The Hymnarium presents hymns for the major and minor hours for Sundays and weekdays throughout the year, the Proper of Time, the Proper of Saints (including proper hymns for many Dominican saints), and the Common of Saints. The texts of the Hymnarium are derived from the Breviarium O.P. of 1952 and the Irish Dominican Breviary of 1967. Each hymn is provided in Latin and English versions set to a limited variety of chant melodies that are reused on various occasions throughout the book. Each verse is set to a chant melody, while also providing indications for singing the texts to metrical hymn melodies. The limited yet balanced number of melodies allows the repertoire to be easily learned and used, while still offering a rich variety that avoids monotony. The hymns contained in the Hymnarium belong to the musical patrimony of the Order, having been authored or compiled by friars over the course of centuries.

Dies Buch ist keine vollständige Hymnensammlung; ich habe nur einige der schönsten Hymnen aus dem Schatz der katholischen Kirche übertragen. Dabei kopiere ich nicht immer das Metrum der Originale. Auf Reime verzichte ich, da das Lateinische viel reimfreudiger ist als das Deutsche und eine Kopie des Reimschemas oft gezwungen klingt. Zwei der hier vorgestellten Werke sind keine Hymnen, keine Preislieder, - das 24. Lied der Carmina Burana handelt von der Hinfälligkeit der Welt, und Omnis mundi creatura des Alanus ab Insulis beschreibt die Vergänglichkeit des Menschen. Beide Lieder beinhalten die Aufforderung zu einem christlichen, von materiellen Werten unbeeindruckten Leben. Ich habe sie aufgenommen, weil ich auch hierin eine Form des Gotteslobes sehe - und weil ich sie schön finde und sonst nicht weiß, wohin damit. Das mittelalterliche Latein wurde anders geschrieben als das klassische; so wurden æ und œ zu e, t und c vor hellen Vokalen zu z. Die klassische Schreibweise ist aber seit der Renaissance wieder üblich und wird (leider) auch im Brevier und im Graduale angewandt. Dadurch ist sie vielen Lateinkundigen weit geläufiger als die Schreibweise der Originale, und so habe ich sie widerwillig übernommen. Die Doxologien am Ende einiger Hymnen sind spätere Zutaten; ich habe die Doxologien nur dort übernommen, wo sie vermutlich schon im Original verwendet wurden. Ich habe im übrigen bei allen Hymnen versucht, spätere Textabwei-chungen zu vermeiden, habe aber weder die Fähigkeit noch die Zeit, hier noch größere Pingelei aufzuwenden als bei Wortwahl und Metrum meiner Übertragungen. Nach den vielen lateinischen Hymnen bilden den Abschluss dieser Sammlung drei Gesänge in neueren Sprachen. Zu Wort kommen die Kirchenlehrer Alfonso Maria de Liguori und Thérèse de Lisieux sowie eine fast unbekannte Autorin des 19. Jhs., C. Maude Battersby.

Stündlich wurde berichtet, in welchen Bezirken Großkatzen und Bisons gesichtet worden waren. Teltowkanal, Spree und Havel wurden zu Gefahrenzonen erklärt wegen der Krokodile und Alligatoren. Ein Sprecher von Greenpeace äußerte sich bestürzt und prognostizierte verheerende Folgen für die Fischpopulation. Die blieben allerdings aus; bisher fügen sich die Gäste gut ins Ökosystem ein.

In the 19th century Hungary witnessed unprecedented social, economic and cultural development. The country became an equal partner within the Dual Monarchy when the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867 was concluded. Architecture and all forms of design flourished as never before. A distinctly Central European taste emerged, in which the artistic presence of the German-speaking lands was augmented by the influence of France and England. As this process unfolded, attempts were made to find a uniquely Hungarian form, based on motifs borrowed from peasant art as well as real (or fictitious) historical antecedents. "Motherland and Progress" – the motto of 19th-century Hungarian reformers – reflected the programme embraced by the country in its drive to define its identity and shape its future.

The textual heritage of Medieval Latin is one of the greatest reservoirs of human culture. Repertories list more than 16,000 authors from about 20 modern countries. Until now, there has been no introduction to this world in its full geographical extension. Forty contributors fill this gap by adopting a new perspective, making available to specialists (but also to the interested public) new materials and insights. The project presents an overview of Medieval (and post-medieval) Latin Literatures as a global phenomenon including both Europe and extra-European regions. It serves as an introduction to medieval Latin's complex and multi-layered culture, whose attraction has been underestimated until now. Traditional overviews mostly flatten specificities, yet in many countries medieval Latin literature is still studied with reference to the local history. Thus the first section presents 20 regional surveys, including chapters on authors and works of Latin Literature in Eastern, Central and Northern Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas. Subsequent chapters highlight shared patterns of circulation, adaptation, and exchange, and underline the appeal of medieval intermediality, as evidenced in manuscripts, maps, scientific treatises and iconotexts, and its performativity in narrations, theatre, sermons and music. The last section deals with literary “interfaces,” that is motifs or characters that exemplify the double-sided or the long-term transformations of medieval Latin mythologemes in vernacular culture, both early modern and modern, such as the legends about King Arthur, Faust, and Hamlet.
