Hypnagogia written by Andreas Mavromatis and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-02-23 with Hypnagogia categories.

Dr Mavromatis argues that this common, naturally occuring state may not only be distinct from wakefulness and sleep but unique in its nature and function, possibly carrying important evolutionary implications. He explores and analyzes the relationship between hypnagogia and other states, processes and experiences - such as sleepdreams, meditation, psi, schizophrenia, creativity, hypnosis, hallucinogenic drug-induced states, eidetic phenomena and epileptic states - and shows that, functioning in hypnagogia, we may gain knowledge of aspects of our mental nature which constitute fundamental underpinnings to all human thought. In addition functioning in hypnagogia is shown to play a significant part in mental and physical health.

After a long career as a psychotherapist and scholarly writer, Adam Crabtree gathers together the principle threads of his view of the meaning of human life. He describes his life-long search for the means to explore human depth. His approach is unique in that he uses narrative to explore the twilight world of hypnagogic experiences as he has experienced them. He does not claim to have answers, but only his own personal experiences to serve as specimens of what one day may become a science of the world of hynagogia. He claims that hypnagogic experiences are our most direct access to the true depths of human persons and the formation of human meaning. The book has three main parts. In the first, he describes the nature of hypnagogic experiences and provides many personal examples. In the second part, He tells the story of how a book moth had burrowed into his writings and felt compelled to take the time to lecure him on the failures in his career. The third part describes his encounters with Friedrich Nietzsche at a well on his property and descends into the depths of the inner human abyss. The book is completed with an examination of the fears that have kept the human community from allowing an adequate exploration of those depths, and a call for a radical shift in language and attitude in this fundamental voyage of discovery.

Delving into the semi-waking-semi-sleeping twilight world that one experiences when falling asleep, the author begins with a look at hypnagogic myoclonus-the muscle twitches experienced when one is drifting off to sleep, and Exploding Head Syndrome-loud noises and other brain sensations on falling asleep. The mental phenomena of hypnagogic vocalizations and imagery, dreamlets, and lucid dreaming are discussed, along with hypnopompic phenomena, such as Stuck Dreams and Hypnopompic Tripping. The world of sleeping dreams is dissected by looking at the dreaming mind's use of Familiarity, Context, Forgetfulness, and Ignoring to fool the dreamer. Ideas about Recurring Situational Themes and the dreamer's self-identifying age are introduced. Finally, the author presents his ideas on waking hallucinations and presents some famous fiction authors' writings on hypnagogia.

A premonition, and something is wrong. The collective is ill at ease. As to why an individual can't fall asleep, there is no answer. With exhaustion, mounting, the individual retreats, inward, for guidance. For a time there is charm, until it wilts beside the stair, a stair whose steep beholds the shadow of a monster. Whatever will our individual do?

Synopsis This book tells about the author's personal experience with subjective phenomena of the human mind and consciousness, with special emphasis on phenomena perceived at the threshold of sleep and wakefulness, known as hypnopompic and hypnogogic experiences (or in short "hypnagogia"), which she considers quite special, as it will allow a person to maintain awareness, or lucidity, while the physical body falls asleep, therefore having the chance to explore out-of-body experiences and lucid dreams. However, it is not all about out-of-body experiences or lucid dreams, as she tells about her personal experiences from her involvement with esoteric philosophy and the Brazilian spiritism, and discusses several special issues from the development of her knowledge on other subjects, like for example remote viewing, starting with her involvement with the Society for Scientific Exploration where she met with the first explorers and the initiators of remote viewing research. The author also improved her knowledge of the mind through her involvement with neuroscience, as well as psychological theories of cognition, and research on memory and learning. Her personal experiences also lead her to study the literature on the subject of bio-energetic phenomena (the so-called Kundalini phenomena) and other interesting areas that address the subjective phenomena of the mind in many forms. One important subject discussed is that of "sleep paralysis," which can produce problematic hypnagogias. In fact she has published a scientific paper, along with Jean-Christophe Terrillon, on recurrent sleep paralysis, which has been widely referred in the literature on this subject, after its publication by the Journal of Scientific Exploration in 2001. This paper is included in the book as an appendix, due to its importance in helping people suffering from this condition. Finally, this book assesses the present panorama with personal subjective experiences in general, which the author strongly believes may produce important developments in the understanding of the mind and consciousness in general, consequently increasing the possibility of experiencing the worlds beyond the physical, or beyond death.

A Secret History Of Consciousness written by Gary Lachman and has been published by SteinerBooks this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

For the last four centuries, science has tried to account for everything in terms of atoms and molecules and the physical laws they adhere to. Recently, this effort was extended to try to include the inner world of human beings. Gary Lachman argues that this view of consciousness is misguided and unfounded. He points to another approach to the study and exploration of consciousness that erupted into public awareness in the late 1800s. In this "secret history of consciousness," consciousness is seen not as a result of neurons and molecules, but as responsible for them; meaning is not imported from the outer world, but rather creates it. In this view, consciousness is a living, evolving presence whose development can be traced through different historical periods, and which evolves along a path to a broader, more expansive state. What that consciousness may be like and how it may be achieved is a major concern of this book . Lachman concentrates on the period since the late 1800s, when Madame Blavatsky first brought the secret history out into the open. As this history unfolds, we encounter the ideas of many modern thinkers, from esotericists like P. D. Ouspensky, Rudolf Steiner, and Colin Wilson to more mainstream philosophers like Henri Bergson, William James, Owen Barfield and the psychologist Andreas Mavromatis. Two little known but important thinkers play a major role in his synthesis--Jurij Moskvitin, who showed how our consciousness relates to the mechanisms of perception and to the external world, and Jean Gebser, who presented perhaps the most impressive case for the evolution of consciousness. An important contribution to the study of consciousness ... a must-read. Contents: Foreword by Colin Wilson Introduction: Consciousness Explained The Search for Cosmic Consciousness Esoteric Evolution The Archaeology of Consciousness Participatory Epistemology The Presence of Origin Last Words: Playing for Time Selected Bibliography "A marvelously exhilarating gallop through every important modern theory of consciousness, from Steiner to Maslow, from Bucke's 'cosmic consciousness' to Gebser's 'integral consciousness.'"--Colin Wilson, author of The Outsider and Access to Inner Worlds "Opens up vast vistas of possibility, suggesting that what we experience as the earth may, in itself, be inseparable from our state of mind, and that the evolution of human consciousness may be as fundamental a process as our development through genetics. A must-read for those seeking an escape from our contemporary culture's cul-de-sac."--Daniel Pinchbeck, author of Breaking Open the Head "Thinking outside the box, Lachman challenges many contemporary theories by reinserting a sense of the spiritual back into the discussion. Profoundly erudite, yet easy to read, this book is a provocative mind-stretcher."--Leonard Shlain author of Art & Physics, Alphabet versus the Goddess, and Sex, Time & Power.
