While there were many gunmakers from Perry County, little was known about these makers until 1969 when Roy Chandler and Don Mitchell published a limited-edition work - 300 copies - on Perry County Gunmakers. In doing so, the Chandler and Mitchell book became the definitive resource on an important and integral part of Perry County's development. During the final years of his life, Roy Chandler exhorted the author to update his 1969 work and further unwrap the history of these frontier manufacturers.
