I hope this book will enlighten others of the magnitude of sexual abuse of children in our society. The perversions that are heaped upon our children are the most grotesque acts of cowardice imaginable. Our children are innocent of such perversions, and are victims of Cruel, deviant cowards. Who only care about their gratifications? I will go into my life experiences, and what contributed to my foul deviancy. I will go in depth into the grooming that pedophiles use on children to gain their trust, and the manipulations to keep them quiet, through guilt and threats of harm.

Jane had a pretty good life. She was a single mother, and she worked hard for her three kids. Then she met someone she believed to be the man of her dreams, handsome, gentle, quiet, and kind. Eleven months later, they were married. Soon, her daughter, Michelle began to change; she became distant and withdrawn. Something was wrong, but Jane couldn't figure out what it was. She never thought to look at her husband as being the cause her daughter's moodiness or imagine that it might be somehow related to sexual abuse. Her husband-a young, handsome man with a nine-to-five job, an ex-wife and kids of his own-was nothing like her image of a pedophile.

In the wake of recent violence our nation has experienced, and the paranoia that has ensued, we've directed our attention to potential terrorists in our midst. Yet our children face more risk from people they know than from terrorists they have never met. An estimated one in five girls and one in ten boys in the United States experience some form of sexual abuse by age eighteen. What could possibly motivate a person to molest a child? Not Monsters documents the stories of nine convicted child molesters through one-on-one interviews, listening to what offenders have to say about their crimes and exploring the roots of these behaviors from a social constructionist perspective. Their words paint a compelling and frightening portrait of how sexual abuse works in Western culture to perpetuate a political and social system of dominance and control.

Cruel Attachments written by John Borneman and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-03-10 with Family & Relationships categories.

Child molesters are widely regarded as the most incorrigible of criminal types, as recidivists who deserve harsh punishment. In Germany today, however, attention has shifted from punishment to court-mandated rehabilitation through therapy. Therapists guide the offender through a process normally assigned to a religious authoritythe transformation of the criminal into a person capable of reintegration into society. "Cruel Attachments" is anthropologist John Borneman s account of the attempt to rehabilitate child sex offenders through therapy. Using select case studies, Borneman follows the experience of offenders from accusation to admission of culpability, through arrest, trial, imprisonment, treatment, release from prison, and either social reincorporation or indefinite surveillance. The book opens with an absorbing and disturbing ethnography of a particularly important (and sensational) case of the rehabilitation of the infamous Berlin sex offender Alexander Marquardt. Marquardt was a child abuser and brutal pimp who underwent rehabilitation therapy during his long imprisonment. During his therapy it was discovered that he had been sexually abused by his mother over several years starting when he was pre-pubescent. After his lengthy and ultimately successful rehabilitation Marquardt was released and is now a successful owner and manager of a fitness center. Borneman s vivid account of Marquardt addresses the controversial question of whether such therapy really works in the sense of changing a person s deepest desires. The subsequent case histories and theory chapters range from general reflections on the historical evolution of cultural handling of child sexual abuse to cases of incest, pedophilia, inappropriate sex play between parents and children, among others. This is the first book ever on the topic of the intensely ambiguous and fraught project of attempted rehabilitation of perpetrators and what that project tells us about ourselves and our culture s contradictions. No other book has combined that focus with a larger meditation on the state of anthropology, as "Cruel Attachments" so beautifully does."
