Un’infanzia quella di Luca De Maria dominata dalla forte personalità di una madre troppo presa per il suo aspetto fisico e dall’avere il meglio dalla vita, e da un padre che adora, un docente di filosofia, affetto da demenza senile con istinti suicidi. Nonostante tutto, il suo editore e amico, crede ancora in lui e lo sprona continuamente cercando di farlo uscire da un’ abulia che lo sta riducendo ad una specie di borderline. Luca scoprirà una passione che non conosce ragione, se non quella di bruciare. Con l’aiuto degli amici più cari, riuscirà tuttavia a uscirne fuori e a rimettersi a scrivere. Il suo libro è addirittura tra i finalisti del premio Strega, ma qualche minuto prima che la giuria si riunisca per annunciare il vincitore, accade qualcosa… Una storia tragicamente divertente, descritta con maestria, con un finale a sorpresa che spiazza.

A long, infinite wait, which culminates in an outburst of irrepressible happiness. The time has come. The backpack is ready. Let's go. From 2006 to 2010 I was three times a pilgrim to Santiago de Compostela, in the north of Spain. The first along the Camino Francés, the best known and most popular, almost nine hundred kilometers, from the Pyrenees to the ocean, thirty-six extraordinary, unforgettable days. The second starting from Seville and traveling along the Via de la Plata, a thousand kilometers of desert solitude and silence, a month and a half of exhausting trek. The last one from Oviedo, the capital of Asturias, following in the noble footsteps of King Alfonso II the Chaste through the oldest itinerary, dating back to the early ninth century, and named for this Primitivo. Along the way I tried to keep track of the encounters, the landscapes, the sensations I was experiencing. To be able to remember and relive them.
