Numerical calculations are inevitably required in the field of hydrogeology and play a significant role in dealing with its various aspects. As often as not, students are seen struggling while solving numerical problems based on hydrogeology, as they find difficulty in identifying the correct concept behind the problem and the formula that can be applied to it. Also, there is a dearth of books, which help the readers in solving numerical problems of varied difficulty level and enable them to have a firm grounding in the subject of hydrogeology. The book Hydrogeology: Problems with Solutions fills this void in the finest way, and as desired, chiefly focuses on the sequential steps involved in solving the problems based on hydrogeology. It concisely covers the fundamental concepts, advanced principles and applications of hydrogeological tasks rather than overemphasising the theoretical aspects. The text comprises sixty solved hydrogeological problems, which are logically organised into ten chapters, including hydrological cycle, morphometric analysis, hydrological properties, groundwater flow, well hydraulics, well design and construction, groundwater management, seawater intrusion, groundwater exploration and groundwater quality. The practice of pedagogy of hydrogeology in yesteryears was a two-tier approach of theoretical principles with toy problems and in-situ case studies for research start-up. This book bridges the gap between routine problem-solving and state-of-the-practice for future. The book is primarily intended for the undergraduate and postgraduate students of Earth Sciences, Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Hydrogeology and Hydrology. It also serves as an excellent handy reference for all professionals.KEY FEATURES • Key Concept succinctly explores the models, methods and theoretical concepts related to each problem. • Necessary equations and formulae are specified. • Appendices and Glossary are included, leaving no scope to refer any other book. • Bibliography broadens the scope of the book.

Groundwater issues have generated worldwide concern in recent decades. The problems are numerous: too little groundwater, too much groundwater, groundwater contaminated by either saline water or a broad spectrum of industrial and domestic pollutants. Many urban groundwater problems are not unique to any one region, which is the thinking behind this book. Many of the case studies presented here have never before been described in English. Overall, the papers represent the work and experience of researchers and groundwater professionals who have worked on urban groundwater issues in developed and less-developed nations around the world. They reveal the magnitude and scope of the problem as well as identify future challenges, potential courses of action, and emerging technologies that offer hope for the future.

Applied Mathematics In Hydrogeology written by Tien-Chang Lee and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-12-10 with Science categories.
As introduced in Dr. Lee's 10-week class, Applied Mathematics in Hydrogeology is written for professionals and graduate students who have a keen interest in the application of mathematics in hydrogeology. Its first seven chapters cover analytical solutions for problems commonly encountered in the study of quantitative hydrogeology, while the final three chapters focus on solving linear simultaneous equations, finite element analysis, and inversion for parameter determination. Dr. Lee provides various equation-solving methods that are of interest to hydrogeologists, geophysicists, soil scientists, and civil engineers, as well as applied physicists and mathematicians. In the classroom, this same information will help students realize how familiar equations in hydrogeology are derived-an important step toward development of a student's own mathematical models. Unlike other applied mathematics books that are structured according to systematic methodology, Applied Mathematics in Hydrogeology emphasizes equation-solving methods according to topics. Hydrogeological problems and governing differential equations are introduced, including hydraulic responses to pumping in confined and unconfined aquifers, as well as transport of heat and solute in flowing groundwater.

Coupling the basics of hygrogeology with analytical and numerical modeling methods, Hydrogeology and Groundwater Modeling, Second Edition provides detailed coverage of both theory and practice. Written by a leading hydrogeologist who has consulted for industry and environmental agencies and taught at major universities around the world, this unique book fills a gap in the groundwater hydrogeology literature. With more than 40 real-world examples, the book is a source for clear, easy-to-understand, and step-by-step quantitative groundwater evaluation and contaminant fate and transport analysis, from basic laboratory determination to complex analytical calculations and computer modeling. It provides more than 400 drawings, graphs, and photographs, and a variety of useful tables of all key groundwater parameters, as well as lucid, straightforward answers to common hydrogeological problems. Reflecting nearly ten years of new scholarship since the publication of the bestselling first edition, this second edition is wider in focus with added and updated examples, figures, and problems, yet still provides information in the author's trademark, user-friendly style. No other book offers such carefully selected examples and clear, elegantly explained solutions. The inclusion of step-by-step solutions to real problems builds a knowledge base for understanding and solving groundwater issues.

Scale Problems In Hydrology written by V.K. Gupta and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1986-08-31 with Science categories.
A special workshop on scale problems in hydrology was held at Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey, during October 31-November 3, 1984. This workshop was the second in a series on this general topic. The proceedings of the first workshop, held in Caracas, Venezuela, in January 1982, appeared in the Journal of Hydrology (Volume 65:1/3, 1983). This book contains the papers presented at the second workshop. The scale problems in hydrology and other geophysical sciences stem from the recognition that the mathematical relationships describing a physical phenomenon are mostly scale dependent in the sense that different relationships manifest at different space-time scales. The broad scientific problem then is to identify and for mulate suitable relationships at the scales of practical interest, test them experimen tally and seek consistent analytical connections between these relationships and those known at other scales. For example, the current hydrologic theories of evaporation, infiltration, subsurface water transport and water sediment transport overland and in channels etc. derive mostly from laboratory experiments and therefore generally apply at "small" space-time scales. A rigorous extrapolation of these theories to large spatial and temporal basin scales, as mandated by practical considerations, appears very difficult. Consequently, analytical formulations of suitable hydrologic theories at basin wide space-time scales and their experimental verification is currently being perceived to be an exciting and challenging area of scientific research in hydrology. In order to successfully meet these challenges in the future, this series of workshops was initiated.

This text focuses particularly on the growing interest in hydrodynamic principles of the study of underground waters, new methods of eco-based hydrogeodynamic analysis, and the estimation of the quantity of infiltration water transfer. The author also discusses aspects of mass transfer by subsurface water flow in the light of molecular kinetics, and examines a new apporach to investigating the slow movements of groundwater at the deep zones of the hydrolithosphere.
