I Didn’t Know That Was Stealing! was written to provide insight for teachers and students, whether doer or victim, into the unsuitable actions that center on stealing something of value legitimately belonging to others, i.e. intangibles rather than objects or money. Those intangibles may be undisrupted study time, cheating or copying test answers, respect for teachers and authority, the theft of a person’s peace and dignity by bullying, etc. The story’s object lesson is that self centered actions which negatively affect the quality of education or life of other students are akin to the theft of items a student would see as valuable. Most children understand that stealing is unacceptable, knowing someone or having experienced the pain, loss, and anger of having been stolen from themselves. Those feelings provide the opening for their understanding of the concept portrayed in I Didn’t Know That Was Stealing! I Didn’t Know That Was Stealing! is meant to create a venue for awareness, discussion, remediation, and reinforcement of considerate, respectful behavior by students toward their classmates.

“STEALING HOME” tells the story of 13-year-old William Martin, a child born in a white middle class family in Kansas City in 1958 when segregation was prevalent. After William’s tolerant father discovers that peer pressure has given William a prejudice worldview, maliciously believing everything he has ever heard about black people, Mr. Martin brings home a black orphan, Alex, hoping that getting to know Alex will remedy it. The two teenagers strike up an unlikely friendship. William’s life takes an unexpected turn when he and his mischievous friend, Robert, scheme to sneak Alex into a public segregated pool where Alex ends up saving a girl from drowning. William and Alex’s friendship is challenged when William’s prized possession, his baseball signed for him by the New York Yankees, turns up missing when Alex leaves his home. Alex is suspected of the theft and William finds his prejudiced feelings once again reinforced. He becomes a detective to find out the truth. Nowhere in the story is the “N” word used. The climax consists of a G-rated fight with Alex saving his white friends through his Judo training.

Stolen written by Russell Roberts and has been published by McFarland this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-01-01 with Sports & Recreation categories.

The stolen base is one of the most fascinating plays in all of sports. In no other sport is the opportunity present for the offense to literally take away what belongs to the defense. In other sports it is the ball (or puck) that must do the scoring; in baseball, however, it is the runner, and base stealing is the runner's greatest weapon. Not just ball games but entire World Series have turned on a steal. This book traces the history of the stolen base and stealing in the major leagues from its humble beginnings through its current status as an indispensable part of a team's offense. Also covered are the players who were synonymous with base stealing: Ty Cobb, Luis Aparicio, Maury Wills, Lou Brock, Rickey Henderson, and others. The most memorable steals in baseball history are also recalled.
