In our previous story "I Am Malcolm X" we saw Malcolm go into the new. Seeking something undescribed, this innocent character leapt through the crescent and did in fact enter the light and felt the wonderment of life in a world that had not existed before. When our friend left his comfort zone he was unaware that he had left something in his wake. He left behind a well paved road of courage which was soon to be followed by Mick-a-Mick. Mick-a-Mick is a little girl mouse who we will find gazing through the exit looking from dark to light overwhelmed with excitement. This eagerness is the thrust, however the lift is the search for the truth and benevolence in the unknown, the worth of courage in an unidentified arena --- she is looking for Malcolm X--- It's On Now.

I wrote a play and needed it edited. So, not knowing what to do, I went online and contacted Susan Austin at American Association of Community Theatre (AACT). Ms Austin was more than polite and told me she knew of someone who might read over my material. Thinking, hmm, I wrote a play, imagine my shock when I was advised, I not only didn’t have a play written I should go to school to learn writing. Forward I went, enrolling in an English composition course @ Atlantic City Community College, Professor, Nina Washington. In spite of my delusion I learned. When the course was complete I wrote” I am Malcolm X” for the professor as a token of thanks and appreciation. That was that, as they say. Well, two months later I was reading the preface of “The Strange Case of Dr. Jeykl and Mr. Hyde” by Robert Louis Stevenson. Mr. Stevenson’s wife, while editing his prose, notated that he was writing an allegory, not a narrative. I didn’t know what allegory meant so I researched the word and lo’ and behold for the first time in my life I saw—“Plato’s Allegory of the Cave”. Needless to say, by doing as AACT suggested, I accidently mimicked Plato with a story about a man I feel would have united the black community and perhaps others had he been able to relate what he found in the light. This Book Is Dedicated To: Joseph P Campbell (Pop)

Muhammad Ali and Howard Cosell were must-see TV long before that phrase became ubiquitous. Individually interesting, together they were mesmerizing. They were profoundly different -- young and old, black and white, a Muslim and a Jew, Ali barely literate and Cosell an editor of his university's law review. Yet they had in common forces that made them unforgettable: Both were, above all, performers who covered up their deep personal insecurities by demanding -- loudly and often -- public acclaim. Theirs was an extraordinary alliance that produced drama, comedy, controversy, and a mutual respect that helped shape both men's lives. Dave Kindred -- uniquely equipped to tell the Ali-Cosell story after a decades-long intimate working relationship with both men -- re-creates their unlikely connection in ways never before attempted. From their first meeting in 1962 through Ali's controversial conversion to Islam and refusal to be inducted into the U.S. Army (the right for him to do both was publicly defended by Cosell), Kindred explores both the heroics that created the men's upward trajectories and the demons that brought them to sadness in their later lives. Kindred draws on his experiences with Ali and Cosell, fresh reporting, and interviews with scores of key personalities -- including the families of both. In the process, Kindred breaks new ground in our understanding of these two unique men. The book presents Ali not as a mythological character but as a man in whole, and it shows Cosell not in caricature but in faithful scale. With vivid scenes, poignant dialogue, and new interpretations of historical events, this is a biography that is novelistically engrossing -- a richly evocative portrait of the friendship that shaped two giants and changed sports and television forever.

Speeches from the last year of Malcolm X's life through which readers can follow the evolution of his views on racism, U.S. intervention in the Congo and Vietnam, capitalism, socialism, political action, and more. "To understand this remarkable man, one must turn to Malcolm X Speaks.… All but one of the speeches were made in those last eight tumultuous months of his life after his break with the Black Muslims when he was seeking a new path. In their pages one can begin to understand his power as a speaker and to see, more clearly than in the Autobiography [of Malcolm X], the political legacy he left his people in its struggle for full emancipation … [This book] will have a permanent place in the literature of the Afro-American struggle."-I.F. Stone in New York Review of Books"Formidably articulate, especially in terms of international political analysis…. [W]hat made Malcolm X dangerous-in the eyes and ears of the Federal Bureau of Investigation-was his cogent critique of not just violent white racism, but of U.S. imperialism, and his ability to connect both practices."-Globe and Mail, CanadaForeword, eight-page photo section, index.

This biography, though it covers his early life and adulthood, focusses most prominently on Malcolm X's final years, which were largely dominated by his departure from the Nation of Islam and his conflict with Elijah Muhammad. Throughout, the author addresses a number of lingering issues, including the role of fellow prisoner John Elton Bembry in Malcolm's prison conversion; whether Malcolm decided to leave the Nation of Islam before he was suspended by Elijah Muhammad; whether he was seeking martyrdom; and the extent of the role that government agencies played in Malcolm X's assassination in 1965.

Celebrate Black History Month and discover the remarkable relationship between Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X, and how their bond affected the movement for Black pride and independence in the 1960s in this nonfiction book for young readers. ★ "From Civil Rights to Black Pride and Black Lives Matter, there isn’t one social justice movement that these two men haven’t impacted. Purchase for all American history shelves." —SLJ, starred review Freshly adapted for young readers, this in-depth portrait showcases the complex bond between Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X, revealing how Malcolm helped mold Cassius Clay into Muhammad Ali and influenced his rise as an international symbol of Black pride and Black independence. Yet when Malcolm was expelled from the Nation of Islam for criticizing the conduct of its leader, Elijah Muhammad, Ali turned his back on Malcolm, a choice that some believe tragically contributed to the minister's assassination in February 1965. Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X is the story of how Ali redefined what it means to be a Black athlete in America, informed by Malcolm's leadership. An extraordinary portrait of love, friendship, and power as well as deceit and betrayal, here is a window into the public and private lives of two national icons, and the tumultuous period in the American Civil Rights Movement that they helped to shape.

ONE OF TIME’S TEN MOST IMPORTANT NONFICTION BOOKS OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY In the searing pages of this classic autobiography, originally published in 1964, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and anti-integrationist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Black Muslim movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American Dream, and the inherent racism in a society that denies its nonwhite citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time. The Autobiography of Malcolm X stands as the definitive statement of a movement and a man whose work was never completed but whose message is timeless. It is essential reading for anyone who wants to understand America. Praise for The Autobiography of Malcolm X “Extraordinary . . . a brilliant, painful, important book.”—The New York Times “This book will have a permanent place in the literature of the Afro-American struggle.”—I. F. Stone
