City Landscape written by A. B. Grove and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-22 with Architecture categories.

City Landscape emerged from the City Landscape Conference held in Bath in 1981. The conference formed a contribution to the Council of Europe's campaign for Urban Renaissance and was organized in association with The Civic Trust, The Landscape Institute, The Royal Town Planning Institute, and The Society of Industrial Artists and Designers. The book is organized into four parts. Part One reviews the changes in urban landscape from early settlements to the establishment of more recent design philosophies, with emphasis on the need to develop the new opportunities now available to us. Part Two, still with strong inference to human aspects, takes the discussion into the fields of aesthetics, nature in the urban environment, and a creative approach to conservation and the establishment of urban woodlands. Part Three is an expression of confidence in modern design in the context of the urban environment, this extending into consideration of imaginative city environments by night. Part Four deals with education, participation, and management in the implementation of City Landscapes. It is hoped that those concerned with the creation and maintenance of open spaces in cities and towns will be inspired by this book in their efforts to achieve high standards of quality in their contribution to the urban environment.

Providing clear, basic technical background (accessible to non-engineers), the book focuses especially on planning and policy concerns. It covers the fundamentals of lighting technology; benefits, costs, and possible adverse impacts of lighting enhancements; traditional and innovative approaches; planning and policy documents and practices; aesthetics and placemaking; and technology trends in lighting design. This book is aimed primarily at practicing transportation planners and engineers, generalist urban planners, safety advocates and researchers, and university students. However, lighting designers and other professionals will also find it useful. It considers how lighting can be coordinated with other potential improvements to enhance the pedestrian environment for better walkability.

Building Physics Lighting written by W. R. Stevens and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-22 with Architecture categories.

Building Physics: Lighting, Seeing in the Artificial Environment deals with basic principles of lighting as used in architecture, in building maintenance, and in an artificial environment. The book starts with the process of how humans see; the interaction of the eye and mind; and the effects of fatigue, visual disorders, and age. The phenomena of light are then discussed — how light behaves and how it is measured. Light and light waves beyond the visible spectrum are explained scientifically as being part of the electromagnetic spectrum within the 400 to 760 nm ranges. The different light sources are identified as daylight and artificial lights, with many types of lamps under the latter. As regards artificial lighting, a lighting fitting has two functions: redistributes luminescence properly and provides a suitable receptacle for the lamp. The requirements when using artificial or natural light in an exterior or interior setting are enumerated. The book also explains the specifications of the amount of light and how this amount is calculated. Interior lighting, both from artificial and natural sources, is comprehensively discussed, including issues such as discomfort glare, reflected glare, design and aesthetics, lighting requirements in different kinds of buildings, and flammability properties. The text also tackles exterior lighting including decorative floodlights, lighting for tunnels and underpasses, and special problem areas. Architects, engineers, electricians, interior designers, lighting technicians, environmentalists, and readers with interest in home decor will find this book useful.
