Oscar De Santis, impegnato a salvare la sua relazione con la giornalista Patrizia Rocchi, non crede alle parole della scrittrice, fino a quando un secondo omicidio non viene scoperto nella chiesa di San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, e porta la firma dello stesso assassino che suo padre ha cercato di fermare. Con l’aiuto dell’amica d’infanzia e patologa Penelope D’Alessio, si metterà dunque all’inseguimento del killer, scoprendo che ha commesso gli stessi omicidi che la scrittrice ha descritto nel suo libro e che lo sta rileggendo al contrario, riuscendo così a restare sempre un passo avanti alle indagini. Quel messaggio in latino trovato nella bocca delle vittime lo porterà a incontrare nuovamente Sofie e a farsi raccontare ciò che lei conosce, i segreti che il padre ha cercato di celare con la sua morte. Turbato da questi dubbi, Oscar decide di scavare nella vita passata del genitore affidandosi gli indizi lasciati dall’assassino che è alla ricerca di altre vittime, di cui quella che non è riuscito a uccidere quarant’anni prima, una donna che porta in grembo il figlio nato dal peccato originale.

Papers presented at the Fifteenth International Conference on Patristic Studies held in Oxford 2007 (sse also Studia Patristica 44, 45, 46, 47 and 48). The successive sets of Studia Patristica contain papers delivered at the International Conferences on Patristic Studies, which meet for a week once every four years in Oxford; they are held under the aegis of the Theology Faculty of the University. Members of these conferences come from all over the world and most offer papers. These range over the whole field, both East and West, from the second century to a section on the Nachleben of the Fathers. The majority are short papers dealing with some small and manageable point; they raise and sometimes resolve questions about the authenticity of documents, dates of events, and such like, and some unveil new texts. Detention camps exceed the juridical concept of punishment and crime. This book comprises two parts: 1. a collected volume that discusses camps not as something of the past, but as a paradigmatic political space in which ordinary law is completely suspended, and 2. an Italian-English parallel text of the war diary of an Italian prisoner during his confinement at the Stalag X-B internment camp near Sandbostel from 1943–1945. 1. The Human Condition of Exception: Collected Essays Edited by Aisling Reid and Valentina Surace Written in Italian and English, the essays collected in this volume explore the issue of camps and suffering from various perspectives, including philosophical inquiry, literary analysis, historical description and legal assessment. As Agamben suggests, the camp embodies the state of exception. A dehumanising camp life will therefore emerge every time such a structure is created. What happens in camps exceeds the juridical concept of punishment, as well as that of crime. Prisoners are faced with a ‘useless’ pain (Levinas) as it is not the expiation of a fault. Prisoners attempt to describe their extreme suffering through their diaries. Their experience, however, cannot be entirely communicated. Even their screams, which express humanity at the extreme limit of its un-power, are silenced. Given the recent popularity of right-wing politics, as well as the centenary of Mussolini’s march on Rome, such research is more urgent than ever. The book will appeal to readers with an interest in philosophy as well as Irish history scholars studying internment during Partition and The Troubles in Northern Ireland. 2. Aldo Quarisa’s Diary: An Italian-English Edition Edited by Aisling Reid and Valentina Surace. Transcribed and with a preface by Galileo Sartor. Translation of the diary by Aisling Reid (Italian-English). In 1943, Aldo Quarisa worked at a military school in Florence, where he taught literature. In October of that year, one month after Italy had surrendered to the Allied forces, the Italians declared war on the Germans. In Florence, the German occupiers responded quickly, by arresting and deporting people with military connections to numerous concentration camps in Austria. Quite suddenly, Aldo was detained and deported through a network of camps, including Benjaminovo and the Stalag X-B internment camp, near the Austrian village of Sandbostel. For two years, he found himself imprisoned alongside other Italians, including the celebrated journalist Giovannino Guareschi, who secretly kept a diary that was later published as his Diario Clandestino 1943–1945 in 1946. Much like Guareschi, Aldo also kept a diary and excerpts are published here in both Italian and English for the first time. The diary describes in unprecedented detail the monotony of camp life, the cruelty of the guards and the prisoners’ struggle to survive. The text is an important document that preserves the memory and voices of all those who suffered during the war and will inevitably be of interest to readers with an interest in World War II.

The story of a teenager boy that leaves a small town in Basilicata to come to America. In the 70s, I think that a lot of young people dreamed to come to the United States of America, land of sky scrapers, endless prairies and fast foods, place where lots of my favorite actors and singers live, where Cowboys and Indians fought with each other (I love my Western movies). Hollywood makes you believe a reality that is not there, when you reach the land of opportunities you soon realize that money doesnt grow on trees. A message that I wanted to give to my readers is that sometimes you need to make hard decisions and to take responsibilities for your actions. Its not easy to do, but I did it when I left italy and also when I sat down to write this book. THIS IS MY STORY. Si fanno cose nella vita che richiedono spirito di avventura e forte dose di incoscienza. Questo e stato importante nel mio caso per essere Cittadino Di Due Mondi. La storia di un teenager che lascia il profondo Sud della Basilicata per emigrare negli States. Negli anni 70 penso che molti giovani sognavano di andare in America, terra di grattacieli, grande praterie e fast foods, paese dove molti cantanti e attori, che io adoro sono nati, dove Cowboys and Indiani fanno guerra (film Western che adoro). Hollywood ti crea una realta surreale di come lAmerica non e, si arriva qui e presto ti accorgi che ce poco di vero di quello che la televisione ti faceva credere e presto ti accorgi che i soldi non si trovono per terra, la realta e ben diversa. Un messaggio che voglio trasmettere con questo racconto e che a volte bisogna mettersi in gioco e assumersi le proprie responsabilita anche se non e facile. A me successe quando lasciai lItalia e quando ho deciso di scrivere questo libro. QUESTA E LA MIA STORIA.
