Z recenzji prof. dr hab. Grażyny Tomaszewskiej „Równouprawniona” lektura tekstów literackich i ikonicznych, rozumiana w wymiarze komplementarnego czytania, umiejętności interpretowania, tekstu powinna otwierać współczesnemu młodemu odbiorcy świata kultury, literatury i sztuki nowe horyzonty na poszukiwanie nowego sensu, uruchamiać mechanizmy nowego widzenia i nowej wrażliwości na odbiór sztuk. Książka skupia zatem uwagę na relacjach tekst ikoniczny–tekst literacki, lub raczej w szerszym rozumieniu tekst werbalny–tekst wizualny, by uświadomić, iż temat, problem, myśl, emocję, wrażenie można zapisać i wyrazić w różnych językach sztuki, a współczesna skłonność do mieszania języków, czynienie odstępstw od niegdyś panujących reguł, zmusza także do redefinicji pojęć: interpretacja–sens–znaczenie. Z Wprowadzenia prof. dr hab. Anny Pilch

Asymmetry written by Adam Zagajewski and has been published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-11-20 with Poetry categories.

A stunning new collection from Poland’s leading poet Give me back my childhood, republic of loquacious sparrows, measureless thickets of nettles and the timid wood owl's nightly sobs. One of the most vibrant voices of our time, Adam Zagajewski is a modern master of the poetic form. In Asymmetry, his first collection of poems in five years, he revisits the themes that have long concerned him: the enduring imprint of history, the beauty of nature, the place of the exile. Though as sanguine as ever, Zagajewski often turns to elegy in this deeply powerful collection, remembering loved ones he’s lost: a hairdresser, the philosopher Krzystzof Michalski, and, most poignantly, his parents. A moving reflection on family, the sublimity of everyday life, death, and happiness, Asymmetry is a magnificent distillation of an astounding poetic voice.

It is often assumed that picturebooks are for very young readers because of their emphasis on the illustrations and their scarcity of text; however, there are increasing numbers of picturebooks where the age of the implied reader is questionable. These are picturebooks whose controversial subject matter and unconventional, often unsettling style of illustration challenge the reader, pushing them to question and probe deeper to understand what the book is about. In addition to the book challenging the reader, the reader often challenges the book in an attempt to understand what is being said. These increasingly popular picturebooks work on many different levels; they are truly polysemic and worthy of in-depth analysis. They push the reader to ask questions and in many instances are intrinsically philosophical, often dealing with fundamental life issues. Challenging and Controversial Picturebooks examines these unconventional, non-conformist picturebooks, considering what they are, their audience and their purpose. It also considers: Children’s and adults’ thoughts on these kinds of picturebooks. How challenging and unsettling wordless picturebooks can play with the mind and promote philosophical thought. What creates non-conformity and strangeness ... is it the illustrations and their style, the subject matter or a combination of both? Why certain countries create, promote and accept these picturebooks more than others. Why certain picturebooks are censored and what factors are in play when these decisions are made. The role of publishers in translating and publishing these picturebooks. Children’s creative and critical responses to strange, unsettling and often disturbing visual texts. This inspiring and thought-provoking volume explores the work of a number of highly respected, international picturebook experts and includes an exclusive interview with the legendary Klaus Flugge, Managing Director of Andersen Press, one of the few remaining independent children’s book publishers in England. It is an indispensable reference for all interested in or working with picturebooks, including researchers, students in higher and teacher education, English advisors/inspectors, literacy consultants and classroom teachers.

Transcending Boundaries written by Sandra L. Beckett and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-11 with Literary Criticism categories.

Transcending Boundaries: Writing for a Dual Audience of Children and Adults is a collection of essays on twentieth-century authors who cross the borders between adult and children's literature and appeal to both audiences. This collection of fourteen essays by scholars from eight countries constitutes the first book devoted to the art of crosswriting the child and adult in twentieth-century international literature. Sandra Beckett explores the multifaceted nature of crossover literature and the diverse ways in which writers cross the borders to address a dual readership of children and adults. It considers classics such as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Pinocchio, with particular emphasis on post-World War II literature. The essays in Transcending Boundaries clearly suggest that crossover literature is a major, widespread trend that appears to be sharply on the rise.

Over the past 15 years, there has been a pronounced trend toward a particular type of picturebook that many would label "postmodern." Postmodern picturebooks have stretched our conventional notion of what constitutes a picturebook, as well as what it means to be an engaged reader of these texts. The international researchers and scholars included in this compelling collection of work critically examine and discuss postmodern picturebooks, and reflect upon their unique contributions to both the field of children’s literature and to the development of new literacies for child, adolescent, and adult readers.

Presents a comprehensive, theoretically grounded model of children’s understanding of picture storybooks—the first to focus specifically on young children. Relevant to contemporary young children from a wide variety of ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds, this dynamic volume includes a wealth of examples of children’s responses to literature and how teachers scaffold their interpretation of stories. “The highest recommendation I can make is that I learned so much. . . . You will too!” —From the Foreword by P. David Pearson, University of California, Berkeley “The single most important book on this topic since Applebee’s The Child’s Concept of Story . . . it is also a pleasure to read.” —Lee Galda, University of Minnesota “Sipe provides a comprehensive theory of literary understanding specific to contemporary young children’s interactions with picture books. Storytime is grounded in well-documented research, an in-depth knowledge of literary theory, and enlivened by insightful commentary.” —Glenna Sloan, Professor Emerita, Queens College of the City University of New York “As a working illustrator who spends most days drawing or painting or dreaming about children's picturebooks, I sometimes wonder, ‘Is there really any point to all of this?’ In this book, Larry Sipe shows me clearly, wittily, and thoroughly that there is.” —Chris Raschka, Caldecott Medal–winning children's book author and illustrator “Those of us who work with children, picturebooks, and teachers could have no more insightful guide to their interactions than Larry Sipe himself.” —Nancy L. Roser, University of Texas, Austin

Slow Reading In A Hurried Age written by David Mikics and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-08 with Literary Criticism categories.

Wrapped in the glow of the computer or phone screen, we cruise websites; we skim and skip. We glance for a brief moment at whatever catches our eye and then move on. Slow Reading in a Hurried Age reminds us of another mode of reading--the kind that requires our full attention and that has as its goal not the mere gathering of information but the deeper understanding that only good books can offer. Slow Reading in a Hurried Age is a practical guide for anyone who yearns for a more meaningful and satisfying reading experience, and who wants to sharpen reading skills and improve concentration. David Mikics, a noted literary scholar, demonstrates exactly how the tried-and-true methods of slow reading can provide a more immersive, fulfilling experience. He begins with fourteen preliminary rules for slow reading and shows us how to apply them. The rules are followed by excursions into key genres, including short stories, novels, poems, plays, and essays. Reading, Mikics says, should not be drudgery, and not mere escape either, but a way to live life at a higher pitch. A good book is a pathway to finding ourselves, by getting lost in the words and works of others.
