La comparsa dell’arma aerea sui campi di battaglia impose agli Stati Maggiori di trovare con la massima urgenza le contromisure per affrontare in modo efficacie la nuova minaccia. Il Regio Esercito istituì il 1° luglio 1923, all’interno dell’Arma del Genio, il Servizio Chimico Militare. E all’interno dello stesso, tra i battaglioni specialistici costituiti e addestrati dal Reggimento Chimico vi erano i battaglioni nebbiogeni. Il compito dei reparti appartenenti ai battaglioni nebbiogeni, era quello di oscurare l’obiettivo alla vista degli equipaggi degli aerei nemici, inviati ad effettuare azioni di bombardamento, con la formazione di una nebbia artificiale. I Reparti nebbiogeni vennero inizialmente schierati nelle immediate vicinanze degli obiettivi sensibili, estendendo successivamente la loro dislocazione in profondità, anche di chilometri, intorno all’area da proteggere, a causa dell’aumentata intensità e precisione dell’offensiva aerea. Fra i più famosi vi furono i reparti inviati nella zona del Baltico presso gli alleati tedeschi.

The appearance of the air weapon on the battlefields required major states to find with the utmost urgency countermeasures to deal effectively with the new threat. The Royal Army established on July 1, 1923, within the Engineer Corps, the Military Chemical Service. And within the same, among the specialized battalions established and trained by the Chemical Regiment were the fog battalions. The task of the units belonging to the fog battalions, was to obscure the target from the view of the crews of enemy aircraft, sent to carry out bombing actions, by the formation of an artificial fog. Fog Units were initially deployed in the immediate vicinity of sensitive targets, later extending their deployment in depth, even kilometers, around the area to be protected, due to the increased intensity and precision of the air offensive. Among the most famous were the reparts sent to the Baltic area at the German allies.

Una Repubblica Sociale, fra i tanti libri sull’argomento, è forse quello che meno di tutti ha l’ambizione di entrare nella storiografia, non avendo pretese scientifiche ma, non per questo, manca di quell’ansia di verità, di quel bisogno di giustizia che, in quasi un settantennio, gli ultimi protagonisti di quell’avventura si attendono. Inutilmente. Ed è proprio per questa continuata detenzione morale, in cui anche l’autore si sente ristretto, che il libro rimane nella sua dimensione particolare dalla quale non è capace di liberarsi. Il libro non ha quindi la pretesa di una ricostruzione storica, cronologicamente ordinata, ma vuole essere piuttosto una miscellanea di avvenimenti in cui predomina l’elemento di valore umano, che è quello che più conta per l’autore. Tuttavia nel libro si ritrovano elementi di rilevanza storica e politica che non trovano ascolto per l’altrui sordità. Bruno Tomasich è nato nel 1929 a Cesena (FC); ha vissuto a Venezia, Verona, Padova, Napoli (ove si è laureato in chimica industriale), poi ancora in Veneto e infine a Roma, dove ha diretto un’industria chimica. È vedovo e padre di sei figli. Durante la seconda guerra mondiale, a 15 anni, ha militato nelle formazioni giovanili della Repubblica Sociale Italiana. In pensione, iscrittosi alla Facoltà di Scienze Biologiche della Sapienza di Roma si è laureato nel 2002 con lode. In morte della figlia Rossella, ha scritto: Rossella l’anima e il corpo dalla vita alla morte, pubblicato da Albatros. After gaining independence in 1917, Finland fell into a three-month civil war, at the end of which the front formed by republicans, conservatives and monarchists put socialist and communist opponents to flight. Thus began the constitution of the Finnish Army (Suomen Armeija), based on conscription and, unfortunately, poorly armed. The Finnish Armored Corps can trace its origin back to 1919, when the Tank Regiment was formed on July 15, with FT-17 tanks. Between the First and Second World Wars, the Finnish army made an effort to modernize its armored forces, acquiring assets from abroad and reorganizing its structure several times. The Finnish armored units took part in 3 major conflicts: the Winter War (1939-40), the Continuation War (1941-1944) and the Lapland War (1944-45).

Volume 1: Turkish Army uniforms in the Crimean War Period, and Volume 2, which covers the Turkish Navy, the Contingents, Additional Cavalry Units and the Romanian Army, both acknowledge as its key source of information, the research by Charles A. Norman, a well-known British military artist and researcher. Norman’s work transliterated original observations, illustrations and notes made by two Crimean War Commentators: Joseph-Emile Vanson, and Constantin Guys. Constantin Guys was a reporter, and illustrator for The Illustrated London News, and in 1854 was assigned to the Crimea to produce drawings of wartime scenes which could be turned into engravings for news. Constantin Guys documented various Turkish uniforms, with his description of each scene, written in English on the back of the drawing or below it. The approach taken in this volume has been to overlay Norman’s original interpretations, combining this with other period written descriptions, illustrations, paintings, and photographs taken at the time, hopefully getting a closer interpretation of the Turkish Army uniforms seen in the Crimea. Many of the library and museum collections provide a significant amount of information. However, much of this is not accurately dated. The dating of these often slip by two or three years, and up to a decade earlier or later. The illustrations presented in both volumes are based on this combination of materials.
