At the end of the nineteenth century, Theodore Roosevelt, T. S. Van Dyke, and other elite men began describing their big-game hunting as “manly sport with the rifle.” They also began writing about their experiences, publishing hundreds of narratives of hunting and adventure in the popular press (and creating a new literary genre in the process). But why did so many of these big-game hunters publish? What was writing actually doing for them, and what did it do for readers? In exploring these questions, The Hunter Elite reveals new connections among hunting narratives, publishing, and the American conservation movement. Beginning in the 1880s these prolific hunter-writers told readers that big-game hunting was a test of self-restraint and “manly virtues,” and that it was not about violence. They also opposed their sportsmanlike hunting to the slaughtering of game by British imperialists, even as they hunted across North America and throughout the British Empire. Their references to Americanism and manliness appealed to traditional values, but they used very modern publishing technologies to sell their stories, and by 1900 they were reaching hundreds of thousands of readers every month. When hunter-writers took up conservation as a cause, they used that reach to rally popular support for the national parks and for legislation that restricted hunting in the US, Canada, and Newfoundland. The Hunter Elite is the first book to explore both the international nature of American hunting during this period and the essential contributions of hunting narratives and the publishing industry to the North American conservation movement.

Kevin was a hard worker. He never allowed anyone to give him anything he didn't earn. It's just how he was raised. Well, something was given to him that he didn't deserve, accidentally. But it's not something that can be given back: Power. Magical Power. Kevin was given the last vial in existence of a Magical solution. More like it smashed into him. There's just one problem: he's human. Humans aren't supposed to know about the Magical world. Why's that? Because humans can't do Magic. Period. Oh, don't get the wrong idea; Earth knows about Magic. But only in the form of stories. Kevin is about to be rudely introduced to it, and in a painful way. He will also learn that Earth isn't alone, but Earth will never find out. There is a whole galaxy out there with other worlds that use Magic to travel. Though the worlds are inhabited by those creatures we read about in stories. Such as Werewolves, Vampires, Beasts, Changelings, Fairies, and even Goblins to name a few. But some are still on Earth, if you look hard enough. Though as a human, you might not want to do that. There's no such thing as spaceships going across the stars. It's all done by Magical means as Kevin is about to find out. His new trainer, Marrisa, is a no-nonsense kind of gal, with ears and a tail, who doesn't take crap from anyone. Except, she is about to find that Kevin doesn't take kindly to her attitude. But it seems that bounty hunters all have chips on their shoulders, and Marrisa's chip is the size of a barn. Can they work together, or will Kevin have to ditch her and find someone else to train him? No one wants to work with Marrisa, but her bosses are telling her that Kevin's her problem now. Join the pair as they try to figure out how not to kill each other. And watch the sparks fly between them, especially when a fellow female bounty hunter has a thing for Kevin!

Set in the 1980s near Yakutat, Alaska, Hunter's Paradise: The Homecoming is the story of the Bootans, owners of a sixty-thousand-acre outfitter and ranch, Paradise. Paradise is a land of splendor with virgin forests, lakes, and streams filled with the abundance of wildlife. The head of the family is the tough and hardened but godly man, former Marine Master Gunnery Sergeant John Bootan. He and his business partner, Dan Lupa, are professional hunting guides. They book fly-in clients from the United States and other countries for Alaskan big game hunting and fishing. John's outfitter team includes four nephews, their wives, a niece, and hired help. Whether their story takes you to the war scenes of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, the dangers of big game hunting, or the lost romances of their past, their courage and spirit exemplify the heart of a true American Christian family. In The Homecoming a thirteen-year tribulation continues involving John's oldest nephew Brandon. An emotionally torn veteran, who lost his most precious possessions before his Vietnam trauma: His faith in God, his wife to be, Marcy Lamore, and his dignity as a man. In a desperate search for a meaning and purpose in life, he is fostered by the sage wisdom of his Uncle John and the devoted love of his younger brother Bud. However, Bud's recent marriage to Elaine Petry is a threat to Brandon, fearing that she has taken Bud away from him. In their homecoming to Paradise, a clash between husband and wife, between brother and brother, and between sister-in-law and brother-in-law unfold. To save his family from destruction, Brandon seeks refuge at Little Splendor, land also owned by the Bootans. Months later after leaving Paradise, Brandon learns of a hunting disaster involving Bud and quickly joins his family for a search and rescue. It becomes a long journey back home for the Bootans as they struggle with the natural elements, their fellow man, and ultimately with themselves.

Forty Four Years Of The Life Of A Hunter written by Meshach Browning and has been published by Pantianos Classics this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1859 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Meshach Browning spent decades as a professional hunter and trapper of bears, boars and deer in rural Maryland during the early 1800s - this is his story, in his own words. Born in modest circumstances, Browning grew up at a time when the United States as a nation was in its infancy, with much of the population living in rural areas. From his youth, the author vowed to be self-sufficient, leaving his home and first love to hone his abilities as a hunter. Returning with money gained from selling pelts and meat, it is then that Meshach contemplates hunting as a career. The equipment used by the author is much inferior to that of the modern day. Meshach's use of a musket - a gun whose reliability is demonstrated as poor in several instances - leads him to rely on his skills in close quarters combat. On multiple hunts, described with stunning vividness in these pages, Browning's ability to battle animals in melee saves his life. The dangers of his trade are balanced by its lucrativeness: bear meat and pelt for instance fetched high prices on the open market. Though his life's work is the primary subject, Meshach Browning shows a tender side when describing his first marriage; his loving wife Mary bore him several children. In later chapters, he proudly teaches his sons the craft which sustained their family for so many years.

The aim of the CEEMAS conference series is to provide a biennial forum for the presentation of multi-agent research and development results. With its p- ticular geographicalorientation towards Central and Eastern Europe, CEEMAS has become an internationally recognised event with participants from all over the world. After the successful CEEMAS conferences in St. Petersburg (1999), Cracow (2001) and Prague (2003), the 2005 CEEMAS conference takes place in Budapest. The programme committee of the conference series consists of est- lished researchers from the region and renowned international colleagues, sh- ing the prominent rank of CEEMAS among the leading events in multi-agent systems. In the very competitive ?eld of agent oriented conferences and workshops nowadays(suchasAAMAS,WI/IAT,EUMAS,CIA,MATES)thespecialpro?le of CEEMAS is that it is trying to bridge the gap between applied research achievements and theoretical research activities. Our ambition is to provide a forum for presenting theoretical research with an evident application potential, implemented application prototypes and their properties, as well as industrial case studies of successful (but also unsuccessful) agent technology deployments. This is why the CEEMAS proceedings volume provides a collection of research and application papers. The technical research paper section of the proceedings (see pages 11–499) contains pure research papers as well as research results in application settings while the application papers section (see pages 500–530) contains papers focused on application aspects. The goal is to demonstrate the real life value and commercial reality of multi-agent systems as well as to foster communication between academia and industry in this ?eld.
