Tartakower’s Legendary Magnum Opus The decade after the First World War was one of exciting change for the royal game. A new wave of dynamic chess was taking shape, led by the young lions Alekhine, Réti, Nimzowitsch, Breyer, Euwe, Tartakower and others. They were successfully asserting their new ideas against the Old Guard. It was in this period that Savielly Tartakower’s magnificent work Die Hypermoderne Schachpartie was first released. A massive tome of over 500 densely packed pages, the first edition was published in German in 1924. It was an instant best-seller and a second edition soon followed with corrections and additional material. At first glance, it appears to be an opening manual with incredibly comprehensive notes. But in fact it is much more. There are essays on strategy, tactics, endings, history and other chess-related topics, all presented in Tartakower’s wonderful writing style. However, don’t be fooled by the witty aphorisms and humor. The scope and depth of Tartakower’s annotations would be unmatched until Chess Informant came along in the 1960s. And the rise of the silicon monsters notwithstanding, there is much fertile opening theory to be found and explored. The Hypermodern Game of Chess is the first English-language work of the second edition. Several hundred diagrams have been added and some reformatting of the text has been done to meet the expectations of 21st century readers. In every other respect, it preserves all the comprehensive content. The Hypermodern Game of Chess is now available in English. See why it has inspired generations of chessplayers. And see why Tartakower’s magnum opus is, as they say, the stuff of legend...

How To Win With Hypermodern Chess Strategy written by Raymond Keene and has been published by Hardinge Simpole Limited this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-11-01 with Games categories.

In the 1920's the hypermodern school - primarily Nimzowitsch, Reti, Tartakower, Breyer and Gr]nfeld - introduced strategies which relied for their impact on fianchettoed bishops and a delayed assault on the centre. Perhaps the most provocative of the new openings was Alekhine's defence 1e4 Nf6 which positively encouraged a huge white pawn centre to lumber forwards and then self destruct. In their treatise the authors - between them responsible for 200 books on chess - outline and explain these theories and show how they remain valid as point scorers to the present day. Originally published as Winning with the Hypermodern.

Aron Nimzovich was one of the strongest players of chess in the world and was definitely the strongest writer about chess in the world. His books "My System," Chess Praxis" and "Die Blockade" have been studied at an early age by virtually every strong chess player in the world. Nimzovich was Russian Champion in 1913 jointly with Alexander Alekhine at St.Petersburg. He won a string of international events in the mid-1920s which led him to challenge Jose Raul Capablanca to a World Championship match in 1925, but negotiations failed after monetary backing could not be found. He took first place at Copenhagen (1923), Dresden (1926), Karlsbad (1929) and Frankfurt (1930). He is credited with being one of the principal inventors and developers of the Hypermodern School of Chess. The Hypermodern idea is to allow the opponent to occupy the center and then chip aware at it from the sides until it collapses. Nimzovitch is credited with inventing the Queen's Indian Defense and the Nimzo-Indian Defense, two of the most popular defenses played at the world championship level today. There are many opening and variations named after Nimzovich.
