Al suo rientro a Sassuolo, il destino di Diego incrocia quello di Valentina: insieme vivono gli anni più duri della Seconda guerra mondiale e i tragici eventi dell’8 settembre 1943, che portano Diego a imbracciare ancora una volta il fucile per unirsi alla lotta partigiana sulle montagne dell’Appennino.
