“Il conte di La Ghirara“ è un libro nel quale Francesco Mariano Marchiò, con scorrevole prosa, racconta una sintesi quanto mai efficace della vita di un suo caro amico, di un qualcosa che non esiste più come quel sistema di vita immutato per secoli in cui tutto si svolgeva secondo un razionale uso delle risorse e del tempo. Fa una fotografia puntuale, precisa nei particolari che pare abbia secoli e invece risale solo ad alcune decine di anni fa, un racconto simpatico di una vita vissuta tra Genova e provincia e l’appennino tosco emiliano, nel quale assurgono a rango di personaggi persone comuni come quel tale che assomigliava a Badoglio, a quella che faceva la polenta con la farina di castagne, ad un parroco taccagno con i chierichetti. Accanto alla vita spicciola vi è la narrazione di fatti importanti come la presenza delle truppe tedesche, la lotta partigiana, la lotta quotidiana per la vita. Nel raccontare gli avvenimenti Marchiò esprime l’affetto sincero e profondo per i luoghi della sua giovinezza, fa trasparire inequivocabilmente la consapevole e coerente opinione su fatti storici, su debolezze e soprattutto su ipocrisie e trasformismi sia umani, sia della società, ma lo fa con rispetto per le diverse opinioni e sempre con l’apertura al confronto senza la pretesa di possedere la verità assoluta e di voler impartire insegnamenti. “Il conte di La Ghirara“ è la sintesi, anche ironica, di una vita vissuta imparando ad apprezzare le piccole cose ed a saper trarre gioia dalla natura nelle sue varie espressioni, a vivere nel rispetto dei valori sui quali è basata la nostra cultura, a saper accettare gli avvenimenti e le varie epoche come il normale ed ineludibile passaggio del tempo. Su questi valori si chiude il libro di Marchiò con l’invito a saper gioire delle cose che ci sono state date, alle quali spesso non prestiamo attenzione per poi pentircene quando ormai è troppo tardi.
