Chip designing is a complex task that requires an in-depth understanding of VLSI design flow, skills to employ sophisticated design tools, and keeping pace with the bleeding-edge semiconductor technologies. This lucid textbook is focused on fulfilling these requirements for students, as well as a refresher for professionals in the industry. It helps the user develop a holistic view of the design flow through a well-sequenced set of chapters on logic synthesis, verification, physical design, and testing. Illustrations and pictorial representations have been used liberally to simplify the explanation. Additionally, each chapter has a set of activities that can be performed using freely available tools and provide hands-on experience with the design tools. Review questions and problems are given at the end of each chapter to revise the concepts. Recent trends and references are listed at the end of each chapter for further reading.

With the advance of semiconductors and ubiquitous computing, the use of system-on-a-chip (SoC) has become an essential technique to reduce product cost. With this progress and continuous reduction of feature sizes, and the development of very large-scale integration (VLSI) circuits, addressing the harder problems requires fundamental understanding

Sva The Power Of Assertions In Systemverilog written by Eduard Cerny and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-08-23 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book is a comprehensive guide to assertion-based verification of hardware designs using System Verilog Assertions (SVA). It enables readers to minimize the cost of verification by using assertion-based techniques in simulation testing, coverage collection and formal analysis. The book provides detailed descriptions of all the language features of SVA, accompanied by step-by-step examples of how to employ them to construct powerful and reusable sets of properties. The book also shows how SVA fits into the broader System Verilog language, demonstrating the ways that assertions can interact with other System Verilog components. The reader new to hardware verification will benefit from general material describing the nature of design models and behaviors, how they are exercised, and the different roles that assertions play. This second edition covers the features introduced by the recent IEEE 1800-2012. System Verilog standard, explaining in detail the new and enhanced assertion constructs. The book makes SVA usable and accessible for hardware designers, verification engineers, formal verification specialists and EDA tool developers. With numerous exercises, ranging in depth and difficulty, the book is also suitable as a text for students.

This book contains extended and revised versions of the best papers presented at the 28th IFIP WG 10.5/IEEE International Conference on Very Large Scale Integration, VLSI-SoC 2020, held in Salt Lake City, UT, USA, in October 2020.* The 16 full papers included in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from the 38 papers (out of 74 submissions) presented at the conference. The papers discuss the latest academic and industrial results and developments as well as future trends in the field of System-on-Chip (SoC) design, considering the challenges of nano-scale, state-of-the-art and emerging manufacturing technologies. In particular they address cutting-edge research fields like low-power design of RF, analog and mixed-signal circuits, EDA tools for the synthesis and verification of heterogenous SoCs, accelerators for cryptography and deep learning and on-chip Interconnection system, reliability and testing, and integration of 3D-ICs. *The conference was held virtually.

Digital Design And Computer Architecture Risc V Edition written by Sarah Harris and has been published by Morgan Kaufmann this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-12 with Computers categories.

The newest addition to the Harris and Harris family of Digital Design and Computer Architecture books, this RISC-V Edition covers the fundamentals of digital logic design and reinforces logic concepts through the design of a RISC-V microprocessor. Combining an engaging and humorous writing style with an updated and hands-on approach to digital design, this book takes the reader from the fundamentals of digital logic to the actual design of a processor. By the end of this book, readers will be able to build their own RISC-V microprocessor and will have a top-to-bottom understanding of how it works. Beginning with digital logic gates and progressing to the design of combinational and sequential circuits, this book uses these fundamental building blocks as the basis for designing a RISC-V processor. SystemVerilog and VHDL are integrated throughout the text in examples illustrating the methods and techniques for CAD-based circuit design. The companion website includes a chapter on I/O systems with practical examples that show how to use SparkFun's RED-V RedBoard to communicate with peripheral devices such as LCDs, Bluetooth radios, and motors. This book will be a valuable resource for students taking a course that combines digital logic and computer architecture or students taking a two-quarter sequence in digital logic and computer organization/architecture. - Covers the fundamentals of digital logic design and reinforces logic concepts through the design of a RISC-V microprocessor - Gives students a full understanding of the RISC-V instruction set architecture, enabling them to build a RISC-V processor and program the RISC-V processor in hardware simulation, software simulation, and in hardware - Includes both SystemVerilog and VHDL designs of fundamental building blocks as well as of single-cycle, multicycle, and pipelined versions of the RISC-V architecture - Features a companion website with a bonus chapter on I/O systems with practical examples that show how to use SparkFun's RED-V RedBoard to communicate with peripheral devices such as LCDs, Bluetooth radios, and motors - The companion website also includes appendices covering practical digital design issues and C programming as well as links to CAD tools, lecture slides, laboratory projects, and solutions to exercises - See the companion EdX MOOCs ENGR85A and ENGR85B with video lectures and interactive problems

Chip Multiprocessor Generator written by Ofer Shacham and has been published by Stanford University this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with categories.

Recent changes in technology scaling have made power dissipation today's major performance limiter. As a result, designers struggle to meet performance requirements under stringent power budgets. At the same time, the traditional solution to power efficiency, application specific designs, has become prohibitively expensive due to increasing nonrecurring engineering (NRE) costs. Most concerning are the development costs for design, validation, and software for new systems. In this thesis, we argue that one can harness ideas of reconfigurable designs to build a design framework that can generate semi-custom chips --- a Chip Generator. A domain specific chip generator codifies the designer knowledge and design trade-offs into a template that can be used to create many different chips. Like reconfigurable designs, these systems fix the top level system architecture, amortizing software and validation and design costs, and enabling a rich system simulation environment for application developers. Meanwhile, below the top level, the developer can "program" the individual inner components of the architecture. Unlike reconfigurable chips, a generator "compiles" the program to create a customized chip. This compilation process occurs at elaboration time --- long before silicon is fabricated. The result is a framework that enables more customization of the generated chip at the architectural level, because additional components and logic can be added if the customization process requires it. At the same time this framework does not introduce inefficiency at the circuit level because unneeded circuit overheads are not taped out. Using Chip Generators, we argue, will enable design houses to design a wide family of chips using a cost structure similar to that of designing a single chip --- potentially saving tens of millions of dollars --- while enabling per-application customization and optimization.

Logic Design written by Jaden Mclean & Carmen Hurley and has been published by Scientific e-Resources this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-07 with categories.

The book attempts to achieve a balance between theory and application. For this reason, the book does not over-emphasize the mathematics of switching theory; however it does present the theory which is necessary for understanding the fundamental concepts of logic design. Written in a student-friendly style, the book provides an in-depth knowledge of logic design. Striking a balance between theory and practice, it covers topics ranging from number systems, binary codes, logic gates and Boolean algebra, design of combinational logic circuits, synchronous and asynchronous sequential circuits, etc. The main emphasis of this book is to highlight the theoretical concepts and systematic synthesis techniques that can be applied to the design of practical digital systems. This comprehensive book is written for the graduate students of electronics and communication engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, instrumentation engineering, telecommunication engineering, computer science and engineering, and information technology.
