This book examines the popular, yet puzzling, Chinese saying Nande hutu 难得糊涂 to uncover how the ancient Chinese wisdom of not knowing is constructed, interpreted, practiced and valued in contemporary society. Originating in the calligraphy of Qing-dynasty scholar Zheng Banqiao, Nande hutu translates literally as: “hard to attain muddle-headedness”. Mieke Matthyssen traces the historical development of this saying and related philosophies to reveal a culturally conditioned, multi-layered inclination to different forms of not knowing. In contemporary society, she argues, this inclination forms part of a living art: in some respects, a passive, evasive strategy for self-preservation; in other respects, a strategy for coping with intrapersonal, interpersonal and social complexities. Drawing on an extensive range of primary sources and original research, the analysis skillfully combines philosophical and socio-historical analysis with theory from Chinese philosophy, philosophical psychology and the relatively new field of indigenous psychology, to provide an in-depth understanding of how Nande hutu has shaped, and continues to shape, the Chinese psyche and behaviour. This book will appeal to all readers looking for fresh insights into Chinese culture, and in particular to students and scholars of Chinese and Asian studies, cultural and social anthropology, and philosophical and indigenous psychology.

My husband is loving, caring, strong, brave, loyal, and devoted to what he believes in. I admire him more than anybody because he inspires me so much. He brings out the best in me and he makes me better. If I cant do it I know he can and will, and if he cant he wont stop trying. My husband has been through so much in just twenty seven years, things most people will never have to experience, he has been through and more. Poverty, hunger, loss of loved ones at a very young age, and yet he is still so happy. Optimism is his middle name, the glass is always half full in his eyes. He forgives so easily so he does not carry around the burden of anger like others do. The second to youngest out of eleven kids, he never got the attention he deserved but he didnt let that make him feel less than. I admire my husband because what most men cant do he does with ease. Like loving me and treating me like a queen as he does the other women in his life. He has such a great respect for us it deserves admiration. Religion Is a thing very near and dear to us my husbands religious devotion is something to be reckoned with. His belief system is so strong and unshakeable he makes it easy for me to follow in his footsteps. Most people in and out of my religion have it all wrong, watching others practice my religion you might hate it, but watching my husband you would fall in love. When the going gets tough my husband is there, for me and anyone who needs him. Almost completely selfless you cant help but to love him. A shoulder to cry on, and ear to listen, and an embrace waiting for you if you need it, he is the one to go to in any given situation. If you dont want to be judged or looked down on. He can be counted on every single time. Marrying him, I would definitely have to say was the best decision I have made in my twenty Years on this earth. I dont how I got this far without him. Im just happy Ill never have to go another day without him inshaallah(if god wills). Never afraid to admit when he is wrong makes it easy for you to let down your guard with him. I admire my husband because he is everything I stated and more, and respect is given where respect is due. Thats what my ex-wife wrote about me shortly before we went our separate ways that was the nicest thing some-one has ever said about me and I didnt want to explain myself because I would have been a lot more humble This book is dedicated to my ex-wife who help me become the man I am today

Me myself it sound like the Kane and Abel concept, where that one of the son was able to progress easy and the father understood what he was trying to do, and the other son raise a lot of Kane, stay angry because they did not have the patience to take their time to do anything right, one mind was in peace with their self for being able to understand the things that they are doing, so we can call that one a understanding and respectful bliss, now the other mind that was angry all the time for not having patience took the weaker road, it was more easier for him to create trouble and scheme than to take his time and do it right, and that became his bliss to make his self comfortable with himself being wrong. Two types of bliss are with two different lifestyles that approach life in a way that was more understandable for them both. I will be talking about a lot of things that I have seen or heard as well as experience during my life time, and you will see the thing that I am revealing which have been done in the past that have program some of us to function the same way in the future, which we never grow out of maybe because we was not taught how to change from one level to another level. You will see people that hold a life time grudge for something that happen when they was a young person and talk about it like it happen yesterday. But now at fifty years old and over they still talk about wanting revenge over something that was so small that they should had paid no mind to it and went on with their life. Some of these grudges are things that are a part of growing up, the things that one experience in their life from making mistakes by picking the wrong people to hang with. Then you will have some people blame their parents for not being able to have the same benefits that the other kids had when they was young, and at fifty years old and over they still bring it up to their parents like it was yesterday for not taking care of them more better.
