No doubt there are people with mild dyslexia who can be taught to read and spell. Unfortunately there are others, myself included, who will never have adequate literacy skills. I still get told; "If I really tried to learn to read I could do it!" That makes me really mad. I have completed graduate and post graduate university courses and have four books with a total of 300,000 words in print. And I still cannot read or spell adequately without the aid of a computer. I hear people saying they 'were' dyslexic, that they found this or that remedy and the problem was fixed. That is fine for them but I will take my dyslexia to the grave. Thankfully though, text-to-speech technology came along in time for me. It has made it possible for me to research and write my books and to cope with life in a world dominated by the printed word.

Child protection and family support is a major social issue and there is a continuing debate about how policies and practices in relation to child protection integrate with those in family support and child welfare more generally. Prompted in part by the Audit Commission and the publication of the Department of Health Research studies in Child Protection, it is the key issue facing all child welfare agencies. While it is agreed that there needs to be a rebalancing between child protection and family support there is a real fear amongst managers and practitioners if things go wrong, subjecting them to public inquiry and media contempt. Child Protection and Family Support brings together a range of distinguished researchers and commentators to analyze the nature of the issue and possible ways forward. It draws on recent research case studies; policy makers, managers and practitioners in social work and child welfare agencies.

Wandering the Wards provides a detailed and unflinching ethnographic examination of life within the contemporary hospital. It reveals the institutional and ward cultures that inform the organisation and delivery of everyday care for one of the largest populations within them: people living with dementia who require urgent unscheduled hospital care. Drawing on five years of research embedded in acute wards in the UK, the authors follow people living with dementia through their admission, shadowing hospital staff as they interact with them during and across shifts. In a major contribution to the tradition of hospital ethnography, this book provides a valuable analysis of the organisation and delivery of routine care and everyday interactions at the bedside, which reveal the powerful continuities and durability of ward cultures of care and their impacts on people living with dementia. *Shortlisted for the Foundation for the Sociology of Health and Illness Book Prize 2021*

Stories From A Migrant City written by Ben Rogaly and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-03-30 with categories.

Nationalists and nativists often blame the figure of the immigrant 'other' for society's ills, contrasting this with the 'local' or 'native' whose livelihood and way of life are seen as under threat from immigration. Being at ease with difference is seen as the worldview of a cosmopolitan elite.Stories from a migrant city argues for an urgent transformation of how such terms are understood and deployed. Drawing on eight years of research in an English provincial city and a biographical approach to oral history, this book challenges the ways in which people have come to be seen as 'migrants' or 'locals' and understood to have opposing interests. Non-elite cosmopolitanism is shown to be alive and well, in spite of racism, the legacies of empire and the devastating effects of four decades of neoliberalism.
