The Holocaust in Italian Culture, 1944–2010 is the first major study of how postwar Italy confronted, or failed to confront, the Holocaust. Fascist Italy was the model for Nazi Germany, and Mussolini was Hitler's prime ally in the Second World War. But Italy also became a theater of war and a victim of Nazi persecution after 1943, as resistance, collaboration, and civil war raged. Many thousands of Italians—Jews and others—were deported to concentration camps throughout Europe. After the war, Italian culture produced a vast array of stories, images, and debate through which it came to terms with the Holocaust's difficult legacy. Gordon probes a rich range of cultural material as he paints a picture of this shared encounter with the darkest moment of twentieth-century history. His book explores aspects of Italian national identity and memory, offering a new model for analyzing the interactions between national and international images of the Holocaust.

Tutti viviamo nel ricordo, non dimentichi di chi verrà: non dimentico chi verrà e il giorno in cui avremo perduto fiducia negli uomini sarà un giorno sbagliato. Ricordiamo e saremo ricordati… saliamo fino alla cima di una grande montagna e vediamo simultaneamente le cime del passato e quelle del futuro. Vincenzo Crosio è nato a Napoli il 2 febbraio1950. È scrittore, poeta, saggista. È docente relatore all’Istituto per gli studi storici e filosofici di Napoli, è stato direttore del seminario teologico del Monastero Zen di Salsomaggiore, scrive su Scienze e ricerche, fa parte dell’editorial board e della direzione editoriale di tale rivista.

La razzia degli ebrei di Roma, che hanno suscitato interesse ed emozioni nei visitatori, la Gipsoteca del Vittoriano inaugura il 27 gennaio una grande esposizione che racconta la liberazione dei campi nazisti a settant’anni dalla loro chiusura. La narrazione abbraccia un arco temporale di un anno - dal luglio 1944 al maggio 1945 – e racconta le specificità, gli antefatti e i risvolti delle liberazioni dei luoghi di concentramento e sterminio istituiti dai nazisti in tutta l’Europa occupata. Ha come focus lo sguardo sui campi che abbiano visto la presenza di deportati ebrei italiani, senza trascurare le vicende relative alla deportazione “politica” ad opera del sistema di oppressione nazifascista. L’autrice ci dona un saggio accurato e appassionato, frutto di ricerche, studi, viaggi e riflessioni, che mette in luce aspetti poco noti del nazifascismo, come la fascinazione per l’esoterismo in Germania o il culto di Roma e la rivisitazione della storia in Italia. Un vero viaggio nel tempo e nei luoghi della guerra. L’opera è divisa in due parti. Nella prima dedicata ad Hitler scopriamo tra le altre cose, la sua ossessione per la ricerca delle reliquie: il Santo Graal, L’Arca dell’Alleanza e la Lancia di Longino. Nella seconda seguiamo Mussolini impegnato a diventare “l’uomo della provvidenza”, cultore delle tradizioni e dei sacri valori della famiglia. In appendice completano il volume molti documenti originali. Giuseppina Mellace, nata a Roma nel 1957, è autrice di pièce teatrali, saggi, racconti e romanzi con i quali ha vinto numerosi premi. Dal 2014 pubblica con la Newton Compton di Roma libri di saggistica storica tra cui Una grande tragedia dimenticata, sull’eccidio delle Foibe, con il quale ha vinto tre primi premi a Giardini di Naxos, Rovigo e Matera. Il libro è stato presentato anche in Rai durante la trasmissione “Uno mattina Libri”. Sempre nella stessa sezione, l’autrice ha poi pubblicato Delitti e Stragi dell’Italia fascista e L’Oro del Duce, ricevendo anche con questi testi numerosi riconoscimenti. Nel 2019 è uscito I Dimenticati di Mussolini, incentrato sulla vicenda degli IMI con il quale ha già vinto il primo premio “Il Convivio” ed è stato presentato anch’esso in Rai. Ha pubblicato con l’Università Cusano nel 2020 il romanzo storico IL QUADRO DI NORMA, con il quale ha già avuto tre primi premi.
