El objetivo mayor de este libro es aplicar a la Iberia vaciada las herramientas que nacen de la perspectiva del decrecimiento y de la teoría del colapso. Con ese propósito, en sus páginas se delimita el concepto, a menudo nebuloso, de esa Iberia, y al respecto se considera tanto el escenario español como el portugués. Se perfila también un conjunto de propuestas relativas a lo que hay que preservar, lo que hay que recuperar, lo que hay que introducir y lo que hay que rechazar en los espacios afectados, no sin prestar atención a debates importantes como los relativos a la población, a las mujeres, a la neorruralidad, a las biorregiones o a la naturaleza de un modelo económico y social alternativo. Por encima de todo, el libro quiere constituir un borrador que estimule un debate, el vinculado con el decrecimiento, que visiblemente falta.

This book provides an overview of the progress in Spanish tourism geography, particularly after the overlay of financial, pandemic and climate crisis, by the scrutiny of the different geographical areas and variables of analysis. It shows the diversity of geographical environments and their varied relationship with tourism, from the emptied inland regions to urban heritage in historic centres to coastal resorts. The book also introduces the analysis of the most important variables when studying the implications of Spanish tourist specialization. How are the beaches with intensive tourist use managed? What socio-spatial processes do leisure-rooted migrations involve? What are the labour conditions in the Spanish tourism industry? How does saving water boost tourism growth? The book offers answers through a methodological specificity of Spanish geography, which is highly oriented towards the analysis of public policies and even the proposal of new planning and methodology formulas that go beyond diagnostic studies. The domestic perspective, or that of insiders, of these scientists residing in Spain bestows them with special codes for conducting interpretations and analyses based on their everyday proximity to a territory characterised by its intense touristification. Las restricciones de carácter sanitario aplicadas durante la pandemia de la COVID-19 han afectado de pleno al turismo. Ante el riesgo de contagio por coronavirus, se impusieron medidas sanitarias para contener su expansión orientadas a reducir la movilidad y el contacto humano, lo cual altera el funcionamiento de la actividad turística. A su vez, distintas expresiones de turismo doméstico articulado en torno a la proximidad han ganado protagonismo, cuando tradicionalmente no habían gozado de visibilidad pública, ni de atención académica o de suficiente reconocimiento en las políticas públicas, aunque estaban ampliamente extendidas como práctica social. Las expresiones que puede adoptar un turismo articulado alrededor de los mercados de proximidad pueden ser muy amplias, sujetas al mismo tiempo a múltiples contradicciones y disputas. Más que una alternativa en sí mismos, los turismos de proximidad expresan un terreno de confrontación que se ve cruzado por múltiples intereses contradictorios. Lo que está en juego en esta controversia es la restricción o la ampliación de los derechos de amplias mayorías con relación a un turismo que puede ver reforzada su orientación más excluyente o bien expresarse en términos de mayor equidad, inclusión y sostenibilidad.
