Awarded the Navy Cross for gallantry under fire, Staff Sergeant Jeremiah Workman is one of the Marine Corps’ best-known contemporary combat veterans. In this searing and inspiring memoir, he tells an unforgettable story of his service overseas–and of the emotional wars that continue to rage long after our fighting men come home. Raised in a tiny blue-collar town in Ohio, Jeremiah Workman was a handsome and athletic high achiever. Having excelled on the sporting field, he believed that the Marine Corps would be the perfect way to harness his physical and professional drives. In the Iraqi city of Fallujah in December 2004, Workman faced the challenge that would change his life. He and his platoon were searching for hidden caches of weapons and mopping up die-hard insurgent cells when they came upon a building in which a team of fanatical insurgents had their fellow Marines trapped. Leading repeated assaults on that building, Workman killed more than twenty of the enemy in a ferocious firefight that left three of his own men dead. But Workman’s most difficult fight lay ahead of him–in the battlefield of his mind. Burying his guilt about the deaths of his men, he returned stateside, where he was decorated for valor and then found himself assigned to the Marine base at Parris Island as a “Kill Hat”: a drill instructor with the least seniority and the most brutal responsibilities. He was instructed, only half in jest, to push his untested recruits to the brink of suicide. Haunted by the thought that he had failed his men overseas, Workman cracked, suffering a psychological breakdown in front of the men he was charged with leading and preparing for war. In Shadow of the Sword, a memoir that brilliantly captures both wartime courage and its lifelong consequences, Workman candidly reveals the ordeal of post-traumatic stress disorder: the therapy and drug treatments that deadened his mind even as they eased his pain, the overwhelming stress that pushed his marriage to the brink, and the confrontations with anger and self-blame that he had internalized for years. Having fought through the worst of his trials–and now the father of a young son–Workman has found not perfection or a panacea but a way to accommodate his traumas and to move forward toward hope, love, and reconciliation.

Prayers of A Child’s Heart, is a fun and exciting book for children! It expresses short stories from my childhood in the form of prayers. It is a dialog between me and God. You could say, I tell him everything! Yes, the good and the bad. Even though, I’ve never heard him say one word. His blood, grace, and spirit spoke volumes on my behalf. His manifestation in my life is proof enough that he heard me and continues to hear my prayers. I am a witness that God cares and answers prayers! I have many testimonies! Therefore, I say to you never think that your prayer is too odd, short, long, bothersome, or that it doesn’t matter, because it does. Please know you don’t have to pray according to anyone’s approval. In fact, you can go to God anytime of the day or night in your own way and believe that he hears and rewards those who earnestly seek him with a favorable yes, no, or wait. I am grateful that he is my Heavenly Father and he believes in me! In the absence of my biological father, he has been there for me all the days of my life. Yes, I make mistakes too, but thanks to my Savior Jesus Christ, He’s always there to help me overcome! Prayers of A Child’s Heart, also encourages children to tap into their God-given abilities and talents! Please know, it’s easy for other people to shoot down your ideas, but don’t you ever do that. You can turn your ideas and dreams into inventions and possibilities when you believe in the power of prayer. In First Thessalonians 5:17 it says, “Pray continually!” Not that we should always be on our knees or calling upon God with bowed heads; but it show our God that we acknowledge him. Prayer is a benefit for us; it blesses our lives in every good or bad situation. Prayer moves God on our behalf and it moves us forward in every good work. I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it. Remember, believe that God hears you when you pray and always aspire to let your little light shine! May God bless you is my prayer! ?

An international whirlwind, Cow on the Ice—a Swedish idiom that warns of danger—begins in its country of origin, as Astrid Carlsson, founder and CEO of Nanovo Group, a pharmaceutical research company currently looking into a cure for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, is on the verge of falling victim to the disease herself, as well as to her cheating husband, Matthew Gilbert Espie. Matthew and his Parisian girlfriend are staying at his friend Kent’s estate in Canada—while Kent and his wife, Lucy, travel abroad for a year—and find themselves in the wrong place at a dangerously wrong time. Kent and Lucy have their own struggles, though in a much more luxurious locale, staying with Kent’s long-time friend, billionaire Mark Witherspoon, on his mega yacht, cruising the Mediterranean, and dealing with ghosts from their own pasts. Book 2 of The Awen Chronicles, Cow on the Ice: ko på isen, builds on the drama and intrigue of its predecessor, L'Orté Point, and is full of love and loss, violence and beauty, intrigue, and world travels described so vividly you’ll feel like you’re right there. Its danger speaks to the adventurer in us all, its beauty to the romantic, and its suspense to that frightened part of us that knows just how fragile life can be, no matter how well or how poorly it is lived.
