In this delightful, heartfelt tribute to her home island, the author of the ''How To Live'' books focuses on Long Beach Island with a kind of illustrated love song / poem. After living through Superstorm Sandy, she celebrates beautiful and simple truths and emotions about this eighteen-mile long stretch of sand... ''because I think it is important to say what you love in this life... especially if what you love is vulnerable. And Long Beach Island is that. It's just a beautiful accident of tide and currents, a moment of grace amid storm.''

This book is a must read for all East Coast surfers who may have felt at sometime that they should apologize for where they are from. The stories and pictures in this book are sure to make the East Coast surfer proud, while sharing a universal story line with surfers all around the world. These stories could very well have taken place in Hawaii or California but, they didn't. The major theme is an eighteen-mile barrier island off the New Jersey coastline known as Long Beach Island (LBI). Every individual in this book is somehow connected to the island. Through a series of short stories from the 1930s to the 21st Century, you will be moved by what these individuals have accomplished in the surfing community as well as the "real world." Turn the pages to find out who is an innovator of snowboard technology; a photo editor for Surfer magazine; writer/producer of a Nickelodeon cartoon; and an award recipient from the president of the United States. Meet local surfing legends: Wimpy, Tinker, and Huckleberry. Find out what surfing pioneers did in the days before surfing wetsuits and wax. Travel around the world and through time for: Surfing in Vietnam during the Vietnam War; Running a surf hostile in Puerto Rico in the 1990s; Capturing storm surf on film for the last twenty years from all over the globe. Learn what unique surfing product came to a local surfer in a dream and how the internationally known franchise - Ron Jon Surf Shop, got its start on LBI. You're sure to enjoy the "Why We Surf" section with unedited material from our local surfers, ages fifteen to sixty-three. Hear about some of their most memorable surfing experiences and gain their deepest insights about this incredible sport and lifestyle. The book has over one hundred pictures from family collections, 60s surf magazines, and professional portfolios of some of the top surfing photographers. Surfing collectors will especially enjoy some of the vintage material. "Surfing the Web" will give you the links you need for everything from weather information to lodging on LBI. For those of you who are still learning about LBI, "Local Breaks" gives you the "low-down" about surfing conditions and even parking. There is something in Surfing LBI for surfers of every age and level of expertise. It's a "feel good" book that will leave you stoked every time you open it.

"The result is an important and horrifyingly thick anthology of mass murders...Highly difficult to read in one sitting, but we must not look away." —Kirkus Reviews A harrowing collection of sixty narratives—covering over fifty years of shootings in America—written by those most directly affected by school shootings: the survivors. “If I Don’t Make It, I Love You,” a text sent from inside a war zone. A text meant for Stacy Crescitelli, whose 15-year-old daughter, Sarah, was hiding in a closet fearing for her life in Parkland, Florida, in February of 2018, while a gunman sprayed her school with bullets, killing her friends, teachers, and coaches. This scene has become too familiar. We see the images, the children with trauma on their faces leaving their school in ropes, connected to one another with hands on shoulders, shaking, crying, and screaming. We mourn the dead. We bury children. We demand change. But we are met with inaction. So, we move forward, sadder and more jaded. But what about those who cannot move on? These are their stories. If I Don’t Make It, I Love You collects more than sixty narratives from school shooting survivors, family members, and community leaders covering fifty years of shootings in America, from the 1966 UT-Austin Tower shooting through May 2018’s Santa Fe shooting. Through this collection, editors Amye Archer and Loren Kleinman offer a vital contribution to the surging national dialogue on gun reform by elevating the voices of those most directly affected by school shootings: the survivors.

All New People is a slick, lively and contemporary comedy written by award-winning screenwriter and well-known actor Zach Braff. The dead of winter, Long Beach Island, New Jersey, Charlie, has hit rock bottom. Away from the rest of the world, this perfect escape is interrupted by a motley parade of misfits who show up and change his plans. A hired beauty, a fireman, and an eccentric British real estate agent desperately trying to stay in the country all suddenly find themselves tangled together in a beach house where the mood is anything but sunny. This pithy piece portrays a scenario of attempted suicide with mordant humour, where a basis of social alienation leads to unexpected connections. The richly-drawn characters are quick-witted and narcissistic yet self-aware and the dialogue is fluid and witty. All New People is centred around a clever concept which works as a catalyst for both angst-fuelled scrutiny and morbid humour.

Almost everyone at some point in their lives questions their faith and/or belief in God. Even the most learned religious scholars, ordained and lay readers and faith-based teachers admit to having doubt at times. The author wrestled with faith and a belief in God for many years but feels blessed to have experienced a series of life-changing events that opened his eyes, heart, and mind. Today he has absolutely no doubt in the existence of God and that there is an afterlife. A Spiritual Journey to Unwavering Faith is a multi-denominational and multi-dimensional book written for every reader regardless of their religious backgrounds or spiritual beliefs. It details the writer’s unique experiences, and the purpose in sharing his spiritual journey is to give those with doubt, a sense of comfort, peace, and hope. It also provides confirmation and inspiration to those who already have faith, and to hopefully strengthen their existing belief. The author’s spiritual journey began about a year before the passing of his father-in-law and continued to grow and become stronger with the passing of his father and mother. Each died in the author’s arms and as they took their last breaths, he asked them to please give him a sign or do whatever they could to confirm the existence of God and the afterlife. Literally moments after they each passed and many times since, each communicated with the author and provided profound signs that were personal connections known only between themselves. Initially the author viewed these After Death Communication (ADC) signs as sheer coincidences, but after experiencing a series of unique, strange, unexplainable encounters the writer finally realized he was witnessing events that went beyond the obvious or what could be identified by using his five key senses. Once he accepted the possibly a higher power was at work, he allowed his eyes, heart, and mind to be opened to a whole new world or realm. He also discovered the incredible power of prayer. During his research and the discovery process the author read many books that included historical mythology, afterlife experiences, spiritual enlightenment, faith, the Old and New Testaments of several different Bible translations, excerpts of the Koran, Divine interventions, and devotionals written by lay persons from around the world. He especially enjoyed reading devotionals from people of all walks of life who told their stories through essays that connected to specific scripture. Their personal experiences relating to selected scripture were genuine, insightful and deeply moving. The author found it interesting how philosophies and life recommendations quoted in so many modern day spiritual and self-help books and materials are rooted in scripture. As the author connected his own personal events to specific scriptures, he realized everything he was searching for was already compiled in one comprehensive best-selling book of all time … the Bible.

‘My parents were now dabbling with drugs and Southern Comfort, even going so far as to put a selection of hallucinogens into my bottle to witness the effects for their own amusement. I only know this because my mum made no attempt to hide it, often speaking openly about their experiments with my milk supply. Her only regret being the time she added a small amount of speed to my formula to see how long it would take me to fall asleep.’ Set in the UK and Ireland in the late 1970s and early 1980s, You Shot My Dog and I Love You, is a harrowing story of horrific physical and mental abuse inflicted on the author at the hands of his parents. In addition, the author's parents demanded that he assist them in their life of crime, go on the run in Europe to evade the law, and hide out in a caravan from the local police force. This is just some of the trauma that the author writes about. The story is intertwined with darkly comic elements to provide relief from the disturbing events of a tumultuous childhood. Due to the nature of the content You Shot My Dog and I Love You is written anonymously.

There are many places we can go to enjoy time with friends, to have an action-packed vacation, or to enjoy a little solitude, but none of them have the same ability to soothe our souls as the beach. Perhaps it's the magic portrayed by children building sand castles or the gentle sounds of lapping waves on the shore.
