurismo e nos labirintos da marginalidade periférica em Bernadette Lyra e no erotismo e no humor maldito de Waldo Motta. Além, a análise de Ó, de Nuno Ramos, nos aspectos do transe , no tema da morte e no excesso/falha de comunicação entre os homens. A cada capítulo as análises mostrarão as peculiaridades de cada obra/autor/recepção. É fato que o trabalho de pesquisa não é capaz de se esquivar da subjetividade, principalmente quando se considera que a escolha do objeto de estudo parte, em grande medida, de opções individuais. Na definição do conjunto de obras que compõem este trabalho, foram considerados textos de caráter exemplar do ponto de vista da congregação de traços capazes de definir diferentes aspectos do transe na Literatura Brasileira e Portuguesa contemporâneas. Os ensaios presentes nesta obra mostram, por meio de categorias diversas, que o humor não é o cômico, embora parta de sua realização para se concretizar.
