'It includes personal accounts of people who are involved in my life.' 'About their feelings and thoughts during your manic episodes?' 'Exactly.' 'That must be very confronting!' 'It is. Why don't you read it and find out.' Again, Pieter Overduin has written a very interesting book. He describes how he suffered from a manic episode after the publication of his first book, in which he believed himself to be Gandhi and God, respectively. The personal accounts of his family, friends and former colleagues also show the other side, how a manic-depressive's illness affects the people closest to him. To them, it feels like a life sentence as well. Just like he did with his first book I love myself... and the feeling is mutual, Pieter has written a fascinating and valuable work. It's written from the heart and very funny.

'Het heeft enige tijd geduurd maar dan heb je ook wat,' zegt Pieter lachend. Overduin heeft na zijn twee eerdere boeken een aantal jaren lezingen gegeven in binnen- en buitenland. 'Na verloop van tijd kreeg ik weer de ruimte om mij op het schrijven te richten,' aldus de auteur. 'Deze mogelijkheid heb ik met beide handen aangegrepen. Met als resultaat dit boek.' De titel van het boek luidt: 'Pennenstreken' en de ondertitel 'Voor elk wat wil(d)s'. Dit boek is een verzameling van veelal waargebeurde columns en (gênante) korte verhalen. Waarvan je als lezer denkt: mijn God, dit kan niet waar zijn. De niet-alledaagse verhalen worden afgewisseld door verhalen die tot nadenken zouden kunnen stemmen. Overduin slaagt er op uitzonderlijk wijze in om zijn verhalen met een paar streken van zijn pen neer te zetten. Zonder de persoon in kwestie bekend te maken en/of te beschadigen. En zonder ordinaire woorden te gebruiken, laat Pieter niets aan de verbeelding over. De typische 'Overduinstijl' wordt, na zijn vorige boeken, in 'Pennenstreken' vrolijk voortgezet. Hierbij valt onder andere te denken aan Pieters brede gevoel voor humor en zijn vermogen om te ontroeren.

De ervaringen die zijn familieleden, vrienden en oud-collega´s in dit boek beschrijven, laten ook de andere kant zien, wat het betekent voor de directe omgeving van iemand die manisch-depressief is. Ook zij hebben levenslang. Evenals met zijn eerste boek Ik houd van mijzelf... en dat is wederzijds heeft Pieter ook nu weer kans gezien een boeiend en waardevol document te schrijven. Zeer openhartig en met veel humor.
