Can you solve the case called "I Loathe a Parade"? Here's the scenario: This 4th of July murder mystery takes place in Elmtown, a community of 12,000 people noted for its annual Independence Day parade. Mayor Joe Possumz, who's just announced that he'll be running for his fourth term in the fall elections, is in the reviewing stand, waving at the parade while wearing his now-famous, red-white-and-blue bowtie. As the final drum-and-bugle corps passes by, the mayor bites into a hot dog coated with traditional brown mustard and topped off with a dark-green dill pickle. When he finishes the culinary treat, Possumz wipes the perspiration off his brow, smiles faintly at the crowd and collapses. To the amazement of those nearby, the local doctor rushes to him, checks for a pulse, and pronounces him dead. More about the Elmtown parade: Twelve years ago, when Mayor Possumz was first elected to office, the Elmtown parade was a ten-minute affair, consisting of four units and a lot of fire trucks. With the mayor's backing, the parade has become a holiday extravaganza. The 80-plus units in the parade now take two hours to pass by the official civic reviewing stand, strategically positioned in front of City Hall where the mayor gazes with pride at the event that he has built and nurtured. But, any politician is only as secure as his last controversial decision ... and the mayor has made many enemies over the years. Could one of them have done him in as he was enjoying the latest version of his most noteworthy accomplishment? The suspects . . . Rhonda Ripley - Owner of Horsebalm Stables She and her team of riders have been fixtures in the parade for the last 10 years. Rocky the Clown - A favorite with the kids of Elmtown Behind the greasepaint is alderman Rockwell Kenmore, who planned on running against the mayor in the upcoming election. Mona Minski - Head of the Elmtown "Marching Mommas" Every 4th of July, she relives her cheerleading days at Elmtown High School by marching in the parade and leading cheers all the way down Elm Street. Albert Ames - Leader of the Elmtown Civic Band He plays the piccolo and is renowned for his solo in "Stars and Stripes Forever." Albert knows when anything in Elmtown is off-key. Dottie Pinewood - Cubmaster of Cub Scout Pack 1776 She takes pride in winning the annual prize for best float in the 4th of July parade. Vern Fullerton - The part-time weatherman at the local TV station, WORM He was the grand marshal in the parade, riding in a vintage Model A Ford. ------------------------------------------------- This complete Murder Mystery Party Kit from Mysteries on the Net contains everything you need to host you own event at home or in a large facility. This was the first time I felt as involved in film as in working in theatre. My immersion in Parade’s End from the writing to the finishing touches took up the time I might have given to writing my own play but, perhaps to an unwarranted degree, I think of this Parade’s End as mine, such was the illusion of proprietorship over Ford’s characters and story. —Tom Stoppard, from the Introduction Tom Stoppard’s BBC / HBO dramatization of Ford Madox Ford’s masterwork takes a prominent place in the ranks of his oeuvre. Parade's End is the reinvention of a masterwork of modernist English literature produced by one of the most critically acclaimed and respected writers working today. Parade’s End is the story of Christopher Tietjens, the “last Tory,” his beautiful, disconcerting wife Sylvia, and the virginal young suffragette Valentine Wannop: an upper class love triangle before and during the Great War. Parade's End is a three-part drama, directed by the BAFTA-winning Susanna White, and featuring internationally renowned actors including Benedict Cumberbatch, Rebecca Hall, and Adelaide Clemens. This edition includes bonus scenes which were not broadcast, an introductory essay by Stoppard, and a selection of stills from the production as well as photographs taken on location.

Parade S End Part One Some Do Not written by Ford Madox Ford and has been published by Read Books Ltd this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-03-05 with Fiction categories.

This early work by Ford Madox Ford was originally published in 1924 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introduction. This is part one of Ford's hugely successful Parade's End tetralogy that has now been adapted into a BBC television drama. Ford Madox Ford was born Ford Madox Hueffer in Merton, Surrey, England on 17th December 1873. The creative arts ran in his family - Hueffer's grandfather, Ford Madox Brown, was a well-known painter, and his German émigré father was music critic of The Times - and after a brief dalliance with music composition, the young Hueffer began to write. Although Hueffer never attended university, during his early twenties he moved through many intellectual circles, and would later talk of the influence that the "Middle Victorian, tumultuously bearded Great" - men such as John Ruskin and Thomas Carlyle - exerted on him. In 1908, Hueffer founded the English Review, and over the next 15 months published Thomas Hardy, H. G. Wells, Joseph Conrad, Henry James, John Galsworthy and W. B. Yeats, and gave débuts to many authors, including D. H. Lawrence and Norman Douglas. Hueffer's editorship consolidated the classic canon of early modernist literature, and saw him earn a reputation as of one of the century's greatest literary editors. Ford continued to write through the thirties, producing fiction, non-fiction, and two volumes of autobiography: Return to Yesterday (1931) and It was the Nightingale (1933). In his last years, he taught literature at the Olivet College in Michigan. Ford died on 26th June 1939 in Deauville, France, at the age of 65.

Never Surrender written by Robert Kershaw and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-09-03 with History categories.

In Never Surrender Robert Kershaw captures the authentic voices of the ordinary heroes of the Second World War, from the soldiers fighting abroad to those battling on the home front, and creates an extraordinary portrait of a generation fighting for survival. Beginning with first-hand accounts of the reaction to Chamberlain's declaration of war in 1939, Kershaw portrays the many aspects of war through the words of those who were there, from the sailors of the little ships of Dunkirk to German soldiers preparing for Operation 'Sea Lion'. He takes us from the nightly horrors of the Blitz to battles in the limitless desert of North Africa, and from jungle war in Burma to Lancaster bombers over Germany and the beaches of Normandy. Featuring new interviews with veterans and civilians from Britain, the Commonwealth and Germany as well as diaries, letters, and first-hand accounts, this is a testimony to the remarkable men and women who lived through the Second World War -- whose refusal to surrender changed them, and Britain, forever.
